Show me your built in dog door.

I have an attached, unfinshed, 2 car garage that I may want to put a dog door in. My large German Shepard used my worn out "store bought" door for years.

Any ideas on a nice setup?

Do some searching as there have been some extensive prior threads on dog doors. One I remember was super secure with aluminum frame and slide down gullitine door !!

I have one on my house. It's store bought and my friend has gone through it. After this picture I bought a second one and put it on the outside so it has two flaps.

Usually thieves won't attempt to go through them because odds are they will meet up with a um, dog.

One of my friends has the motorized version with a transmitter on the dog's collar. If the dog is within 2', the door opens! They were worried about coyotes...,

i don't know of a door big enough for our dogs.newman is the one seen heading out he's about 200lbs english mastiff roughly 32" at the shoulder.i made mine from a mud flap 30"high 17" wide.built a 4 foot square dog house outside of it that is insulated with a door going out at 90 degree angle to the house door the french door is open all day everyday when we work.we close it when home in the winter there is a wood stove about 6 feet away keeps the house warm thru winter.very cheap and big enough for a mastiff and our freat dane.the dog heading out is mastiff shepard mix shes only 95 lbs.i don't worry about security with 4 dogs totalling 500 lbs.the pic is thru there fence showing the plastic over the dog house on my deck

I added a Hale Pet Door in my house recently. EXTREMELY happy with the fit and quality and took about two hours to install. They have different sizes depending on the type of dog you own. It is a double flap, with a locking door from the inside. Below are some pics of the door. Their website is halepetdoor.com....

Friend of mine's wife wanted a pet door because she was getting tired of letting the cat out. So he put one in the back door, well the cat went on a hunting trip and brought it's catch back to mommy and laid it in the bed with her. It was about 1/2 dead, but was 3' long, nice little copperhead snake. He replaced the door that night.

Thanks for all the ideas...I kind of like the electric but may not want to get that fancy.. a double door or tunnel will probably be my thing.

ive got the mammoth sized one for our newfie and English mastiff....hell they now even have their own party porch on the other side of the dog door.
