Read again, not upgrading but "modernizing", probably something with more plastic, globally manufactured and a whole slew of much needed "safety features". :lol:

zkling - Thanks. Photo taken last night. I learned early on that older US made is hard to beat, and usually inexpensive if you know where to look. Here is the rest of the shop. To the far left is a white Artcraft cabinet that is probably from the 40s.

I'm in an apartment (condo) right now near downtown Chicago, of all places. I really need a garage. The stuff I've had to sell or pass up simply because I don't have a garage...

That's a good little indoor work space! I like how you cut the long benches down to fit the space available, yet still retained the strength of the beefy legs.

I have that same size metal barrel as mu trash can in my shop near the main vise. only mine has no casters... I used to empty it weekly, but with recycling so much, I empty it a few times a year...

Thanks. The tables came like that. I wouldn't have the heart to cut them down. The one on the right needs some reinforcement. Tends to sway when sawing. The table on the left needs casters. With the vise, drill press, scroll saw, and storage bins, it has to weigh close to 300 pounds.

I'm surprised at how easily all that stuff fits, considering the size of the room. I will be selling that Delta / Rockwell scroll saw soon. Works fine, but I can't justify keeping a tool like that if I don't have an immediate use for it. I'll put it on OWWM soon.

If it is swaying side to side cut some 1/4" plywood for a back and use maybe 3 screws on each end to settle it down, if front to back, it depends on how the legs are constructed, and I'd need closer pics to advise. the basic principal is to use the sheet to make the square rigid under load. done is two directions and the thing gets real stable real fast.

Thanks. I will tackle that soon...perhaps in my own (rented) garage. We are trying to move to safer, bigger housing away from the city. Renting a house with a garage would be ideal. With some grace, we will be out of here in a month or less. That's a discussion for another thread.

Well finally the beast runs!! The sparky come over and got the wiring sorted. it's a lot quieter than I expected and I still have to figure all the levers out but I did drill a hole with the power feed!!!!!:thumbup:

I cant believe the number of vintage/antique presses that come up for sale for cheap and guys aren't buying 'em up. That camel back on page 15 I think is a prime example. 125 bucks, are you kiddin' me.

I'm going to take a look at it tomorrow. See if I can get a deal. Currently have a Craftsman 150 Bench Drill Press with Speed Reduction Pully. Really like this press, does everything I ask of it - Solid.

Just joined this club the other day, I found this piece on Kijiji for $50. It needs a little bit of work, but it is in running condition and for that price i couldn't resist. I've contacted Delta about more info based on the serial number but no response yet. From I have found, I think the 9- serial indicate around 1939 or 1940 manufacturing year, but if anyone has more info it would be appreciated.

nice find you have there, it appears it doesnt even have any arc of shame. i'm in the middle of restoring a delta homecraft

OK I didn't find one in here, and Vintage machinery will take me all night... (But I'm digging...)

Anyone recognize the brand? if I was told right, its an 18" floor stander, with a crank up table.

If all goes as agreed, I pick this bad boy up tomorrow... :eyecrazy:

Boice Crane? My best guess, took a quick look on VM, they only show 15" presses.

it looks like the tag is still on the machine under the orange paint if you can't find a match in your books or online. maybe it has some information on the name plate still?

good luck and are you bringing a trailer with a fork lift or is owner loading it up for you? 1500 pounds??

I have no clue on the taper. I'm 90 % certain that with this type, the bore stroke is a full 6" though, compared to my "little" Rockwell's 4-1/2"

Guy claims it weighs 300 lbs though. He might be light on that...

No not even close. The manual I downloaded says 406 lbs approx. weight w/ Motor.

It will go into the Villager mini van! :pimpflash
