They are on Channellocks website.

Channellocks internal search engine doesn’t catch everything.

https://www.channellockproducts.com/products/309443

They are authentic Channellock products backed by their lifetime warranty and they are identical to the Carlyle and the new Milwaukee (except for recessed handle on the Milwaukee)

Picked up a tiny 1/4 drive flex head ratchet recently. Part number R14NLFS. measures 3.54 inches long overall. As with any other NAPA product, get it when it's on sale. There's also a locking flex head version too.

The two older USA Napa ratchets (3/8 and 1/2) I have are made by Danaher I believe. The newer Carlyle are made by Kabo Tool Company in Taiwan. I have several of the Kabo ones, really like them.

In my opinion, the newer Kabo versions are better made and the ratcheting mechanism seems to feel like it is machined to tighter tolerances than the older Danaher ones. Others here may have difference experiences than I do, but for occasional use the older ones will work just fine.

I think Cripe has some of the older Napa ones (1/2 drive NS66) on there site for like $14 bucks.

Hope this helps.

Carlyle 15pc, 1/2" Drive, Metric Stubby Impact Socket Set (Made in Taiwan)

I purchased it last month for $54 from NAPA's quarterly Real Deals sales flyer. The height difference (1-3/8") between these stubby impact sockets and regular height impact sockets is noticeable.

That Carlyle is my FAVORITE 1/2” ratchet, and I own a Matco 88 locking flex 18”, a Duralast Comfort Grip, and a Cornwell SR50. What sets it apart is it’s low profile, balance/feel, and it’s as smooth, tight and strong as any of those other higher priced (even Duralast more $$) jobs. I love the feel of the handle.

The 3/8 is great too, but my FHLF80 is my favorite. Through I finally broke down and ordered the SK LP90 so she’s got some competition!

I know it's not Carlyle, but I imagine it's the same only Canadas version. Wouldn't buy it at full price ($80), but when it's in the flier for $19.99 I couldn't help myself.

Just picked up these ratchets (ended up swapping the long 3/8 for a normal length though).

I've gotta say, I have the Carlyle wrenches and now two ratchets and really like their stuff...but I get a little anxious about the brand sticking around. My local napa guy says he doesn't sell hardly any of it, and I've heard that from other on here as well.

What does everyone think about this? I hate to keep buying up Carlyle tools if the brand is going to end up getting the axe (thus meaning any warrantied Carlyle tools will be replaced with what ever they carry in it's place).

If I was paying Snap-on prices, or worried that all the equipment will break, I'd worry more about the warranty 10 years down the road. It's hard to break a quality made tool without abusing it. Chrome sockets and combo wrenches last forever. If your $40 ratchet gives up the ghost in 10-20 years and you're forced to upgrade it to SK or Snap-on, at that point you'd probably welcome the excuse to upgrade.

Do you expect your car to run for 40 years? Do you expect Toyota to give you a new truck for free after you beat the hell out of a Tacoma for decades?

Buy what you like and can afford. As long as ALL your tools don't **** out, costing you a huge sum all at once, does it matter if a few things with moving parts die over the next few decades? What's a hundred bucks over 10 years? $10 a year.

If you really like the ratchets you bought, enjoy them for however long you can.

Like wiens80 from a few posts above, I got myself one as well. At that price, it's hard to say no, and it's good reason to try out this 90-tooth mechanism:

wiens80 / superautobacs - saw that in NAPA on the weekend and I was tempted. I'd be interested to hear a follow-up after you've used them a bit. I don't need another ratchet, and almost hoping to avoid the temptation, but those looked pretty good.

I totally agree with Victor252's comments. The UltraPro brand has been around for at least 15 years and Canadian Napa still continues with it and comes out with new products like the ratchets shown in the pictures.

I would assume that Napa sells a lot more Carlyle tools in the USA than UltraPro in Canada because of the population difference. So there is a good chance that Carlyle will be around longer than some of the new Harbor Freight brands

I have a bunch of UltraPro tools that are really good for their price. They stand up to hard use and don't cost a small fortune. The 1/2 drive 12-point sockets are Snap-on, the rest are UltraPro

For the price, who cares?

They’re good enough to buy and use now. For those of us who can’t afford more expensive brands, it’s really nice to have this option.

Nothing lasts forever.

I did as well, and for the price it can`t be beaten, but I am open to suggestions!!!

With maintenance and repairs, yes, I do in fact expect my cars to run for 40 years. There are plenty of vehicles built in the 60's and 70's that are still running today because their owners kept them up. Today's cars should last even longer.

That being said, yeah, it's not a huge deal I suppose.

I totally agree with Victor252's comments. The UltraPro brand has been around for at least 15 years and Canadian Napa still continues with it and comes out with new products like the ratchets shown in the pictures.

I talked on facebook today with someone from Carlyle (a customer service person I'd imagine, but they were actually fairly knowledgeable). When asked about pushing Carlyle out more to DIY'ers and getting their name out there, they responded "Thank you for the tips! You are correct, there is definitely more that the Carlyle Tools Brand can do to appeal to the DIY Customer a bit more, and that comes on the back end here. However, we as a brand are definitely making some steps forward within this category, so hopefully in the next few months you'll start to see us a bit more in every market! 🙂". So Carlyle must at least be making a reasonable profit or you'd have to imagine they wouldn't be looking to expand it. This made me feel a lot better.

For the price, who cares?

They are in a great spot regarding quality for the price. With Craftsman's run into the ground, it left a hole for affordable quality tools. HF is coming up, but still spotty and their reputation will end up holding them back if they ever try to make a play for this market. Carlyle however, is in a pretty good spot for this. The tools are good, the prices are close to being right, and they have brick and mortar stores where you can actually warranty something without having to mail it in.

The guy at NAPA called today and said my order came in. The last two wrenches I needed to complete the extra-long zero offset wrench sets I bought a few months back. Also two stubby screwdrivers to complete the green screwdriver set I bought a month or so ago. I sure do wish they came in green, but blue is better than nothing.

Those have been in my truck since Father's day 2 or 3 years ago. Nice rats, they had a very good sale back then.

Funny story, the reason I went to get 2 sets (myself, my dad) was because they used the picture of Craftsman Premium (USA). Those familiar realize these are very distinct ratchets, someone w/ NAPA really screwed up there. I still feel I got my $30 worth or whatever it was.

I like how you can use the roto ratchets like a nut driver when starting a long bolt or nut on a long thread. Much more versatile. I was at NAPA looking at it and this Carlyle roto ratchet has a nice feel. I think it has 100 teeth on the ratchet. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Or any flex head really.

In the Heart of the Bluegrass
FWIW, I was in my local NAPA the other day. Made a special stop just to look at a set of deep SAE 3/8 dr chrome 6pt sockets. $75 seems reasonable if the quality is what this thread and others claim.

My counter guy did tell me that they quit keeping the Carlyle ratchets in the store because they were having to warranty so many of them. They would rather sell fewer of the Evercraft, but not have to replace half of them.

I’ve had some NAPA guys tell me the same thing, but then I’ve had other NAPA guys tell me they have sold dozens of them and never had to warranty one.

I’ve never had an issue with mine, and I got it used at a pawn shop. And I’ve used it pretty hard.

Yeah, I don’t think they are on sale any longer though. I haven’t looked at the Real Deals for this quarter yet.

Edit: I stand corrected. They are still $40 for a set in the Real Deals.
