7000 Rotary I had to make a few mods to get to work with a 10 ' cieling, but that was as high as I could build with local code . That being said it works well for me I can go high enough with my car that I can walk under , but Im 5'9".

Here is a picture of my new garage with an older Rotary FP-46 Model inground single cylinder lift. I took it out of an old service station that was closeing, installed a new seal kit, and control valve. It is operated by air over hydraulics. I am also useing Biodegrable hydraulic fluid to make it enviromentally friendly if it ever leaks any fluid into the ground.

How deep did you have to dig the hole for that cylinder??

8 ft, 2 inches. I ended up digging it out by hand because I couldn't find a bobcat/auger attachement that would go that deep. Also, after about 5 feet I hit sandstone, and had to dig the last 3ft with a rented jack hammer. Took about 3 weeks to dig the hole the hard way, working on it every day. Hardest thing I have ever done, but I think it was worth it.

I've got the same lift...came with the shop, so I'm not complaining. It will not lift my Dodge Ram 3500 4X4, even though it's rated for 8000 lbs. I'm only running 110 lbs air pressure, though. I might crank it up a bit and give it another try....

Mine is actually rated for 10,000lbs, it has the 10 5/8 cylinder. The heaviest vehicle I have had on it is my Toyota Tundra, and it lifted the Tundra fine. Just a little slower than my other cars. I bet your 3500 dodge weighs a lot more than my truck though. I love these inground lifts because when they are down, there is not any post in the way to work around. They work great for what I mainly work on, but they would not be much help for vehichles with the engine in the front, transmission in the middle, if you were doing transmission or cluch work.

A floor plate model worked best for me due to the bridge crane. The 9k lift is from National Auto Tools but my next one will be a Bend Pak.

I've already posted pics of my lift in this thread, but yesterday Jeff from BendPak sent me a video that he and his guys did of my lift, so I figured I would post it here. Click on the link below, then on the second pic down to see the video.

rburke65,

Yes mohawk sell's the underground kit. But I believe it's over $1500.00, and they are just stainless tubing which could be sourced and fabbed cheaper.......

A couple of years ago I talked the wife into letting me get a lift for the hanger.

Later the next year we were out at the hanger and the wife said "you need to get another car orginizer" I was like sure maybe some day. A little while later while I was driving home I figured out what she ment. So now I have two lifts, I will never complain about the wifes shoe organizers again. :bounce:

For those of you, that have all these great lifts;
One would think, that you tackle more projects, under your vehicles with a lift, but do you, or does it just make the same work, you did before easier?

I just use mine to get the car to an easier height to detail it. I have a bad back.

Where were you able to find a new single post lift?

I bought mine used from an old Service station that was closing. A friend had told me about it, and that they were wanting to turn the Service Station into a Restraunt, and the old shop bay into a Smoking Area. I quickly made an offer on taking the lift off his hands. I kept it in my house garage for 2 yrs until I started building the new shop out back. I sourced a new seal kit with gland ring, control valve, and copies of the original service manual from Rotary. Along with new (very costly) biodegradeable fluid from Grainger.

I bought mine to use with my air cooled vw's. Makes pulling engines easier than jacking up the rear of the car nearly 3ft in the air. I have also used it to replace struts and A-arm bushings on my newer water cooled vw, something that I had previously paid hundreds of dollars for a shop to do. I have also replaced a oil pan, on my new beetle and that's something I wouldn't have attemped with ramps, or a floor jack. My lift has already paid for it's self, in letting me be able to do things that in the past I would just rather pay someone else to do for me.

Back in 2008, I purchased this lift for $600. It is a 1999 Target somethingorother with a 9,000 lb capacity. I called up Target and they sent me two equalization cables for around $150. I told them I was repainting it, so they also send me a pack of logo decals and safety stickers.

I spent a Saturday afternoon with a friend sanding all the parts down with a DA sander. I primed with rustoleum industrial hard-hat primer, then rolled on two coats of their gloss black industrial enamel with a foam roller. I sprayed the lift arms with safety red. Turned out awesome! I have about $800 into it and a bit of labor. Works perfect!

My next lift will be from Target. Made in Texas, HEAVY build and well made. None of this shady overseas stuff for me. Their prices are great, too. Check out their page...

SJK2....thanks ever so much for the info and the prints. Tomorrow, July 24, 2011, 3 friends and I go to remove the 9000# lift and bring her home. I already have received the factory paint and the complete decal set from Mohawk......ya, I'm excited.

I'm considering a lift and have the same question. I think the answer has to do with the car. Our modern cars are very difficult to jack and have a jackstand under. There simply is no good place to put a jack stand. Thus for newer cars it's almost a requirement for any serious work.

We just got our lift in today. :) Still need to hard wire the lift and plumb the lock release air line. Got a Forward 14k. Please excuse the dirty garage, we're still working on making it more of a shop than just a garage. :bounce:

Lifts aren't all that much money, my BendPak was ~$3k. You can save that up in a year at $58/week.

does anyone have a mid rise scissor lift hoist like this? if so how do you like it and what is best about it?

I am a little late to the party on this one but I have a mid-rise lift. I use it for cars and i built a platform that fits over it and put my bikes on it. Installed a wheel clamp and tie downs to the platform. When I need to use it with a car I take the platform off and roll it over. I will show some pics soon. I have tread around here some where about my garage just have not been on much as a late.

Here are a couple pics of my lift. Like I said it is a mid-rise, there are 4 arms that come out to grab the side of the car. The pics are with my motorcycle platform on top. My goal is to get a 4post, my ceilings are only 10ft but this one does the job for now.

I have two four post lifts (Direct Lift) in my garage at home for storage reasons. I rent a 1500 square foot shop to do work in and it has an Ammco two post that I love. Makes life so much easier. I have a standard 2 car garage that I vaulted the ceiling with the highest point 10'6".
