This is the most recent picture I have (I'm at work). I have replaced the fence system with hardwood and Kreg aluminum rails on both sides of the miter saw with permanent measuring tape and flip up stops. It is an extremely useful setup for my needs.

Nice set-up, and great workmanship but aren't you worried about sparks from the chop saw ruining that window?

It's right next to the material storage so I normally grab an 18" x 18" piece of plywood and set that behind it. So far so good.

The roller cart actually started out life as a place for a 40" Cman bottom box. I added some bracing and a top. I use my roller stand to support long pieces when I cut them.

Couple of recycled cabinets on a 2x4 base. Double layer mdf top edgebanded with some solid wood. I made the fences from 3/4" melamine. Standard "t" track on the fences for stops. Works well for my Hitachi 10" SCMS.

Mortiser stores below the SCMS.

Dust collection "corral." This design allows the saw to tilt and bevel to the maximum and still keep the dust captured reasonably well with my 5hp cyclone powering the system.

Just built one over the last week.

I took some old dark brown cabinets out of the old single car garage, painted them black with Rustoleum Cabinet transformer, and then clear coated them.

Added an 8 foot, 3/4" thick oak plywood top (along with 1x4 bracing under the ply) for a work area. Cut out a 2'x2' square in the middle for the miter saw and then built the framework to hold the saw via a lower platform.

Used a piece of 1/4" oak plywood to cover the lower platform plywood and added 1x2 oak trim pieces all around. Also added cabinet hardware matching the other hardware in the shop.

IMG_0219a_zps8935d03d.jpg

Sanded all the oak and then four coats of poly.

Still have to bolt down the saw. The metal base is exactly aligned with the wood top. I was even shocked that it was perfect.

Will use it as a small woodworking area and storage for woodworking tools. Trying to separate the mechanical area/tools of the shop from the woodworking/tools part.

That's really nice ptgb! I just have my saw on a folding portable stand. Serves it's purpose I suppose. I rolled it out twice this week into the yard for some work I was doing on our deck.

I just can't bring myself to give up the floor space for a permanent station. Yet.

I cantilevered mine off the wall to give me lots of room for lumber and scrap underneath. I also left open spaces across the entire front edge where I frequently stash blades, notebooks, tape measures, etc.

My fence is a 2x4 that I jointed flat and hand scribed measurements onto. It could definitely be more perfect, but I do most of my precise cross cuts on the table saw anyways.

The top is white hard board and has taken a beating and still has a few years of life left in it.

edit: I left over 8 feet to the left of the blade and over 6 feet to the right. It is very rare that I am unable to break down stock at this station - the only instance I can think of is a carpentry project recently where I was taking 16 footers down to 14 feet 2 inches.

edit 2: height of the station matches the height of the table saw surface.

Nice setup. You got lucky that things lined up. I guess the miter saw platform should be designed lower than needed because the miter saw can be shimmed to make it higher. But if it the platform were too high, it's gonna be a little tougher to line things up.

Damn you guys, damn you all to hell. :(

Well I will post my miter saw so that the rest of us who have a sucky setup won't feel SO bad. :(

This $100 POS in the back there. I'm ready to upgrade. I don't think I could do a permanent mount like that though.

Built my Miter Station for stage #1 of my garage to shop remodel. I figured it would make the rest of the renovations easier. I put a 12' Kreg Trak and Stop on the left side. I still need to install the Kreg trak on the small right fence, and raise/level the Makita Cut Off Saw.

I incorporated my compound miter with my radial arm saw. Both share a common rip fence.

I 'can' cut up to a 16' board..

I don't have a pic, but we did a hood style dust catcher with a void behind the saw. A Rubbermaid roughneck trash can fit underneath so that all the small scrap and dust that did not go into the collection system simply fell into the can. This was in a production environment. Melamine covered fence and base with aluminum tracks for stops, featherboards and other accessories.

i have a similar setup! great for what it is - it's portable & supports decent length boards. i don't use it enough to have a dedicated spot in my garage though.

here is my project from a couple of years ago. I wanted to make it mobile so I could roll it out side closer to the work on my house.

A "station" for a miter saw?
I have never even considered dedicating permanent space for it.
My DeWalt 12" sliding compound miter saw goes on a shelf, and the DeWalt leg stand for it hangs on a wall. When I need it, I get it out.
My sawdust goes airborne as mulch for all of my neighbors lawns.

Here is mine. Let me know if you have questions. My shop vac is for dust collection and fits in the cabinet to reduce noise.

Several years ago I came across a Craigslist ad for some Wall Mounted Restaurant Tables for $10 each. These 3 became my Miter Saw Station.

I need ideas for a miter saw station in my garage. I have a sliding Milwaukee 6496. I have seen this thread:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=171263

but I'm looking for something a little more permanent I'd like to put against a garage wall. Please show me your miter saw stations.

Apologies if there's already a thread. I couldn't find out. Thanks.

Go to www.newtonwoodcraft.com/blog. its the second post down. Enjoy :)
