Here my portable I recently put together. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but its a real space waster set up like this. I will probably end up yanking the foam out and go with the traditional throw everything in there method. The top of the box has everything else just thrown in.

I finally got my box finished that inspired me to start this thread. This will be used exclusively for my motorcycle racing so it is catered to that. I still have to add some T handles and a good tire gauge.
It is a 4 drawer "rally" type box from tractor supply.

First I added side handles to make it easier to carry and replaced the loose rivets holding the top handle with bolts and large washers.

Then it was time to organize. I used Kaizen foam and these tools for everything.

Bottom Drawer. 3/8" ratchet and breaker bar, 8-19 deep sockets, 22 and 32 shallow sockets, extensions, 1/4" ratchet, 5-15 shallow sockets, thumbwheel ratchet, feeler gauges, safety glasses, and super glue.

Drawer 2. 6-19 wrenches, 8" adjustable, spoke wrench, spare 8, 10, and 12 wrenches, allen wrenches, knives, scissors, and spare blades.

Drawer 3. Diagonal cutter, needle nose, tweezers, line clamp, safety wire pliers with wire, small bolt cutter, and 8" tongue and groove pliers.

Drawer 4. Steel and nylon punches, 8oz ball peen, 16oz dead blow, 90 degree screwdriver, and 3 slotted and 2 Phillips screwdrivers.

Top compartment. Brake cleaner, chain lube, zip ties, gasket sealer, epoxy, anti seize, electrical tape, duck tape, hand cleaner, gloves, towels, multi-meter, Loctite, lighter, tape measure, headlamp, maglight, pens, sharpies, and ear plugs.

I am very happy with how it turned out!

This is just awesome.

I put together My portable box and filled it only with tools that I used a lot. I had to take some tools out of it because it is too heavy to carry. It still weighs 70 pounds with the tools I have in it.
I have had the box for over 30 years. Before that it was My grandfathers. My mother told me that He had it when she was in High School, and she graduated in 1960, so I'm thinking it is over 50 years old. It was grey when I got it. I have painted it a couple of times

Here's my portable box, a little 3 drawer gearwrench, its made up of spare tools mostly craftsman usa and channellock
P1020161_zpsdfd6d6b5.jpg

I installed some little rubber feet on the bottom since I put it up on desks or finished floors and don't want to damage those surfaces.

Top is a tool rool of a "full' metric and sae set(1/4" - 1" & 8-22mm) I've replaced some of the wrenches with my old channellock set, some random pliers and safety glasses

this is my carry box. its small, but it's stuffed w/ most anything I might need for old cars. I put it together just to carry for my classic cars.
its only SAE. its saved my bacon a few times, but it's been more handy to help w/ other guys cars on road trips.

That's the "portable" socket box.

I am building a box to put the rest of the stuff in...

Portable, to me, is being able to load stuff up in the truck and go somewhere to fix something.

Extremely portable is the Leatherman Wave on my belt and the 4 in 1 screwdriver in my pocket.

A leather is an awesome tool. It should be a requirement in order to become a member of this forum. Lol.

I have a Leatherman. Cool piece of equipment, but I can't say I've ever used it though, so don't see much value in them. Would rather use a proper tool .....

I feel the same way. I have a Wave and a Flair, but I never use or carry them.

Many people have offered to buy the Flair. I bought it for a trip to Europe. I probably broke a few laws by carrying it.

My "roadboxes". I do an assortment of everything....plumbing/pumps, electric, automotive in my "spare" time. The Craftsman 3 drawer started out as a 50 something piece Craftsman 1/4" & 3/8" set I bought in the early 80's......so most of the sockets are 30 plus years old and have served me VERY well. Been filling in with Williams USA and Kobalt branded Williams USA.

More gets thrown in depending on the job.....but this is what I carry everyday.

I have this box and have been very impressed by the quality for the price. It was a bit cheaper when I got it a few years ago.

Holy pic resize, Batman!

I've looked at Tactix roller boxes at one of the Farm and Ranch places when I go to central Oregon. They look (to my untrained eye) to be decent budget boxes.
Dunno if I can get past the matte black finish on them though.

All my boxes are in storage until I get back to work (finishing more school by May, hoping to be done with it all by then). In the meantime, working out of this little guy, a bag of M12 tools, and a CM socket set.

Can you tell me if that top area is 3" or more deep? not by the tray, but in front of it. That would be awesome if you could!!! Can't get the local HomeDepot to get one for me to check out unless i buy it, kind of a waste.

great box and tools

I really like the KTM Beta box and Moose portable box. There was box posted in the show me your tool box thread that was great. The first four are of another members box that I think is well thought out. The last three are of my grab and go bag. The bag has changed due to wear but the tools are all the same.

Posted this over in another thread, but my Snap-On KRA65C. Mostly threw it together as a grab and go for line maintenance, but I use it everyday in the hangar as well.
