The outer plastic jacket on my PT 210 angle-head die grinder that I bought in the mid 1990/s has cracked in multiple places, probably from setting unused in my tool box for the last 7-8 years.

I was so upset, and despondent, that I called Snap on customer service, and obtained a replacement jacket for the horrendous sum of FIVE Dollars and 45 cents, shipping included.

Like their FAR series air ratchets, which go back even further, how many companies would even bother carrying parts, or have stayed with the same design/part number, for tools this ancient?

I guess that I could have overcome my aversion to Harbor Freight, and bought one one of their 'premium' quality die grinders for 99 cents or whatever, BUT I WILL NOT COMPROMISE EITHER MY, OR MY TOOLS' PRINCIPLES.

Had to snicker over this. I called Curtis about parts for an early 1950ish compressor, sorta as a joke. Not only did they send me an IPB that pretty well covered it, but a parts list for what they had in stock for and what they could get. Got to hand it to any company that can and will provide any support for their products, even 65 years out of production.

I called Milwaukee Morgan looking for jaw inserts for my Chicago Morgan vise and they mailed them right out. SO warranty slides on my 1963 kra 300.

I called Wilton for a part for my '84 1750 bullet vise and they sent it to me for free.
I needed some decals for my Milwaukee 2-ton floor jack and Milwaukee sent them for free. It pays to deal with good, American companies.

:) I know the feeling. My father has an Atlas drill press from I believe the 40's (no later than the 50's) that the spline collar broke on. It did take a few calls and transfers, because the company had been bought and sold a few times, but eventually a Clausing rep was able to find the parts diagram AND sell them the correct part for a reasonable price.

As for my own air grinders, they're mostly HF. If the plastic grip starts to crack, I'll cut another piece from a scrap inner tube.

Lmao funny I love snap on but not so much Matco I called them about my 1/2 19.2v impact needing a charger come to find out was just a fuse but they have discontinued the model and won't cant rebuild it and only offer batteries for 150 bucks and SOL on a charger. I don't understand this because it's not that old compared to my ct561 or whatever snap on screw gun which they cover all parts still and rebuild for a cost. I wish I never even bought my matco impact but was cheap only $50 with 2 batteries which had to rebuild one which did myself for 10 bucks. It is only the model they carried right before the lithium line. I'm just gonna sell it before it craps out to someone else as it works perfectly now and get a green snap on probably nicad for price.

Snap-On controls the manufacturing of their air tools, Matco outsources and is at the mercy of the supplier. I'd never touch a Matco cordless tool due to how fast they obsolete them. Seems every 2 years they refresh the entire line, although I will say I believe the lithium batteries have remained backwards compatible for awhile now.

That said list price on cordless stuff from all the truck brands is disgusting.

Except that Milwaukee is owned by Chinese conglomerate

I have a 90's era PTR-700 air ratchet and the handle jacket/cover cracked and fell apart in the same manner as the OP. I tried to purchase a replacement but S/O says it's NLA. I was advised to just wrap it with duct tape and move on...:willy_nil.

+1 for Warn. Those guys rock. My winch is older than the 1979 Jeep it sits on and is awesome.
