I have a lot of road signs, car plates and other metal signs but this one is the most talked about. I got it when I was deployed in 05. Climbed the power pole to get it, little dumb on my part, could have been shot! But it was a "got to have" for me!

It might have been spared from the scrappers but it looks like it had it's fair share of target practice

I'd like to pick up some more signs but I'm about out of wall space.

The county is replacing all of our road signs and I imagine over the next year or so, most places are going to do it also, if they haven't already. ODOT here in Ohio wants all signs replaced to higher visibility signs. That means every yellow signs that you see in Ohio will be going to the brighter yellow, all STOP signs will get replaced.

And with that, I caught the county guy across the road last month replacing our STOP sign. The wife and I started speaking with him and through marriage he is related to my BIL. Do you think I could get a sign off of him though? Hell no We wasted a half an hour sucking up for a sign for nothing. He said they all get turned in and recycled. I couldn't even buy one. So I figure that him and a few of his buddies will have a garage full before long. So for the Ohio guys you might want to keep a look out around your area when they start replacing them.

I did find out a while back that my yellow Stop sign was dated before 1954, then they switched to red. IIRC, I picked it up at a garage sale for something like $5.00. I'd still like to pick up a stop sign that has the marbles in them or a R.R. sign with the marbles. I may have to dig out all of my signs and maybe start a thread like the License Plate swap thread and see if we can start swapping with others. I'd like to have a few from the other side of the pond.

BTW....if you do a search on FleaBay for "Signs with Marbles" or do a search in a search engine, you can readily find replacement marbles. They're not just a round marble, but they are in an enclosed housing and I think a spring behind them. that keeps them pushed tight to the outside of the enclosure. Not 100% positive though as to how the housing is exactly made. The reason I say this is that I notice that you have a couple missing.

If you get a chance, could you snap a couple of closeup shots of the front and back? I may just have to try and make one someday.

as i've posted before. I lived close to an old service station and we used to shoot the signs all the time...if only I knew then, what i know now about the signs...sheesh

Yep. Here's one of mine I just picked up at a gas & oil swap meet. Had the thought of trying to repair the bullet hole for a minute but then decided it gives it "character" so I'm leaving it as is.
