I have a 7.5hp Champion air compressor with a horizontal tank that I am thinking of putting in a dog house behind my new shop. In the old shop it was in a loft and when running made more noise than I really wanted in the shop.

I'm looking for ideas for a doghouse I can put it in behind the new shop. I'm in Central NY, so get snow in the winter and have freezing weather from November - March. I'd like the dog house to keep the compressor snow free and also allow for ready access for filter and oil changes or removal of the compressor. I will probably pour a slab behind the shop for the air compressor, phase converter and mini-splits.

Please share pictures and ideas for what worked well and construction tips for the doghouse.

My shop is two story with an interior staircase. I walled in the area under the staircase, and it always just seemed to collect junk. Then I got tired of listening to the air compressor out in the main downstairs room and had the brilliant idea of putting the air compressor in the "closet" under the stairs.

I just close the door when I'm operating the compressor. Much quieter.

I put mine in the shed out back and buried an airline in conduit ~100ft to the garage.

It feeds a 25 or 30 gallon tank in the garage.

Watch the heat output of the compressor. I use a 5 hp, 20 cfm unit that I have in a bumpout room that is 8x20 feet. I installed a through the wall 6” exhaust fan on a thermostat to keep the heat below 90f in the room when I am running the bead blaster unit. You want that compressor to be able to cool itself properly. The fan is at the upper right of the blue cabinet.
