an old meddings - bought from a fella who got it from the orkney isles GPO workshop when they sold up.

It had a sticky star arbor when i got it and required serious force to drill - the chuck seemed to rotate straight when i got the dial gauge on it so set about stripping it down , the star arbor shaft spins on 2 nylon bushes and at some point someone had filled that area with oil of somekind - which caused the arbor bushes to swell.

stripped them out - removed all the excess oil - looked like motoroil tbh and machined the bushes back out to the shaft OD and reassembled - gave a good feed back but smooth movement - and its been fine since.

What a weight - had to use my engine hoist to get it out my van onto the bench.

Have fitted a modern jacobs chuck into the morse taper head and a press vice onto the drill plate - which polished up grand with oil and a rag and rewired the internals. One day i might strip it fully and give it a lick of paint but for now im too busy to pimp my tools - some crackers done on here though.

Here are pictures of my drill press. It is a 20 inch Delta Rockwell. I got it free from the company I worked for about 10 years ago. It had a 3 phase motor on it. It has been setting in the shop until I retired on 12/31/13. I made a motor mount for it and put a 1.5 horse motor on it that my son gave to me from the company he worked for. It was brand new and they were going to throw it away because it did not fit anything they had. I spent $21.00 dollars on bushings to make the pulley fit on the new motor. So I have a whole $21.00 in it. Should have done this years ago. It works great.

There's some cool stuff on here, love the old tools. Here's mine, it's a Rockwell, not sure of the year though, please feel free to offer me some insight if you can. It came from my aunts neighbor, he was a wing commander in the war, never talked about it though and I never learned much until he died. Anyway, he was the guy to go to for anything, hardware, tools, whatever. Many times I was told "go see the Wing Commander." His daughter and son in law were going to order a dumpster for it all when they cleaned out the garage and my aunt convinced them to have a garage sale. Well when all was said and done this was left over when I was visiting a couple weeks later and I got it for nothing and use it all the time. Even came with a machinist vice. The table has 4 holes in it and knowing Wing Commander Gibb there was a jig that fit them. I haven't added any, even the dimple that's there. It's exactly the way I got it. Also came with this book which has been my only reference to estimate a manufacturing date. Thanks for looking!

Here's my DP ... Nothing great til you see the table!

I got tired of swapping out my wood table for other clamps/vices.... Now I go from wood table to cross slide vice in 5 seconds. Awesome.

Not all that impressive compared to all the listed rebuilds but this past week rebuilt the top end of my bench Delta DP350 variable speed pulley drive (known to fracture) with NOS parts from Renovo Tools. Deburred the motor shaft with 400 wet paper + some flat file work at set screw marks + assembly high temp bearing grease.. till the sheaves would slowly slid down under weight.. perfect!

Topped it off with new German made Rohm Prima 1/2 inch "Jacobs ChucK" replacing the "other Delta chuck".

The concentricity went from total .009" TIR at the bit to .003" by my Starrett indicator. Decent I suppose for a Delta bench drill press.

The top end went from sounding like ##!?bang clang bump bump clang #!*#! to uuuMMMMMM

Hi every1 just wondered if some one could help me, I have a bench drill with TB NO14 on it, it was my granddads who had before my dad was born in the 50s who possibly got it from his dad so its at least 70 years old prob a lot older.

Just wanted to know if any1 knew what brand TB no14 is. got it on ebay but want to know more about it.

Don't know the exact dates of birth of these 2 machines; the Buffalo 18 I just picked up off craigslist for $75. Her little sister, the Buffalo 15, I've had for a while. The 15 spent a good part of its life at Greenfield Tap and Die, and probably where the OSHA approved guard was fabbed up. Both need rewiring and the requisite strip/repaint/lube procedure that we are all so familiar with

It has some minor issues, but for the price it would be a nice machine.

Thanks for the info. What minor issues do they normally have?

I read a little bit about some company corporate changes that started and then quality went down. I believe that happened after the peace sign logo(who knows how long it took them to use up product before the change)

The one in your ad just has a few : parts. Such as the motor's tilt, bent handle (may have been used as a press?), the chuck doesn't look right.

But, if you need a drill press it is still a good deal, unless there are some un-shown issues.

Here's a Delta I already posted in another thread. I got it this weekend for $40 at a yard sale. Mostly it was the golf balls on the handle and the little guy on top that made the sale.

X2, look that one over very carefully, looks like the belt guard might be bent too, maybe it fell over? Pretty sure it's a 3 PH motor, which may or may not matter to you.

My Craftsman King Seeley restoration. $60 off CL, new quill bushings, cleaned up, repaint, one of them linked belts from HF which really calmed it down. Wanted it to replace my Chinese craftsman on the bench that does light quick jobs. But this table is a pain to move around. I seem to move it a lot on my other one, and this one is tough to move around for fine adjustments. Perhaps some lube on it may help. Love the look of it near my vintage vises of the same color.

The first picture is my Atlas No. 74 floor DP. DOM: 1948. I bought it used around 5 years ago. Currently it's my daily driver, but it's scheduled to be restored this summer. The third picture shows a mock-up of an intermediate step pulley that I built to reduce the speed when drilling metal. I really love the art-deco style, the overall size and capacity of this little press.

The second picture shows a C-Man 101.2314 floor DP. DOM: 1952. I bought this used about 5 months. It features the Vari-Slo speed attachment and a table lift. Currently, I'm replacing the motor bearings, belts and power cord. Although I love the styling and accessories that this DP has, I plan to resell it after I remove the table lift for use on my Atlas DP.

Powermatic 1200, bought at a school auction for $250, probably 60's vintage, good ole USA iron. 1 hp 3 phase, running off a VFD with infinite speed adjustment, reverse, jog. I plan to add an RPM readout. I changed all the bearings, cleaned the table, sand blasted and painted.

I'd live in a cardboard box before I got rid of it, it's that good.

Here is my Clausing 1770 variable speed that I bought for 200 dollars. I replaced all 5 bearings and 2 delcron bushings in the pullies, sandblasted and painted base-coat clear-coat. It is a dream to operate compared to the China ones I've had in the past.

Here's my drill press, it replaced my benchtop Delta, I paid $30 for it, it spent most of it's life at the Boeing Plant in Wichita Ks.

No I didn't, it was $30, I don't think anyone at the auction wanted to move the thing, and my State sander is just a 15"

New to the forum and new to the whole computer/posting process so please excuse me if I have done it wrong, I love old iron and here is one of the latest additions to my shop. !897 Rockford Drilling machine made in Rockford Il. before the companey Changed to C. F. Barnes in 1907. M3 taper with 6 speeds and auto down feed 2'' hole capability.

got this at an estate sale yesterday for $75. Craftsman model 113.213780 with a Jacobs 633c chuck. Everything works fine, including the light bulb out the bottom, but it does need to be cleaned up. Think I'll look for a spare belt.
