Unfortunately, it looks like this quarter's real deals flyer is a wash for me too. Oh well, I don't really need anything. It is disappointing though that they're offering the same stuff at higher prices this quarter. :wtf:
Considering you can get the Tekton two foot long 1/2 drive ratchet for a third of this quarter's price for the Carlyle version, I don't think they'll be too many takers even if NAPA had them to sell

I'm not sure why that 24 incher was so popular with the low tooth count anyway. The Tekton one has a much nicer feel.

I just finished upgrading all my torque wrenches because the 32-36 tooth heads were driving me nuts.

I missed out on the 25” ratchet. Ordered it at the store then they called me back and said they couldn’t get it until August and it wouldn’t be the sale price then. I sure do wish it could have been ordered online.

That's what I've found on many of the items in the flyer. About the only thing I was able to order for delivery were my reversible ratcheting wrench set and 1/2" drive chrome sockets.

Their distribution system really seems quite inefficient. It is also ridiculous to have to pay to have something shipped to the store. Just put it on the damn truck at the warehouse.

Shipping to store, cooperate stores anyway, is always free provided the item doesn't need to be transferred from a different region. If I order something and they have to transfer it from, say, Texas then there is a $10 charge and its usually expedited shipping and I have it in a couple days. I don't think that's unfair.

Have you tried both? I wouldn’t trust a high tooth count on a two foot ratchet unless it was made extremely well. I like Tekton but it takes a ton of quality control (see tolerances for matching gears and pawls) to get all the teeth to engage for a large amount of surface area. Carlyle ratchet’s feel is great. Shaft feels sturdy with no flex. Very smooth. Not saying Tekton is bad, and I certainly wouldn’t pay the price Napa charges before a sale, but at $40 or whatever it was it was a steal. I just don’t believe in high tooth counts on what is essentially a breaker bar. But what do I know.

And worth mentioning, I have Tekton impact sockets and some Tekton torque wrenches that I like a lot. I just don’t want a high tooth count 2 ft ratchet.

I know this is a showoff thread, but there are several pics of what I just bought on this thread.

I just picked up 2 sets of the SDS8 8pc combination screwdriver sets for 21.99 each. I had read about those here at GJ but wasn't sure. When I went to the local NAPA store and held a couple of these in my hand I fell in love. Really nice set for the price!!

I've been in the process of replacing my old hard handled, stinky feet smelling craftsmans. And I've been impulse buying a few different brands including the Milwaukee comfort grip and the HF Professional. I need screwdriver sets for my woodworking shop, garage and mobile tool sets.

I was also playing with various pliers and the Carlyle ratchets at the store. I have a feeling I am going to develop a bit of a Carlyle fetish to go along with my Milwaukee fetish. I'm too poor and cheap to develop an SO or SK fetish... I wish I had checked these out before replacing most of my old impact sockets and wrench sets

I’m pretty sure Carlyle impact sockets are Sunnex impacts, just rebranded. I have sunnex impacts and love them. Great quality, and packaged well too. Not sure about other Carlyle pliers, but check out the slip joints. Cross hatched knurling at the tips, with a narrow top plus built in wire cutter. Pretty sure they are rebranded Matco’s, or they just ripped the design 100%

Thanks great news. Because the impact sockets I bought were Sunex (both 1/4 and 3/8 sets)... Great prices on those...(bought from Amazon)

It would be be big stretch to call anything a "Matco ripoff" when they don't actually manufacture anything but tollboxes themselves.

I've really grown to love Carlyle ratchets. Someone else said they are the tools Craftsman should have been - and they are exactly right. I'm getting rid of my craftsman USA full polish ratchets in favor of these. The quick release works nicely with the dumb double detent craftsman sockets also. The action feels great and I really like the handles - they grip and feel nice and clean up nicely with a rag and a little WD40. I like them better than the Snap-On handles I've toyed with and although I try and buy american tools whenever possible these fit the bill for the home enthusiast that I am. I"m not sure how but they keep multiplying.:wtf: Maybe after I get a standard handle flex non locking 3/8 I will be done. :spit:

I have had great luck with Carlyle hex bit sockets - very precise fit on everything I have ever used them on. Very impressed.

Seeing as the UltraPro ratchets are Carlyle up here on the chilly side, does anyone know if the sockets themselves are also made by Carlyle? Looking to replenish some of the missing pieces in the farm shop but want to go with something a little better than Mastercraft etc.

Took advantage of this quarter’s sale to get two items I’ve had my eye on. 3/8” Roto (I love their 1/4” roto so I figured I’d get this one too) and also got their hex bit set. Just got them so no clue how they actually work but everything looks the part and the ratchet feels good. I love the knurling they put on the metric sockets. 3bdd8a49722e9fe5a7801cf5a6c93337.jpg

Do you have a part number on that bit set?

Picked up a pair of the wire strippers/crimpers that are on sale in the real deals this month. For 20 bucks they are very very nice. Not sure if they are the same as the snap on ones or copies but they look the same and feel great. I already have probably a dozen or more strippers and crimpers and just bought the astro ratchet crimper but still wanted these. Part number wsccp

I know it's just a case of wanting what I can't get, but man those are cool....

Theyve been awesome. Every bit as nice as my snapon ratchets.

My only concern is lack of parts availability if something breaks. My NAPA guys would likely just swap out the ratchet, assuming they have a replacement which is the problem! I ended up waiting about 5 months for the UltraPro 3/8 Roto-ratchet when I bought it. Dont have to worry about that with snap on.

Do inside micrometers that go down to 15mm even exist? I'm thinking they meant calipers.
Yes. I have Starrett inside mics that range 0.2-1.2" and 1"-2". Beyond that you can use a taper gage, gage pins, or adjustable parallels, depending on the exact circumstances.

I loathe the inside jaws on typical dial or digital calipers. Too sharp, too flimsy, too hard to get repeatable readings.

Anyone have the CWL1218 and CWL1219M sets? Are both nonslips?

I need a second set and debating if I go with channellocks or carlyle?

I don't have those specific sets, but judging from the photos the CWL1218 appears to be nonslip and the CWL1219M appears to not be.

I went with the non-slip long pattern sets myself. Love em.

Been wanting to pick up the 1/4” swivel head to see if I liked using it. Let’s just say it now takes a lot for me to reach for another ratchet... Definitely going to pick up the 3/8” next.

I’ve avoided comfort grips in the past because of how dirty they get, but a little WD40 and she looks like new.

Picked up this NAPA pro service tools filter wrench for my old F100 fuel filter canister. Worked very well and less than $20. Very impressed. **wondering if anyone has any Carlyle jacks ? I was thinking of getting one since I have been so impressed with their tools. I would rather buy s Carlyle than a harbor freight Daytona. Any have a Carlyle jack and care to share a review?

I am a big fan of swivel heads myself. How do you find the direction knob? Is it easy to change with one hand?

JayLSU might have some good thoughts.

I personally usually use two hands most of the time. Requires all 5 fingers on the 1/4 roto for one handed operation. All bets are off if you accidentally cut off some fingers in a drunken grinder accident.

028401d4e1e10dd448fbf92a994b2ac8.jpg

I also have small hands that helps. If you have larger hands I think you might be out of luck.

The 3/8 roto is much easier. I also have an older one with deeper recesses which seem easier to grab.

The change of direction is firm, but I can get it done on mine - with one qualifier... My Carlyle swivel heads are the "old" version of this ratchet, with a blue anodized quick release button instead of the chrome button on the new ones. The old version has little "ridges" on the back cover plate that make it easy to grip and change the ratchet direction. The new version of the Carlyle S100 ratchets have small holes instead. If you look at Odd-job's post above you can clearly see the difference. I would think that it would be easier to turn on the old version, but I can't speak to that since both my 1/4" and 3/8" swivels are the old version... Maybe Odd-job can say whether he feels a difference?

I am actually not sure what is old versus what is new. I do like the one with the smaller silver button better which sounds like the new version per JayLSU. Basically more grip area to switch the ratchet with the trade off being a smaller button to release the socket. I’ll take the smaller socket release button any day.

the older roto head was better as easily stripped for clean and lube, the new ones are factory crimped in centre .
I think the toptul roto's worth look at, can be found for fraction carlyle price with or without moulded grip and they nice quality and can be serviced .
Crescent roto heads another value option for nice spec roto ratchet .

Hi guys, I am a mechanic in Melbourne, Australia. We don't have the range of brands available here like you have in America, I am always jealous of the great deals I see on this forum. I have been following this thread and really liked the look of the Carlyle locking flex head ratchets and decided to search eBay and see if I can find a deal on them. I found a seller in the UK (of all places!) and ordered a set of 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 Carlyle locking flex head ratchets for $195 AUD (about $130 USD) including shipping and import duty. Can't wait to get them, I will post some photos and initial impressions when they arrive. They will probably be the only set in Australia!
