Looking for a good one. Used to have the ubiquitous Stanley 2qt metal thermos, in hammered green paint of course, but it walked off a few years ago. I'm not a huge coffee drinker so I never replaced it. But recently my 9yo daughter (ok, me too) developed an affinity for hot cocoa, so I'm in need of one again.

Looking on eBay for a vintage model in good shape and I've found a few worth bidding on, but figured I'd see what everyone else is carrying.

I drink a good bit of coffee,I also worked out on boats a number of years, stainless stanley (glass lined i think) always took abuse and kept it warm for me, I will say the coffee did taste like **** after 30m or so to me, imho it was too hot right off the bat and gave it a burned taste.

I got a Zojirushi carafe as a gift and i do like it. May be my memory but it seems to keep it hot as long if not longer than the standard stanley thermos, and to me the coffee is better tasting (even though not ideal) but it doesn't seem to have a burnt taste I always tasted with the stanely. Given my choice for have to drink coffee warm after 4-6 hours i'll pick the zorjurushi hands down due to that.

Good reviews on amazon on all their carafes and thermos's, made in japan though. But worth reading the reviews there for a 2nd choice. iirc they're a bit more money.

An old Stanley with the green hammertone paint, just like the one that walked off on you.

Paint markers work wonders for preventing them from growing legs on the job.

My generic Chinese diamond plate "garage" thermos fell apart recently. I happened to look at a mug while killing time at a Turkey Hill convenience store and saw that it was made in the USA by Thermoserv. I told my wife who ordered a mug online for my birthday. I didn't mention it on my birthday, but I checked the bottom. Made in China.

Stanley still carries the 2 quart version but it looks like prices are around $50 or so. But they are probably a "Made in China" product. Amazon has them.

I have a Thermos dark blue one that is great. Dropped it off my toolbox idk how many times and its dinged up bit still works great. Holds heat very well and when its closed it will not drip at all. Its a dark blue one and i think its 16 oz.

Had it for a about 5 years now. I bring coffee to work. I preheat with boiling water and coffee stays hot for at least couple of hours.

Went into the Memphis FedEx hub one night during the sort - there is a place where these two ladies brew up all the coffee for the crews to take on board. It was a forest of literally hundreds of those big green Stanley thermoses.

If you ever get a chance to see the sort at any FedEx hub, go. It's well worth the trip.

I have a thermos Nissan brand one as well as using it Mon-Fri for the past decade or so. I have the 750 mL size one. Coffee is still warm at 4pm when it's home time . I fill it at 7am

Thermos brand is best in my experiences. That's what I use.

The newer Stanley's with the green hammered paint are ****. They won't keep drinks warm for more than a couple of hours.

From my experince the Stanleys from the late 90's weren't near as good as the older ones. They used compressed charcoal as the insulation, my uncle has an old two qt model that still has the cork stopper, it keeps coffe from the pot hot for over 12 hrs.

Do you guys heat your thermos up with hot water before filling it with coffee? Usually find my coffee stil warm at the end of a day on the atv trais, often in the dead of winter. I have garden variety stainless thermos, including one from Tim Hortons....yum.

My name is Boyd too, and I am a thermos (general term of thermos not brand) lover. I am a 2nd generation of Machinist turned Engineer, my father is 75 and retired, he has an old Thermos that I can remember him using since I was just a kid. I have already told my siblings, "that Thermos goes to me" when that time comes, kind of a silly sentimental thing but what the hell.
I have been using a green Stanley lunch box combo for several years now and I love it. I put a large skull and cross bone decal on it, it is well known at the local coffee shop I go to in the mornings to fill it; they call it, “The Death Thermos”…. I KNOW, IKNOW, IAM A NERD.

I had a plastic one with the glass liner - I think it was $15 or so - used it for several years - but one good drop on a concrete floor at an auction and SMASH - that was the end of it. I guess my next one will be metal on the outside.

That's an interesting website and the bottles look good. I really like a stopper as opposed to a pour valve but I'm finding the stopper idea to be going the way of the dinosaur.

I think the Stanleys and Thermos' have declined in quality over the years -- not so much in the outer robustness but in terms of heat retention.

I currently use a vacuum bottle similar to the zojirushi but with a stopper. Old Starbuck's brand. It holds heat excellently.

The new Stanley's are made in China. I left my old one at QT in Des Memoines last summer when I went to the Good Guys event. Man I hated losing that jug. The new ones are junk!!!!!!!!!!

My thermos came from Tim Hortons. It works really well. Will keep coffee hot all day. Not sure who makes it though.

I bought this one new when I started construction work while still in high school. It's 26 years old now, and still keeps coffee hot all day. If you are looking at a used one, the date is stamped on the bottom. The year is on the right (86) and I believe the D is for the fourth month.

Yes, they're interchangeable. So the plan is to keep an eye out for another metal one, even if I have to live with a green lip on a black thermos.

I figure it's getting close to "Thermos time" in some parts of the country so I wanted to revive this thread and show my flea market find from last weekend. I bought it from a guy who said it was a birthday gift back in 1995 that he never used. It's not exactly vintage, but it was made here in the U.S. and the cup is metal...and it's practically new! He wanted $12, I got it for $10.

I'm a big fan of Klean Kanteens. I have two of the 20oz insulated bottles which keep my coffee hot all day long. If I put hot tea in them I can't drink it until lunch time unless I take off the cap. I like to drink out of the container so those thermos' would not work for me.
