Still waiting for the seller to contact me once he takes it out of storage.

Anyone know what this stand is from?

That may be a Delta stand, sitting upside down.

It's not upside down, the picture is deceiving. I just picked it up. Here's a better picture. The base is 12x12. The top is 9x10. 34" tall. 90 pounds

It's too bad this grinder is a 3 phase.

Picked up this gorgeous heavy Hammond Grinder today at auction. 3 phase but it has the Baldor shields and a separate internal dust collection system. What did I pay for this 400lb beauty? $40 bucks!

Can't wait to get it home.

Here's my General Hardware grinder, turned into a buffer with tapered spindles. I built the stand from plans in the November 1971 issue of Popular Mechanics.

Finally got around to finishing up the restoration of my Baldor. New bearings and a good cleaning and paint.

I found a Baldor 7312 B dual speed grinder on CL today.

Edit: The seller said it came out of an Illinois Tool Works (ITW) Red Head factory near New Buffalo, MI.

A nice drive to the west side of MI and it rode back with me. It has a Baldor water cup and an extra CI water cup from a discarded stand.

This guy may be headed to my brother.

Thanks for looking.
Your Craftsman's will be jealous, I like the Baldor's use one just about everyday.

Hey guys, these grinders just popped up for government auction a couple hours away from me, I like the look of the Rockwell with the stand. I only have a new master craft grinder, so not very familiar with any older ones, you guys think they're worth the drive if I can get them cheap enough? 888f3667f6a93c592df5de172e7f3f93.jpgdb1c40f0eb13f5baef4bf6f521d6c3ba.jpg33696c51a61746e955d566623cce3562.jpg58847cc99b0f4e2fbdcbc04558c9e605.jpgac8cd63123c679c08ece9e5889caf0eb.jpg60d14524270677efc563005c0bde7127.jpgdd2a89dd02bcd6cad9ec31eb30cabd46.jpg

That Rockwell carbide grinder is a cool machine. It has tilting tables, it's reversible, and that stand looks beefy. Depends on how much carbide you need to grind I suppose?

The stand might be worth the trip a alone.

The Foley grinder looks to be missing most of the attachments (you'll notice there are no guards/spark arrestors/tool rests). There were several versions of these grinders made for sharpening specific tools - this is a saw teeth grinder. I believe Doerr made the motor for that unit - it'd make a great grinder for wire/buffing wheels. If the price was right, I would scoop it.

I've never looked closely at a carbide grinder but have always been curious if a Multi Tool or similar belt grinder attachment could be fit to one?

I'm on my phone. Is the Rockwell reversible & what is its RPM?

It is the reversible model - 3450 RPM.

Thanks for the info gentlemen!

I was thinking I could use the foley for buffing wheels, but really have no use for a carbide grinder. I was wondering the same thing about that Rockwell, if I could find any attachments for normal grinder wheels or a belt like you said Voi.

Like you said MissleBear, such a cool looking grinder and stand it'd be hard to pass up! The auctions end on the 7th so I'll see what happens to the price. The Rockwell is $20 and the foley is $10 but no ones bid yet, I suspect the action will begin a few minutes before the auctions end.

Both quality grinders, I have a Foley just like that, found it at a yard sale for $10, needed a new cord. If you can get the carbide grinder cheap, could flip it for a profit I'm sure.

I decided to give my old Baldor buffer a fresh look. I picked this up several years ago for $40 bucks. It's been rebuilt at least once before I owned it. Aside from a bad paint job it ran like a TOP . I have no idea on the vintage of it but if anyone else does it would be greatly appreciated .The lighting wasn't the best but the color is hammered gold.

I did a search for "bench grinder" and came across this thread. Okay, you guys have convinced me that the vintage Made in USA bench grinders are the best available. Here is what I bought yesterday.

Bench-Grinder-030.jpg

Bench-Grinder-015.jpg

Bench-Grinder-002.jpg

It's missing the spark guards and shields, but the tool rests are very solid and the cord is in nice shape. It's very heavy. The motor is smooth and quiet with lots of power.

I see very few posts on bench grinders from The Standard Electrical Tool Company, so I suspect this brand isn't very common. I could tell it was well made when I saw it. I was sold when I heard it run. It was listed on CL for $50 and I didn't even try to negotiate. Does anyone here have any information on this brand?

There are 1/8 inch pipe plugs in the end caps above the bearings. I removed them and stuck a wire in to see what was down there. There was a greasy material that resembled ear wax. Are these plugs for lubrication or just for inspection?

I guess I should remove the end caps and clean and pack the bearings with fresh grease.

Just acquired this 8" Stanley 257 grinder for $10 untested.

Surprisingly & luckily this grinder is Puuuuring as well and as quietly (quite impressively) as my good Baldor and both Stanley #600 eye shields with lamps are working. Came with the cool cast iron water cup mounted on the right side. Looks complete with both spark arrestors, grinding posts and the wheel covers both have oval dust exhaust ports out the back just like my baldor.
115v 1/2 HP is plenty strong but this thing weighs a ton, almost broke my back moving it. Weighs about the same as my 1 hp Baldor if not more. Takes forever to stop spinning.

Does anyone recognize the type & make of the grinder post/sharpening jig on the left wheel?

I wonder how hard it would be to find the attachments for it?

Yes it does. Do you by chance have any attachments for it? Curious what they look like?

No attachments, just as you see. I have restored it since that picture but haven't bought 7" stones for it yet. It turned out to be one of those projects that got put to the side.
Hopefully someone will have suggestions or pictures ?

If there are any hand bench grinder collectors out there, I'd like to identify the grinder in the manual and the grinder to the right of it.

Grinder_zps2jc1fvll.jpg

Could the initial "GJ" and "S" on the thumbnut mean anything?
