That’s what I’m thinking. If this is Taiwan COO it’s a pretty good deal. Tekton, Harbor Freight, Northern tool all sell steel 3/4” stuff from China that might be serviceable but looks like absolute garbage.

I don’t ‘need’ 3/4” drive but I recently picked up a breaker bar and ratchet for a decent price so not having sockets is silly.

Makes sense. You may have to give your local NAPA a call and get a set headed your way for inspection.

I have a couple of Carlyle tools at home, I really like the little 1/4" ratchet

My 3/8" flex head gets some good use also.

Lots of Carlyle goodness has found it's way into my garage in the last couple weeks.

First, I received the 1/2 Stubby Impact as a Christmas gift. Stoked about this guy. 1/2 power in a very small package. Picked up a set of Sunex nano sockets to go along with it. Here are photos of it next to my IR 231HA with a standard depth HF impact socket. Both are 10mm.

I was actually going to buy the Carlyle stubby impact sockets, but I found out they're only lazer etched and not stamped at all. The Sunex ones were slightly cheaper and dual marked. They also have the hex shank thing you can get a wrench on which may come in handy. Turns your ratcheting wrenches into pass-through sockets essentially.

Next, we have the SAE version of Metric the ratcheting wrenches I already have. The finish is great, just looks crummy in the picture because they were sitting out in the cold and when I brought them in, they got foggy. They caught me off guard a bit because I was thinking that my metric set has the same open end teeth that my long pattern combo wrenches had, the real aggressive ones, but I was wrong. Both ratcheting wrench sets have this less aggressive anti-slip style, which I'm actually happy about because it's nice to have both in case I'm working on aluminium or something I don't want to mark up. I also thought these were a little longer than they actually are. They're pretty much a standard length wrench, as are the metrics.

Nice!!!! You’re better at the pics the me. I just grabbed this bent handle ratchet. It might wind up being mostly unused, but I felt like it would have come in handy greatly when I did the rear brake caliper bolts on a car with awd (very little room back there). It was on the monthly sale though so I only paid like $30 with tax and I had a $5 NAPA coupon. Figured why not. Always wanted to try a bent handle ratchet and if I don’t like I’m out only $25 and could always probably sell it for at least that. 7fd190a165349fb42b5eb2722ac3b31f.jpg56d784492f55c5575fa07c3c1d1650bc.jpg

I use a bent handle ratchet whenever I remove the front brake calipers. The bent handle allows me to get in there and swing the ratchet without hitting the brake rotor.

I know a few people were able to pick up the Carlyle reversible ratcheting wrench sets that are on sale. There are none available in my area.
I noticed in the current real deals flyer that in addition to the six point reversible ratcheting wrench sets that are on sale, Carlyle is also introducing new 12 point reversible ratcheting wrench sets.
Do you think Carlyle is going to switch to 12 point reversible ratcheting wrenches and phase out the ratcheting six points?

I dont like 6 points on my ratcheting wrenches or I'd have sprung for Carlyle so I do hope they push the 12s and offer some better deals as 190 dollars doesnt really seem on sale? William's, Blackhawk and many others are the same price or cheaper. I wanted them but found 190 to be a stretch.

Unless they have some oddball catalog limit I assume they'll keep both. 12pt just doesn't work on any bolt down near the road after 6-8 years. My dream set of wrenches would be 6pt reversible ratcheting with a locking flex and the extended (offset) ring at about ProSwing length.

I’ve been trying to justify the purchase of my first ever flex-head ratchets for a year. I’ve finally got a project coming up where a 1/2” flex ratchet will make it much easier to access a couple bolts, so I ordered these along with the parts:

How's the 3/8 holding up after a few months? Still haven't been able to bite the bullet on it.

I've been breaking break caliper and caliper bracket bolts lose with extra long 12 point wrenches all week long. I'm also in MN, and rusted **** is in abundance here.

Who knows, but they're pretty good at offering variety so I imagine they will keep both options.

I for one dig the 6pt. In a perfect world where no-one broke look bolts with ratcheting wrenches, it wouldn't matter, but we know we all do that ****. You're laying under the vehicle already and you're not about to get your big *** up off the floor for the 9000th time to get get a standard combo when you've got the ratcheting on in the right size with ya already. :lol_hitti

Right on man. I've been considering picking that one up, and may before the end of the quarter, but I don't really need it and just dropped some serious coin on tools and projects over the holidays so I need to stop the bank account bleeding if you know what I'm sayin.

If there is enough meat to them sure, not 12, 10, 8, 7mm etc.. though. Calipers are also reasonably protected from constant road spray as opposed to exhaust or components around the sub frame/differentials.

I've been getting away with wrenches on everything down to about a 12, absolutly right that 10, 8, 7, 6 are a *******. I wouldn't even try those with a 6 point ratchet wrench so I suppose it doesnt matter to me personally.

Here's my new Carlyle tools.....absolutely disappointing. I've been using one Carlyle Ratchet and its been a great tool, comfort grip 3/8th. This one

Here's what showed up today.

Disregarding that they sent me a very used ratchet, the chrome on the other two ratchets as well as the chrome on the metric ratchet wrenches is equally as...meh. Ratchet mechanism feels ok, dont think they've been used at least, needs some ATF I suppose... Very very underwhelmed and I was really excited to get these.

Comparison to a rather used GW long pattern 15, all I had left at home. Notice all the little nicks, and its brand new. Not a tool polisher at all....but I am a little disappointed, think i'll put the wrenches in service, maybe... they fit in the tray like ****. :(

Damn man, you're literally the very first person I've seen have this experience. I'd for sure go talk to your napa guy and have them give you new ****.

I will admit thought that the chrome job on the carlyle tools does seem to attract more fingerprints I've noticed, not sure about scratches. Either way, nicks and scratches in a new tool aren't acceptable, and may indicate a bad batch of chrome(pure speculation, I know nothing about the chrome process) that might flake down the road, so I'd exchange those to just to be safe.

I bought them online, my local napa owner is a douche bag. Might try one of the other ones near me. Do they return stuff bought online, hows that work? I've also never seen anyone have a bad experience, so I was really really excited to get these, like a kid on Christmas!

The nicks are only half of it, you can see it in the picture where they're in the tray...they look very....cloudy to me. Even after being wiped down. Its possible they're used too? Hence the extra nicks/dings? I dont see any wear marks in the ratchet ends, but I suppose those can be swapped out.

I know the one I have as linked above from their website is fantastic, great chrome too. I'm wondering if I somehow got used...everything lol. Going to go investigate a little more, just snapped these quick and ate some food.

Honestly it looks like someone bought them, used them, returned them, then they came to you. With a receipt they should accept the return. I normally just reserve the item online then pick it up in the store. This way I can just not accept the item if I saw it looked like that. I’m sorry. I think you just got bad luck on that one.

I will say that like all things NAPA, the customer service is hit or miss. The store by me never knows how their coupons work, or mistake when things I ordered came in, etc. Hell, just now that post a bit ago about 20% off? Well NAPA sent out another email saying that’s actually only at select stores and gave no way to determine which stores are eligible.

I’ve been impressed so far with the quality of their tools, and picking up stuff in person fixes any issues from idiot employees not doing the quality control they should (those ratchets you showed were messed up after they left the factory). They should do a better job, but I’d rather go through these occasional headaches and just get a good product in the end than deal with having to pay shipping costs to return defective items.

After further review, I believe you're right. There are soooo many large and small scratches in the chrome, that they have/had to be used. Circle scratches around the ratchet mechanism, as you'd see when ratcheting the wrench while up against something. I'm very excited to get a new set of these wrenches, they look like they'll be perfect should Napa be able to exchange them for me. I'll hold my judgement tell then.

The used ratchet doesn't even ratchet by the way. Locked up good :( Feels bad.

I feel your pain. I’ve been there. Trust me. Reserve online for in store pickup. You wind up paying in store so the Napa guys treat it like a regular purchase in store just with better prices and less hassle.

Reason I prefer this even with the occasional issues like you experienced, is because I had a weak return spring on one mini plier from gear wrench that didn’t work and the return process was so cumbersome it wasn’t worth it, plus I’d have been charged shipping.

Might as well. Might get a coupon. I can’t see any Napa not accepting the return of you print out the recipes and bring it with you. Especially since you just bought it. I’m curious how it turns out for you. If Napa hoses you, I may buy way less of their stuff.

Not everything Carlyle sells is made overseas... their putty knives / scrapers and hammers are made in the states. Besides, I have seen some shady snappy quality. It does not matter much where an item is made as much as the quality of the item made...

Might have to, at least to see what they say.

Meanwhile .... back in the United States of America .... :D

Every company has issues, I stand by my statement I made awhile back on here somewhere about not judging a companies worth based on one tool or product. Its unfortunate, cause I now own 3 Carlyle products and two of them are used tools I just received, but should they exchange them it'll be ok. A little annoyed I have to go through the hassle tho

Plus as fed stated, those are ugly :D But, so are these with the ratchet mechanism hanging out one side I suppose....****.

Hard to see, but you can just make out the scratches in a circle pattern around the ratchet mechanism.

The wrenches don't look used to me at all. Camera flash is going to bring up micro scratches on any tool. They get binned with a hundred others so it happens. Ratchet is pretty bad though. Im sure a store will swap it out for you.

I don't care for their looks. They could be fine wrenches but, the head looks too thin compare to the beam fork. :dunno:

Yea they look like they used the exact same joint design as a ratchet or breaker bar. Doesn't do anything for me either.

Yeah, cause 'merican! tools never have issues....

Borrowed from a recent thread. Apparently these were pretty new...

I've had a few defective tools from Snap-on over the years. Each time they were quickly replaced without issue. Those pliers will be easy to get replaced.

I'm torn and cant come up with an opinion either which way. I think if they're not used, the finish is VERY poor. I've bought tons of tools in the last 5 years and none looked this foggy or nicked up. In fact, I just remembered I have some ****** lobster claw craftsman hiding somewhere. I'll get pics tomorrow.

There's also no camera flash in these pictures, there's a few dimish lights in my kitchen and thats what it looks like in said light.
