Mrs Outlander, or was it Santa, gave me a Panavise for Christmas and I have yet to secure it to a bench. I have placed it in a couple of spots but can't make up my mind. May end up with a suction cup or a temporary mount.

I really wanted it for where I do electronics type work.

So, please show me you Panavises!

Nothing special, I don't have mine secured to the bench, I only use it for small electronics work so I just move it around as needed, I have the older green one at work.

I'd show you mine...but it's still in the box I bought it in.

You bastards here talked me into buying one a few years ago 'cuz it was such a good deal. Haven't had a use for it yet and probably never will. Screw all of you.:lol_hitti

I used mine last month for the first time to drill something. I had it since the 5$ Radio Shack closeout.

At this time, I will remain strong, not look up vintage green panavise, not look up bases, and not otherwise be suckered into buying accessories. Until later.

Speaking of vintage green... Here's my 70's era Panavise Model 381 with the suction cup mount and nylon jaws. It belonged to my Grandpop. I like the portability and the vacuum base still holds strong after 40+ years.

I've also got the vise head and the large PCB head, but the junior head sees the most use.

Bought it from the family of a guy who painted all his tools red.

I attached mine to an 6"x6"x3/4" piece of Red Oak. Don't use it often. It was buried in a shed full of junk that I inherited 30 years ago when I bought my house.

I've had a suction base version for probably 40 years and like it lot but the suction has never really worked as well as I think it should. Is there any way to make it hold better or am I better off changing out to a clamp style base?

Love mine, mounted on panavise surface plate, great for small projects.

I have two, both with the wide opening (NOT self centering) jaws, though they're an old style that uses a locking lever, rather than a knob.

One sits on a cast iron base it came with. The other is bolted to a T shaped piece of wood that I lock in my wood vise when I want it bench mounted.

Ha Ha. I have two in the box from the same time frame. Radio Shack closeouts.

I mentioned this in another thread...

After I got it home, I looked online into replacing the plywood. Either of the two PanaVise bases are thirty dollars. I think I will live with the plywood or drill and tap a small piece of steel.

I figure mine is pretty old. I am guessing 70’s or 80’s. They have changed a lot of the details since then.

Nice vintage thread revival! I'll look for the other thread.

Outlander, what did you end up doing for a base for the one your wife bought you?

So far it sits on my bench/table un attached. I have not had to use it for mire than holding things so far, so I haven't needed to secure it. I'll probably clamp it if I do since it is a multi-purpose bench/table in my office.

I have had a few of them but have rarely used them except sometimes with the wide rubber jaws to hold parts of clocks that I repair.

Mine sits eye level in the top of a machinist chest/cab next to a BP mill with a 0-1" mic stuck in it.... tilted for easy reading.

I have a couple, one just sits free, the other is mounted to an old heat sink for some heft to hold it in place.
The one I have at work also sits free as you move it where you need to use it.

I got a set of flexible clips to go with my panavise. Got it from hobby creek dot com.

Comes in real "handy" when doing electronics work. I used to have the traditional third hand tool, but it was more frustrating than useful. This attachment wasn't cheap, but is awesome so far.

Bought mine at RS clearance 5-6 years ago, I take a couple of small 1" c-clamps to hold mine down to my workbench when I need to secure it. Otherwise I just move it around as needed when soldering or performing other small tasks that do not require having it bolted down.

I keep finding them at estate sales...

I just bought the QuadHands stand to the one that was previously just screwed to a piece of plywood. I have not used it yet, so I do not know how much I will like it.

I tried the suction cup mount and it was terrible. Bought the standard desk stand mount and then filled the bottom with lead shot & epoxy to add even more weight! love it
