I would not waste money on T8, 8' lamps the cost is excessive compared 4' T 8 lamps, but electronic T12 ballasts are avail. to replace some electromagnetic ballasts.

Here is a countdown to the deadline: http://www.advance.philips.com/

Thanks for the info on the electronic ballast for F96T12/HO they are cheaper than the old ones. As mine go out I will replace them, I wish I could do them all at once for the quietness, but I have 10 of them. It shows home depot carries them for $38 dollars http://www.homedepot.com/Lighting-F...splay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053
Anybody know any place cheaper?

I have 9 4' dual bulb t8 fixtures in my 19x23, and it's just right, definitely not too bright.

I put in an emergency light, after another member suggested it. If the power goes out and you have a saw/grinder/god knows what spinning down, or a project on the floor, you will be glad for the light.

The one light does a good job of lighting my garage "enough" for an emergency.

Been wanting to post this for a while. Just took some pics yesterday. I found the fixtures on craigslist. Came out of a school remodel. The garage is 28 x 35 12' high.
I hung 12 fixtures. 3 rows of 4. They hang about a foot down from the ceiling. Each fixture hold four 4' bulbs. 48 bulbs total. The bulbs are the Sylvania 4100 from Lowes. The middle row goes right between the door rails. The outside rows have a step in them so they are out side the door rails. Same amount of light if the doors are up or down.

They are plugged into six 4 gang outlets in the ceiling. Each outlet is controlled by 2 switches. 6 switches total.

Depending on how they are plugged in I can turn on any two lights in any pattern. Right now I have them staggered every other light. Could change them to pairs, but I like it this way for now. I can have three switches on and the whole garage is lit at half power.

If I just run in for a minute or two I usually just hit one center switch. Its enough light to find a tool or something.

If I'm working on one side I'll hit 2 or 3 switches in the area I'm in.
If i want to buff paint or something I hit them all and it's like daylight in there.

This is about a year after we moved in so excuse the mess, I think we just had a rummage sale right before this.
There is a another strip of lights in the back corner not turned on above the bench and I still need to put some more in the raised ceiling above the last bay.
