A mid 1940s Craftsman 80 I picked up last year. I intend to eventually restore it, but It works perfectly so I've been using it. Once I'm actually done with my projects I'll tear it down and clean it up. I'm going to paint it a nice crisp silver.

I've been meaning to add this for a few months now. Delta Rockwell 15-017. 1969 model based on serial number. Found on CL, a left over from an estate sale of a gentleman who repaired small engines. Found several other good "left over" things as well. Amazed me what folks passed up.

Basic wire brush and paint. New bearings and a new Jacobs chuck. It's also got a Wilton Boice table I scored on OWWM as the original was basically destroyed. Not a perfect restoration but it's already back in use. Up next, I have to complete my 1945-ish Walker Turner DP900 bench top…

Sorry about the iPhone photo.

Looks good, I am just starting on two old Craftsman 150's (one bench, one standing). Going to disassemble this weekend and send out the cast iron to get sand blasted and start the polishing of the bright bits.

Thank you for the warm welcome jabberwoki

And we continue with 2 more gear head drill presses.
You see from all the tools in the shop those are that i love the most.
Beautiful and different design from manufacturer to manufacturer.

So after a quick deal with the cousin he took the Nider and i bought the new member.

Not something fancy, just an Arboga G2508.

Regards
Kyriakos

Fellow GJ's, I inherited a 1930's 14 inch Delta Manufacturing Co. drill press several years ago when my father passed away. I wish I had taken the time to ask him about when and where he got his tools because I've researched some of them and found out that he had some really relished ones, like a Snap-On K60 top chest. He obtained this drill press before I was born and I can only presume he bought it new in the 30's but I don't really know exactly when he bought it. It doesn't have a model number on it but the main frame has a "DP 220" molded into it. It doesn't have the word "Delta" molded into the main frame or the front pulley cover like the other ones I've seen in postings but the round identification plate identifies it as made by the Delta Manufacturing Co. It is in perfect working order except I've noticed other Delta drill presses have two nuts on the depth stop whereas mine only has one. The nut has the tendency to move a little down the threaded depth stop bar and I wonder if it had two nuts or if one nut was the standard back in the 30's. I'd be interested in obtaining another matching nut if anyone knows of a source. PM me if you think you can help. Thanks.

Those nuts can surface on Eprey, and probably can be used from many different Delts models, Not sure what they bring.

Another possible source is OMW

Dominus: i thought you had to be from that side of the pond somewhere with all those nice different looking drill presses. are you from Sweden or where since your location didn't come up? it might help to have it there under your name so we can help you better if you ever need some.

that said you look like you are doing fine and welcome again to Garage Journal. did you paint the red under those tables and please show us with a few pictures or share the process if you did because they look pretty cool.

bets of luck with the drill press and i'm sure you'll have other quality things to post so keep them coming.

Hi everyone, here is my 1937-1940ish? Delta dp220. The last patent date on the sticker says 1935, its in great shape, added the green link belt, new power cord, cleaned off the grease and dust. Its a machine # 14-208, high speed, 1/2" chuck, 4 speeds, oh and no "arch of shame"! 1/3 hp "800" series motor, had plans to do a restoration someday but now we are moving and wont be taking her with us.:( Anyway took some pics of her, enjoy! (update: shes now listed for sale over in our GJ classifieds forum).

Thank you all for your kind words, I m from Athens Greece and for the last couple years i m trying to.... sorry this is for the introduction page, i don't want to hijack this thread.

Drivesitfar i do need a little help with my kurt vices, thanks for your offer...;).

Kyriakos

PS. This is the drill press i currently own. I promise to my wife that THIS IS THE ONE!!!
Not so old (2000) but a very heavy duty Strands Swedish (what else???) auto feed drill press. A joy to use especially for tapping. slow speed for in, reverse double speed to get out.

Hey "The Matrix", how did you come up with a model number 14-208 for your drill press? I posted a few postings before yours with a picture of my 1930's drill press and all of the information that I've been able to read indicates that they didn't put model numbers on them back in the 30's.

picked this up last week, with the vise. freebie!
guy said it was too big. he didnt use it, was in the way. its extremely heavy. all steel and iron. i have no idea the brand or year. my dad says it looks 60's.
it has a baldor 1/3 horse motor on it that looks like most china 2 horse.

stands about 3ft tall. i dont want to clutter my workbench with it. not sure if im going to make a stand or just slide it out when i need it.

Rockwell, Possibly a 15-017? Can you measure the distance from the center of the chuck to the column?

9four should be able to verify.

And you **** for getting that thing and the DP vise for free!

That DP deserves to get cleaned up for use! (At a minimum)

Pretty sure it is a Delta/Rockwell modern 14" bench machine, 14-007 or 14-008 depending on pulley set. 50's - 60's vintage. Sounds like the price was very right.

Looks identical to 9fours which he said was a 15-017 in its debut post.

Kinda, the giveaway that it is a 14" is the cutout window on the left hand side for quick spindle changes. The 15" version doesn't have that.

Hi, yes, your correct about delta not stamping a model # on the machine. However there are tons of old delta catalogs, manuals, books listed online at vintagemachinery.com. i personal downloaded abkout 80 pages of material just for my dp. Here is a pic of a delta catalog from the mid 1930s talking about their 14" floor dp's. It might be hard to see the numbers on the page, i just took a quick photo of my printout.

This is my little bench drill. Finally dug it out the other week with the intention of getting it up and running, and I'll be damned if I can find a single phase motor which works, so it's still not up and running at the moment.

It's a Pollard Corona. The above photo is the one taken by the seller when I bought it. It's the only photo I have of it offhand.

For the time being, (when I eventually manage to get a functioning, safe motor for it), I'm planning on running it as is. It's had a shonky paint job, looks a bit rough and the on/off switch panel has literally dropped to bits, (it's made from Mazak/monkey metal, so it will be getting a plywood panel and toggle switch put on there instead), but it's all freely moving and sound, so usable as is. Figured I'd do that one up later on instead of just yet.

First post but you had me reading and looking at drills for awhile now.
I found this site by looking for information on a drill I bought and can't find anything. It's a Sun Machine Heavy Duty drill press that works great. I had been looking for a older floor model and don't like the new ones. It has a Jacobs chuck in it and takes the biggest key I ever seen lol. Here's a couple pics of it, maybe it will work. I do all this from my phone.

Righteous, that is an Asian built DP and marketed under many, many different "brands" (My old DP was the same only a Taiwan built "Duracraft")

Commonly a 5/8 chuck 16 speeds (if it has the intermediate pulley) rotating/tilting table, table crank (usually), etc.

Righteous: looks like a working DP and should serve you fine. what i am impressed with is that it is not only sitting in the house but on the hardwood floor. you might want to get a rubber pad or a painter's tarp to put under it, but i do like your style.

welcome to Garage Journal and glad to have you. read a bunch, post when you can add something and enjoy the process.

By the way in case you hadn't guessed it yet. Outlaw just analyzed your DP without seeing the badge. he might be one of the guys we want to live to 200 years old so we can still tap his brain.

He had it right it is a 5/8 and table does rotate and tilt, thing weights a lot even broke down each part was almost a two man job. It's sitting it what I call my gun room as I do a lot of work on guns and such. It's sitting on a rubber mat now that it's in position. Very quiet machine. I have it in a room that used to be my sons bedroom, ain't no moving back home now lol

i put a gym in my son's old room and he moved back in to his sister's old room that my wife had for her sewing and stuff. on the good side he is working full time and going to school part time and at 23 i'm not entirely tired of having him around yet.

good luck with keeping the DP as is where is. nice work and glad to have you as part of the GJ gang.

Wife is drawing up new floor plan for house if we ever move and it's a 2 bedroom with a 8 car detached garage that won't have any cars in it. Dare to Dream??

I also did it looking only at the third pic posted.

I'll bet I've seen near a dozen of those a week on CL, besides seeing mine for almost 35 years!
