He's still about the bracing, so what do you think about this?



Sitting on it, the only thing that would catch my ankles were the "arrow heads" where the casters were inserted into the tube.

Going this route it's all one piece, is curved in more towards the center, and removes anything that was sticking out at each corner.

Going this route it's all one piece, is curved in more towards the center, and removes anything that was sticking out at each corner.

I may be being too cautious, but I imagine the center of the hoop nailing me right in the Achilles tendin while I’m scooting around. If I were forced to go with that type of design, I would put it on top, so it would be almost impossible for it to catch me.

If you really wanted to put the sharp edge away, you could simply turn them 90 degrees so the flat side faced out? I don’t know if it would look as good though?

The way you have it now looks really good.

Or like we talked about earlier, ad a strip to the front edge. As if you had made them from angle iron.

But your rendering really does look good the way you have it.

The way you have it now looks really good.

Flipping any part of it would be tricky.

Only thing I'd be able to bend are the ends for a 90, and that would still leave the parts between the legs as shown above.

Table is nearly empty due to the heat, so I'll top it off on Saturday and cut out a new brace to test fit - helps the stool hasn't been picked up yet as the customer lives out of town. It's all paid up though.

You may have misunderstood what I was saying about flipping them 90 degrees. Instead of the apex of the arch facing the center of the chair, it would face up. Like I said though, probably wouldn’t look as good.

Let’s get this straight right from the get-go.

I’M NOT A WELDER ….lol. But I’m trying to learn.

Bought a trash can tow thing from Amazon (I have a long steep driveway)

The design leaves something to be desired. I bolted it together per the directions…. Then welded the joints.

Where the arm bolts to the tow bar it looks like it would be prone to bending with a heavy can.

I’m gonna start by cutting gussets out of 1/8” flat stock and welding them in.

Well my initial estimate on how much I needed to lengthen it was a little off.

I didn’t take into account how much play there was in the way it goes over the ball. It’s not a real ball hitch like you would think.

Any way after I was “done” I had to go back and shorten my just lengthened arm.

Put a 3/8 rod inside the 1/2 square tube, end-to-end and plug welded it. Then I put 1/2 angle stock over the joint and welded that.

If nothing else I got some more practice welding and it turned out the way I wanted.

Kinda fun - even having to go back and shortening it.

My Wife has been dragging 2 Cans up and down the driveway for 15 years and the wheels are still there...and the Golf Cart can go 26 MPH. Now I know she hasn't driven it that fast.

Doing the math she has put 206.818 miles on those cans. They haven't even needed an alignment yet.

Not my problem. It’s the garbage man’s can. I went to HS with the guy that owns the company. I drink beer with him and have his cell number.

Yes, often the hole in the floor is cut round, and a pail is inserted (with the bottom cut out). I've also seen sheet metal used (looks like stovepipe, or house duct) but those are tricky because if you let the bait touch the metal, it's stuck (when it's cold out).

Also makes it tricky to get the fish once it's out of the water, since the fish gets heavier. There's aids for this (like the "fish elevator").

I've also seen people bank the shack all around with snow.

This isn't my shack, and I don't put through holes inside. Too drafty in a sleep shack, and too much hassle with little children falling through, or dropping things in.

The neighbor in back of the house next door is about 2 tenths back. He daisy chains all 3 barrels to & from the main highway with his Kubota. It makes a hell of a rumble when they're empty.

Good thing my new hose arrived early enough. Since I redid the backyard, the hose I was using was put on a reel so I had ordered a new one for front yard duty.











Won't serve much as a footrest, but that wasn't the goal.

Limiting lateral movement/flex was the goal and this achieved that.



I'll weld it up tomorrow morning or something when it's nice and cool.

Hoping I get a good picture when it's done but my customer told me he dropped off his stool to get powder coated Metallic Red.

I'm crazy stoked to see how it turns out.

Apologies if I've posted this before, I truly can't remember....but while we're doing the stool pic theme, here's mine.

I got fed up with my ad hoc stool (shown in the background). It was an old office chair, with a piece of padded plywood bolted atop a steel extension. Insofar as it supported my weight, it was "functional", but that's all I can say about it. I loved everything about the fancy Vyper stools....except the price. So I cleaned up some square tube, bought an Acme-threaded rod & nuts from McMaster, bought a barstool from a restaurant supply house, and some casters. All-in, about $150 or so.

Why 6 legs instead of the more-typical five? Don't know....can't say.

This was about a year ago or so...so far it works great!

I had to fabricate a provision on my kayak trailer to haul an additional one for my niece.

The two new 1-1/2" square T-posts are removable via (8) bolts for when I don't need to haul all three. I welded-on stainless-steel U-bolts on each end of the tee to hold the horizontal straps. I secured some high-density foam to the top of the tubing to provide both a friction surface, and to prevent damage to the bottom of the kayak.

I had a buddy build me a set of custom fenders, which I still need to get installed. That will likely be a "whenever the hell the weather cools off in NC" project...LOL.

Here's a kitchen Island/table I just made for myself. It's 36" tall, to match my counters. Base and crossmembers are 3x3 tube verticals are 2x6 with 3x3 angle welded to the top to fasten the top. The top is butcher block that came from Lowes its 25x48x1.5. For the finish on the steel, I hit everything with the HF SCT, and strip discs, then 60 grit and clear coat.

I really like this !! Simple looking with nothing ornate ,but not easy and looks perfect!

Bought a hydraulic press. Worked on it with the boy today. Stripped it down and welded on some scrap chunks of angle to widen the stance because it's getting 6 inch casters.

Also bought a transformer stick welder. Hadn't used it yet, decided this would be a good thing for the boy to practice stick welding.

Stuck it mostly outside and got it hanging level with the forklift.

Got it to this point today.

The bottom is gonna get solid shelf to hold all the accessory junk. It's already heavy as is. Glad we used the 6 inch poly/steel casters.

Finally made progress on my fab table leg project. This is something I've wanted to do since I've owned the table. The factory legs are really fat tube, and they're not mounted all the way to the corners, so it limits what you can fit under the table.

I was going to just use some smaller tubing but I had an epiphany while standing in Harbor freight one day, so I started collecting these trailer jacks every time they went on sale or I had a coupon.

Anyway, I had to fab the plates and weld them to the tube, but only after disassembling them and replacing the hand cranks with appropriately sized bolts. I ordered some inserts and swivel feet and installed them in the finished legs.

Anyway, I can now adjust the table from 26" to 44" high easily, but the best part is being able to nest my plasma table/welding tool box underneath.

Also tried to max out the shop as a friend came over to weld up a trellis he's working on. There will be 3 sections this size all end to end.

Speaking of big things in small shops, welded up the mounting tabs and finished the 12' shelf yesterday
