I'm trying to get my thoughts together for a 50's/60's themed lounge area in the shop. A place we can kick back, listen to music and hang out.

I've got the work area mapped out and underway. The wifes sewing room is nearing the end, so I'm looking ahead to the play room.

I have seen some of what some of you guys have done and the inspiration has been great.

Since I'm just beginning to plan this area, the visual comes and goes. I do have a vague mental picture of where we want to go, but this is where you can help.

Post your "Chillin' Corners", lounge areas, Soda Shops and the like. I appreciate your input and help!

I am in the same boat as you are. I am trying to envision what I am going to be doing in mine that could set it self apart from others that I have seen. However, I like vintage and antique themes. Amazon sells a ton of vintage looking signs for pretty cheap, so I will be buying up a stock in these.

I don't have a cool shop, barn or lounge....but if your going for a 50's/60's motiff, I'd say checkerboard floor, red leather seating, white or light colored walls, lots of chrome gadgets/decorations and vintage type wall art/signs

Did you draw out that diagram yourself? If so, I love your work on laying it out on paper. You've motivated me to sit down and dust off the drawing pencils to map out my hang out spot/garage. Thanks! :rocker:

Yeah, I've been picking up signs and do-dads all along. Have a Gilbarco air meter and a 50's/60's electric gas pump to work into the scheme. The "vision" as it were, needs a bit of inspiration and a kick start.

It's been posted many times, but here goes.... The Hot Rod Grille Garage.

Jim

Jim, YES, I have seen your garage, but some of these images are new to me. I don't think it's been posted TOO many times! THANKS!

The theme of my shop is "space to work on stuff".
Yeah, I got a "space to work on stuff". The cars, a building for wood working and one for tear downs and storage. Thing is, I work 6-7 days a week and at home as well. Build a few engines a year for friends, do some welding and occasionally, I can work in doing nothing, the older I get the more of that I'm going to do. I dig being in the shop in between jobs, so having a place to chill and admire where I've worked my *** off has an appeal that deserves some attention, too.

A good friend of mine did that drawing. I had a conversation with him about my goals and some ideas for the shop. He took an afternoon off one day to "doodle" his interpretation of what I wanted. David was so intuitive, that his drawing is almost a perfect overlay of what I had in mind. David is a very talented guy, an Industrial Designer and a car guy (our connection). Here's a plug for him: http://www.lewinindustrialdesign.com/ I had some sketches of the shop, but hey, this was so complete I am kinda following his lead. I hope to pull together some thoughts on the Themed area and get those sketched up soon. I'd like to see your ideas, too.

I keep the party just outside the man door....

Just make sure you have enough shelves for the trophies and wall space for the plaques!

Those things do take up a ton of room don't they.

If I had anything outside tonight, it would be 5 blocks away. We're having a "Blow"!
