What are guys warrantying out the ratchets for, torn soft grips? I have a 100 tooth roto head that has been my go to beat on ratchet, i didnt have any problems snapping a couple 3/8 bolts that were crusty the other day. I dont know how much further you would push a 3/8 ratchet before getting out 1/2 inch drive.

I love these tools so far, better than gearwrench, in my experience at least, available at all the local napas, and they arent behind the times like some other nice brands like sk....

My counter guy did tell me that they quit keeping the Carlyle ratchets in the store because they were having to warranty so many of them.

I find this hard to believe for a couple of reasons. First, my understanding is that NAPA rebuilds broken ratchets instead of replacing the whole ratchet. Second, if there was widespread Carlyle ratchet failure, i think people would have posted about it here. :dunno:

I like the Carlyle 90 tooth ratchets but, would like to see all metal handled versions

I own alot of carlyle ratchets. The only problem I've had in 5 years is the ratchet doesn't go all the way to the end of the comfort grip. I broke the end of the comfort grip and they replaced it the same day off the shelf. My store has almost all of the ratchets in Stock except 3/4 inch drive. I wouldn't think if it's a franchise store that they would be worried about warranty

Pulled the trigger on the SSD38014 3/8dr deep 6pt chrome sockets today. Didn’t get pics, they look just like the SSD39012M set above, but SAE. I’m very pleased with the quality for the price. My counter guy ran them through a local commercial account for me, final price was $67.**.

I’ve got gaps in my ratchet collection for long ratchets in both 3/8 and 1/2. Those may be my next purchases. With the soft grips for a change. All my other rats are chrome handle.

Settle something for me, is there actually any connection between Snap-On and NAPA/Carlyle? My counter guy mentioned it today, different one than made the comment about Carlyle ratchets and warranty last time I was in. I’ve seen that other places, but those seem like rumors to me?

None. Almost all of Carlyle is contract produced by independent Taiwan tool manufacturers. On an aside I actually think the stuff looks a lot nicer than what Snap-On uses for Taiwan Blue-Point.

As others have said, there absolutely no connection between Snap on and Carlyle tools. Aside from the Trusty Cook made bluish dead blow hammers, everything else comes from Taiwan, and I think there are multiple suppliers. Your counterman may just be trying to increase Carlyle tool sales but, he should stop spreading misinformation.

This, exactly. I can’t count how many times I’ve been looking at tools at various locations (NAPA, pawn shop, welding supplier, you name it) and everyone seems to think Snap On makes every tool they sell. My theory is they know most people recognize Snap On as being THE supreme tool manufacturer so they try to sell what they’ve got as, “made by the same company that makes Snap On,” which couldn’t be further from the truth.

Simply put, it’s a lie meant to promote tool sales. Whether or not they know they’re lying is the question.

In the latest real deals flyer there are other US made brass hammers right next to the TCs....I THINK they are Nupla.

Saw these on special for this quarter debated for a little then picked these up today, my first Carlyle tools.

Some comparisons in length. Smallest is a Crescent brand from some years ago but it was also made by Kabo so I was curious if there was any revisions (obviously yes).

I took a picture of the stores little wall, will post later if it came out okay.

Interesting....those use the same "MAC Edge" profile. I don't recall whether MAC offered it in a combo pattern though.
Does it have a modified open-end as well? If so, would be nice to see a close-up photo of that.

I missed my opportunity. I was looking at long soft-grip locking flex head ratchets in 3/8" and 1/2" as well as a 19 piece set of long pattern metric wrenches. Had it all priced out at $195. Then, when I tried to order online, it changed my price to double that. I figured out the website defaults to a store in Atlanta, my local store only matched the online price. By the time I figured out that the difference was due to the Atlanta store being corporate, the sale price was over. Can't even go find my closest corporate store and try to get the same price anymore.

I'll likely still order, but it'll cost me a couple hundred extra.

How do you like that roto ratchet? I've been thinking about picking one up. I've have the 3/8" locking flex head and LOVE IT.

I wouldn't overpay, be patient, Napa is pretty good about repetitive deals on ratchets/wrenches.

Local one stopped carrying Carlyle as well, all I saw were mainly Evercraft tools.

My counter guy did tell me that they quit keeping the Carlyle ratchets in the store because they were having to warranty so many of them. They would rather sell fewer of the Evercraft, but not have to replace half of them.

All three Napa's around my area stock mostly evercraft. They simply say they don't sell enough Carlyle. Then again it's always hiding behind a bunch of other b******* behind the counter. Maybe if they would display it better it would sell.

I got a few carlyle ratchets and nothing wrong with ratchet design/quality on 90 60 and 100 tooth I used, they stand up to daily autoshop use easily .
Only improvement would be hard handle option preferably with some knurling .
Main reason lot of napa stores don't stock it is it simply to expensive unless on sale.
It pretty good stuff but range needs increasing, more spec options need come in on existing lines and prices need come down a bit. Napa missing the carlyle potential, it needs improving and marketed direct to the professionals with tool delivery/trials and warranty all bought to you with you parts orders and all purchase and warranty info in online account records.
I already use napa and carlyle quite a bit because I realise the advantage of being able buy a tool any day I want and have it delivered while I still working, I also like it gives fast warranty a better chance and likely same day if got replacement or repair kit .
If they don't push it a step further it likely fall into pawn shop or old new stock ebay items only ...

Bought my first Carlyle tools. Not sure why I've never tried em before since we spend several grand a year at Napa. Ordered them at noon 2pm yesterday and picked em up this morning. Now I'm just waiting on them to figure out how I can get an orange 72" Homak with a stainless top so I've got room to put some more Carlyle tools.

That's because it's usually with all the other Carlyle, behind the counter, because you and I are presumed to be incapable of touching it without stealing it. Carlyle might go down in history with the highest quality to most asshated distribution method ratio in history.

That might be a Evercraft remote though, hard to tell.

Has anyone had problems with the open end of the Carlyle wrenches? I've only had mine for the two years I've been in automotive school. I've been pleased with them, up until this past Thursday. I went to use a 12mm on a really stubborn two-flat narrow nut on a transmission. It reamed the contact side of the wrench real good! Wish I would have got a picture. Anyways, went to napa for an exchange and the store manager pulls a "new" (returned I'm pretty sure) wrench off the shelf and gives it to me. This one is not near as bad but has two places where it rounded over the edge of the open end slightly. I went back to school the next day and looked at all my metric wrenches. My 13mm has done it a little as well. I freaked and put in an order for some proto wrenches - should be here by Monday. I'll try and post pics of the damaged Carlyle wrenches when I get a chance.

Probably the same as the MACs, they are the same as Matco 9 series. Open ends are a FD+ knock-off with far more aggressive teeth profile.

I just picked up the 1/4 and 3/8 standard ratchets without the comfort grip. I haven't used them yet, but can tell they are really good quality. They both have small heads. I really like the small size of the 1/4, but the 3/8 handle is a little too slim for me. I compared it to my Gearwrench 84T and I prefer the handle feel of the Gearwrench better but like the head size of the Carlyle better. I think I might return the 3/8 and get their 3/8 stubby instead.

Really hard to see the light damage in the pics. The center wrench is my buddy's Pittsburg. My Carlyle did almost the same thing that this Pittsburg did.

My experience, they are shown as sale prices, but they appear to be about what you can expect to pay every day. They are a discount over list price, but nobody ever pays list. YMMV...
