What was the intended purpose of that conglomeration ?
LOL I was gonna be really sad if someone didn't ask.
We had a close pipe flange adapter, with 12pt. allen socket nuts (nuts, not a typo
) that needed to be torqued to 250lb. on studs. The opposite flange was so close that we couldn't fit the head of the 3/4" torque wrench with a bit socket on it.
The first solution the engineers came up with was to make an extended crowfoot by welding together the top half of a 3/4" extension to half of a 3/4" wrench, which would then turn the hex part only of a bit socket, dropped into the allen nut.
I told the engineers it would spread but they said to do it anyways. I suggested that we cut the bit socket piece shorter so we could slip the closed end over it, but they didn't want to ruin the bit socket since we still needed it for another part of the project.
After that failed miserably, I suggested we plasma torch half of the short end off a 3/4" allen key to make it into a stubby, and then use that as a crowfoot. I didn't want to waste time cutting the dud wrench off the extension, and didn't want to waste another good extension, so I just welded the cut off allen key on to the wrench and called it a day.
Worked great.
