A little progress on my welding bench yesterday. I got the casters bolted on and mounted the cabinet underneath. The cabinet is 36" wide x 20" deep x 24.5" tall. It is a double walled office storage cabinet I bought from the salvage auction at work for $20 (retails for $620 new at Herman Miller). Had to unbolt the base from the bottom to fit underneath, and cut up the base to weld into the table for mounting. I left room on the right side for a shelf or weld rod storage. More pics later as I get the vise mounted, clean it up and paint.

Nice table, and well done!

Back in the early 90's One of Jeff Healey's roadies came to see me about a problem he had.( I have friends all over )
Many of Jeff's fans were complaining about not being able to see him performing well, because he played his guitar while sitting.

This roadie wanted to offer his boss a gift. A guitar stand so everyone could enjoy him performing, even more.

Together we came up with a basic design. An Alu. plate about 2' x 3' on the ground so Jeff would feel where he was standing and be able to move around a little. Also a removable and adjustable guitar holder.

I never met the performer, but I got to fit some really pretty guitars to my stand..

My roadie friend was terrified of Jeff's reaction when he would try to convince him to try it out.

Guess he liked it, I made a second stand shortly after.

I had a bunch more pics of all kinds of stuff, but my phone died an untimely death, so these are the only ones I have at the moment. As soon as I have better lighting (daytime), I've got a few decent little projects I did for my home shop that I'd like to share.

Built a keystock holder today for one of my customers. The Durham cabinets that I have access to only hold 10 sizes of keystock. Thought i would build my own for 12 sizes.
I don't have a good picture of it painted. Here is a picture of it just out of the blast cabinet.

Ever noticed that a TIG torch is like a paint brush? Some make fine art and most just paint houses.. Beautiful work there !!!

Horseshoe Firepit

Just tacked together, nothing uber demanding or pretty- I mean, I built it to burn stuff in. I will be welding up a windbreak out of 1/4" sheet soon, that will actually require a little bit of real welding :D

Josh, that's fantastic! It's always nice to see creative repurposing, and that has a great look. I bet you could sell all you could make.

Thanks, DarkMonohue! I love welding with old horseshoes! We have coat hooks, paper towel holders, boot scrapers, trivets/pot stands, and gun racks made out of horseshoes all over the house. It's a gateway drug....

Here's a side gate I built 15 years ago. Amateur welding to so no close-up shots.

1.5" square tubing was used to make the gate frame. I had two pieces of tubing bent by a metal shop. I cut it and flipped one end to create the inflection point. Duplicate pieces are visible in the picture for the other half of the gate.

Pre-made 3-inch rings were welded to some 3/4" square tubing to create the bottom portion of the gate.

More 3/4" square tubing is precut in preparation for making the bottom portion.

Gates were brought to a shop where they were sandblasted and metalized (the grey finish). Metalizing puts a zinc coating on the metal to inhibit rust. The white paint is being applied as seen on this picture.

That's pretty cool!

Thanks.

I thought I would never see those things again. I had a partner back then, and when we split up he kept most the pictures of the stuff I did..
I had a mental flash of the project when one of Jeff s tunes played on the radio and googled him up. I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw it on the album cover!

Some Pic's of a trailer I made last winter. Hated my store bought one, as it was flexy and pulled like ****.
This tube frame one is stronger and lighter. And you cant tell its back there.!

I love custom trailer builds, what did you use to get rid of the mill scale?

I built this to replace the cracked stock piece. I used 1.875in diameter 304 stainless tubing. I used a very nice merge collector and some stainless bellows to compensate for expansion and movement in the exhaust system. The stock system used no form of flex joint. I also used a nice ball flange to connect the rest of the system to the cat. Toyota used a welded cat thus making removal difficult and replacement VERY expensive.

I tossed the stock cats (2) and used a modified S2000 three way cat. It is much more efficient than the stock cats and it is a larger diameter to allow for better flow. I expanded the tubing coming off the collector to 2.5in going into the cat and 3.0in coming out.

At some point in the future the stock exhaust is going away and I will build a nice stainless 3in system all the way out the back. Want to get a little better sound as well as some power.

I machined all the flanges from 1/2in thick 304 stainless plate and designed all flanges to use the stock sealing arrangement. I also made some new oxygen sensor flanges out of stainless to replace the ones on the stock system. This system puts the O2 sensor in a well protected location behind the body mount, no worries about knocking this one off or showering it in road grime. This system should out last the the truck.
