I just picked up this old drill press, the guy said this was a Delta but I haven't found any other like it. Very few have the Quill tube like this on top. Does anybody have an idea who made this? The castings all say T11 on them (T11-403, 404, 406. It looks as though the original color was gray. The castings including the top cover are quite heavy.

It doesn't look like any delta I can recall either but the spindle guard was actually somewhat common for several manufacturers, but most have gone missing over the years. I need one for a 30's Craftsman/atlas I have... :eyecrazy:

My brother just picked up an old old drill press that looks as if you mount it to a 6"to 8" pole and runs off one of the old 1 cylinder motors from the 1920's. Anyone know what company made/makes such an item ?

Thank you

Just picked up this "camelback" a couple weeks ago, in the midst of a restoration, doesn't look anything like this now. will post some more pics when finished. It's a JE Snyder and Son 23" from around the twenties, with back gear and power down feed.

yaidunno---If your shop ever gets too cluttered up with all that antique "garbage" that you've collected...

I'll be glad to help you out, and give the drill press a new home...

Here's a recent acquisition, not yet restored.

And a nice Beaver I got recently for a steal.

But my favourite is this little Atlas. I got it like this.

And this is it restored.

Then I made a pulley block so I could get more speed ranges.

The atlas and beaver presses go up against a cheap drill press in the following video. All of them are buyable in the same price range if you hunt long enough.

Wow effing wow Very nice

I`ve seen camelbacks advertised before but i`ve never given them a 2nd thought but boy has that view changed. What brand is that beauty and what do i look for when buying one?

Thanks. The press is made by the Hoefer Mfg Company out of Freeport IL. I've honestly never heard of the company, and theres not much info on them. Its a great heavy piece though and it has no problem making some chips. The biggest thing to check for would be slop in the babbitt bearings that the shafts are supported in. Other then that, spindle runout is the only other issue i can think of. Obviously check the condition of the gears and such. I'd be cautious if the table looks like swiss cheese, it could be an indication of misuse. These old presses will need regular lubing, so keep that in mind. You really cant beat the sound of the leather belt running and the dull clatter of straight cut gears. Its almost as if the machine comes to life.

Don't know what it weighs.i am guessing around 3000 lbs. it was a scary time moving this into garage and shop.had to haul it on its side then put it on carts on its side then roll it into shop then stand it up. There was a lot of puckering going on that nite! Lol

Turn that lathe on end, call it a drill press, then post a sideways picture of it! Please?

[/IMG]Here is my Craftsman that I just picked up for $51 from a GSA auction. Thanks to my uncle ADMRANGER for pointing me to it. It needs a fair amount of work but the bearings in the spindle feel good and the motor runs good. The chuck and the vertical movement are froze right now but I will get them fixed.

Willymutt, before forcing anything, that plated lever on the front left side is a quill lock. loosen it up first and maybe even give it light tap after a couple of turns.
