I purchased a new camera the other day and went up a ladder for a test shot in my shop, and thought it was pretty cool, the angle, light etc.

(Canon T2i - stock lens AF)

I know others probably have some cool shots of their lair.

Show us some shots and what equipment you took them with.

Lots of good basic tips if you search.

I always try to remember the back ground, it can take away from your pic.
Now try your shot again, but this time zoom in so you just see the car. Maybe move a few things out of the way and the car forward a couple feet.

Forced Perception is always fun. This particular pic was taken with the woman on the left lying on the beach with her feet toward the water and head kinked up. The woman on the right was sitting on the beach with her head tucked way down to her chest. I took the pic from the sand level about 10 feet behind them.

Night pics with long exposures (use a tripod) and a star filter are always fun.

Finally if you are so inclined, photoshop (or a similar program) can create some cool effects. This particular one is done with a color mask and color remove.

Not much of a picture taker, but I do love my photoshop.
This is my 52 that was stolen, right after I returned her home.

I don't know much in the way of technical wizardry. I just pay close attention to lighting and composition.

I don't have any artsy ideas. But I do know how to take the basic picture of my shop -- right down to the 3-minute window on a given day when the light outside will balance with the light inside the shop. I have one place where I can set the camera and have the whole shot set up -- so that's an easy decision. Then all I need to do is to check the time of the sunset on that given day. Six to nine minutes after sunset, the light is right. I can go outside, snap the picture in 10 seconds, and know that it's going to come out the way I want it.

This one is six minutes after sunset:

(They were taken on different days. There are no labels on the drawers on the red and black cabinet in the second picture.)

"Take your time".....this photo is EIGHT minutes long.. .it's FILM so this is only a scan from a print

It's December 19, 1999 STS-103 and the launch of the Shuttle Discovery on the way to repair Hubble

I was in Orlando....50 miles away from the launch pad.....the boosters fall away at the top of the curve( about +30 sec).....the rest of the shot is the Shuttle climbing higher and higher as it follows the curve of the Earth..... MainEngineCutOff....MECO is just over the coast of Africa....the entire launch reflected in Clear Lake

Notice the Bald Eagle remains nearly motionless and the star trails during the long exposure

Just got back from Mustangfest near Port Aransas, Texas, on Mustang Island...
...I took 1st Place in my class and longest distance award too...what a trip!
Took these shots holding a tripod fully extended, high over my head as high as I could extend my arm, using a 10 second timer...

Of course, the wife drove down with me...in her own Mustang Coupe and took first in her class too!
3,000 miles roundtrip X2...that a whole lot of gas and lodging...these pictures, for me...do have a price but the experience was..."Priceless!"
All in all a great vacation!!!
The brightly colored Mustangs in a neutral background, really "POP"!

It's really all about telling your story and your passion....I love beach pictures!!!!

Standing a top the world trade center in 1981. Only one of the towers had a observation deck. Just to the left you can see the other tower thats how close they were. looking at the picture it looks like you could jump right over the railing if you wanted but that wasn't the case if you did jump you would have landed on another deck about 10 feet down where they had barbed wire fence so there was no way you would be able to jump off the top of the building to end it all.
I was working for company called Bonland in NJ at the time.

Just a few things I have done over the years. Man, I wish I still had time to shoot!

That's definitely a picture worthy of framing and keeping. In a few short years the upcoming generations will only read about it in History books but you had the experience to stand on top of history. And to think a large plane crashed into it underneath where you are standing. I don't think there would be a day that I wouldn't think about that. I would get it framed though and make sure it gets handed down through the family.
