So I haven't logged in for a while, and with good reason. Promotion at work took us from Oregon to Florida, so I find myself dealing with two realities:

1. Downsizing from a 3 car garage to a 2 garage is no fun. Or in the words of my old Master Sergeant- "About as much fun as getting naked and running backwards through a corn field." :D

2. Not all 2 car garages are created equal. (This garage has less than 18 inches bewteen the side walls and the garage door opening)

So now I'm having to figure out how to cram 40 pounds of "stuff" into a 20 pound box?:headscrat

If you have storage solutions you've developed, I'm all ears!

I'm working with a blank slate here . . .

Go! :3gears:

Hanging shelfs above the garage door for 'longer term' storage really helps my 2 car out alot. I just need to take out a 3 step ladder to access it... not a big deal. Take advantage of high shelving wherever you can in all reality.

Is a small shed an option? Even just getting some things out of the space like lawn mowers, gardening tools etc can help free up much needed space when it's tight. Even an outdoor bench seat with inbuilt seating will allow you to shift some stuff out of the garage.

Is your goal to park a car or cars in the garage? Build out a carpentry shop? Warehouse lawnmowers and Christmas decorations?

Will the ceiling structure support multiple gear lofts?

Inquiring minds and all...

New casa came with a decent size shed, that I used for my zero turn mower and my other odds and ends like gas powered equipment and X-Mas stuff.

I'd like to have a small space carved out to tinker. My Willys is almost done, just some wiring and small stuff left to do. So just having a garage for my Willys and my wife's car would be great.

I know I have to build another garage at some point, most of my neighbors have or plan to; that way I go nuts on that one. But in the meantime, having smart storage solutions so I can maximize the little space I currently have would be great.

If you can give a few more parameters, more suggestions might be available.

Building your own cabinets/shelves/bench can yield great space savings as you can go very custom without a ton of investment. Also hit the used market (CL, FBM, etc.) for bargain storage cabinets/lockers.

Have a plan to use every inch of space available with different storage components, think 'behind,' 'under,' 'in' and 'above.' Then prioritize those components based on feasibility and move ahead with the ones that float your boat.

So much inspiration here in GJ; there are a bunch of great builds to check out.

Good luck!
