The anvil needs to be flat or satin black on the bottom but polished at the top. You also need to grind a curve in the front and back ends. Have fun!!

The vise doesn't have to match the anvil's color but they should compliment each other.

I baked an oil finish onto my RR Track "Anvil", like you'd do to a cast iron frying pan. It's been pretty durable and kept the rust away for a couple of years. I'd do the same my real anvil but it's too big to fit in my shop oven.

I also have the matching non-swivel version of this RockIsland, but it hasn't been resto'd yet. Horns on both anvils were buzzed with a roloc scotchbrite disc.
