Reviving a thread with my current portable set-up. The box is a small Rubbermaid from the 90's that came in a full sized Rubbermaid box. The clear case fits 3/8" and 1/4" sockets and spark plug sockets greatly. Even fit a pair of gloves in there. This stays with me at all times, if I need anything else (breaker bar, impact wrench, ectera) I'll grab from the garage and toss into a tool bag.

Somewhat fully loaded hobby shop at home, a small top box at the folks....This is the carry-all in the back of the car. Enough weight for side jobs like this lol!

My go to box. Older Craftsman that has most of my stuff I use regularly. It sits on an old A/V cart I got from my workplace.

Nice set up. Did you pick the wrench sizes with a specific job in mind?

Coach

Thank you. Apologies for the delay, I just saw this.

Yes, those are duplicates from a set I have and I bring them for certain sensors, battery terminals, and whatever else I need. I recently added 2 extras I have - a box end 8/9mm and a 10/12mm.

Took me a while but I finally found a copy of the copy of an Assistent (on the left). Oddly a week later I found the copy (a Hory). Interestingly the copy being obviously of lower quality has chromed metal knobs, and folding stanchions.

This is a fairly large Powr-Kraft box I rescued from the thrift store a few years ago. Easily holds an 18" breaker bar, which some of my previous boxes wouldn't do.

Killed some Covid quarantine boredom putting together a new grab and go box so I can stop raiding my home garage before heading trackside or to friends garages. box is a 4 drawer cheapo from tractor supply @ reasonable $55, much thinner gauge then craftsman rally boxes but at the price point who can complain. I added the chest handles. Innards are harbor freight kit mostly, less worry about things going missing that way. Surprised myself with just how much i got in there.

For the lid clips i just mounted some socket rail clips and broom clips on strong magnets, worked a peach and can move things around when load out changes.

I did chest handles like that on a carry box. It was packed full and getting pretty heavy. The handles made it much easier to lift out of a pickup bed or set on a bench top.

this is the box i take out of my service truck

If you don't mind my asking, who makes that tool box? I've seen it being sold by Teng Tools in one of their tool sets, but I haven't seen it sold by itself. It looks like a clever design that I would like to give a try.

the only one of this type i have found is the teng tools.
You could probably order one from Teng tools uk www tengtools.com/r/gb/en/Tool-Storage/Lockable-Barn-Style-Tool-Box-TC450 .
the plastic tray i feel is junk so i added some tool holders to the sides

This has been one of my favorite topics on GJ. Love the mobile setups. Its always interesting to see what people choose to use in a limited space.

Thank you for the reply. Maybe I'll try Teng Tools USA first to see if they willl sell the box by itself. I like your idea of adding little holders on the inside.

I really like this setup. My current box is too deep, I hate having to dig for tools. These small drawers seem like a great solution. I seen a new box and tool migration in my future!

Colin Chapman would approve. Nice setup!

Picked up this old Beach box in very nice condition (handles could use some polish but otherwise very clean) thought was to load it with Canadian made hand tools only, but that proves to be an endeavor, due to the lack of covid-19 garage sales in this area (buying new would be nice but equally unrealistic due to price)

Right now it's just holding some overflow tools like mini pliers, files and putty knives.

3-Drawer Mobile set up I use to work on cars away from the main tool box. Lots of years to get this to where it is now. I also use 1/2” impact set, bit set, wrench rolls and pliers rolls when in the field, not pictured.

I have tried the all metal boxes, but every bump creates a heck of a racket. So about 7 years ago I got this bag for Christmas and have not looked back. It goes everywhere. Many junk yard trips to hunt german car parts. My only complaint is the weight. A lot of the time it weighs more then the part I went to get.
Tools are Craftsman wrenches and mostly HF sockets. The best weight / space saving thing i have found yet are the telescoping ratchets from HF. The 1/2" drive one has totally eliminated the need for a separate external breaker bar for me.

I picked up this Snap On KRA-65 a year or two ago but haven't taken the time to clean it up, cut liners and fill it up. Now I have it kitted out for servicing my dirt bikes when I head out to the country for a few days at a time. I keep the box in the truck or cabin, I don't mean this is a "on the bike" setup! This little box packs a big punch. It's surprising how much can fit in there!

My to go setup is primarily an extended version of my roadside kit and it's usually for hitting the junkyards. I have a packout box that is about half filled with my standard set, and half is available for specialty tools. This trip was light duty with maybe a steering wheel:

20230424_105704.jpg

Wrench roll is custom made by my wife to fit the finest Pittsburgh and miscellaneous junk wrenches, Companion tool holder zips open and I have repurposed it with stuff I've since upgraded from in the home box. These two live in my car full time, and it's all stuff I don't care about destroying or getting stolen:

20230424_110032.jpg

Other stuff on the table there are picks from my tool cart to make things easy because I have room, although I should add the hex keys to the standard kit.

When I'm not going junking, the packout box holds a foam insert for my general purpose power tool loadout, and the wrench roll and companion zip up go back to the car emergency kit:

An OT question regarding your toolbox .... in the center portion of the box (toward top of pic) there is a tool partially visible that looks kind of like a small ice tong (or a really demonic tooth extractor!) .... what is it?
I have the same / very similar, great for loosening rad / heater hoses

Dude that ‘ little box’ is dialed
Assuming you're talking about mine, thank you. But as dialed as it looks, I still find things I wish I had done differently. I also find spaces to fill. For example, I recently stuffed a set of VIM universal crows foot wrenches in one of the wrench drawers.
