@LXCam I get it and you are playing it safe...as long as customer management holds out... you know how that can go.

2032 ? Damn dude I thought you were wanting to wind down for retirement ? But hey, if you can work, get well compensated and are in charge...

Ya I’ve done this work life thing entirely backasswards bud. Decades of running businesses and I’ve never been busier. 70hr weeks minimum been the norm for a long time and no it’s not worth it. I know how this sounds but I don’t do this for my company, I do it for my customers. I worked damn hard to create these relationships, I refuse to let them down. I’ve had that attitude for close to 40yrs, it ain’t changing.

But my day is coming soon. I won’t be seeing the close out of all this work. I just hope to have assembled a team to see it to fruition that follows my lead. And if not, we’ll f it - I’ll be retired anyway 🤗

So we can put a bow on this sumbitch.

By Wednesday evening the finishing touches were melted on and she was primered. It really needed to be finish painted but I just couldn’t pull that off so the guys did a parking lot spray bomb on it as it had to get installed last night.

Ok, at first I thought you were putting the cage over the box to protect it from a cart that isn’t tall enough to hit the box, now you’ve put it under the box and makes even less sense.lol

Its kind of like looking for your lost keys under the street light cause the lights better, even though you lost the keys in the dark parking lot across the street.lol

Alright, I’ve given it some thought before I hit the post button. Is it maybe to keep the cart far enough away from the wall so anything tall being carried on the cart doesn’t hit the box? I guess that would kind of explain it?

The only carts I’ve seen brought through here were short ones. But apparently they bring 6ft tall clothing carts around it also. Regardless it’s an 8ft wide tunnel, just how hard is it to miss a damn box ya’d think. Well apparently it’s hard as it already got hit on the slope side 🙄

Going to be some boys drooling over that thinking about making shanks out of it.
No doubt. I build a lot of one off stuff for this industry that I can’t share. There’s so much consideration into gauge, attachment methods, anti climb and ligature requirements that I drive my guys nuts with installation requirements. Much of it is spelled out in code and or spec, but still there’s a lot of gray area. I constantly have to remind these guys that you will install it per my detail and here’s why. They seem to forget that inmates have nothing but time on their hands to f with something for endless hours. And the last thing “we” need to get drawn into is a lawsuit over a product we installed that was used as a weapon and or escaped from.

Like most folks they probably tried to hit it. I had a building full of highly trained, certified, union operators, and they spent 24-7 pounding the **** out of my facility. How do you hit the sides and lower edge of a 30' wide, 20' high roller door with a 8' wide, 14' high vehicle? How do you rip the sides and/or roof off a 53' long trailer, coming through that door? And you can't enter the doorway until the door is totally retracted as there were barriers that wouldn't retract until the door was in position.

It takes skill. Hire union!

Making an accessory for the Brick--my new Vanagon--that won't make it go any faster or run better. I didn't intend to do a triple-pass weld, but I forgot to turn the heat up on the old Sparky, so pretty much it was either that or grind out all the original weld.

Looks kinda' low--but I'm lazy, so

About perfect! The vise is attached with captive nuts and wingbolts, because--I may have mentioned this--I'm lazy and carrying it as two pieces--not to mention stowing it--is much easier. Work smarter, not harder!

It's getting a couple of coats of Rusto Gloss Black right now, then into the oven--if it fits.

Nice work. Looks like its already been hit. We have strategically place guide / rub rails in some locations to prevent high G impact and reaction force

I've been helping my niece's boyfriend with his race car. His trailer really is a terrible POS. Someone had jack knifed into the jack mount on the tongue and poked a hole in the tubing. It also did not have proper safety chains.

Had my nephew plaz out 1/4" thick brackets to A. Cover the hole on one side. and B. Create nice double-shear safety chain mounts. I left the chain contiguous so we can adjust the length if need be.

Started in on building a 60’ tall tip down antenna for a local business.
IMG_6009.jpeg

Tip hinge point this far. The plates are going to get welded on top of the green pipes in the background. The galvanized tubing will make up 39’ of the height. A smaller pipe will go another 10’ and a piece of aluminum extrusion will go the remaining 11-12’

The base of the tip down tower is in place. Tue square tubing will be around 8” above ground level and there will be roughly 7’ of pipe under ground. The plan is to bring my miniex and dig a hole and fill it with concrete. I’m thinking a 5x5x7’ chunk of concrete should keep this thing standing.
IMG_6040.jpeg

Gonna put this strap and another one where the galv tube ends at the bottom by the ground. Also going to put a few pieces of angle iron on the bottom that’ll be buried in concrete. Gotta put a chunk of angle on both sides to keep the pipes from spreading apart. I will maybe put another strap in the center of the tower. Yeah. Good plan !! Thanks guys.

Made a pedestal to mount my plasma cutter on the MIG cart with material from my "scrap" collection.

It's been so long since I used my MIG helmet I had to replace the battery. I guess I kinda remember how to weld:

IMG_2648.jpegIMG_2649.jpeg

Good enough with a quick once-over with a flap disc, and some low gloss black:

I might be more motivated to use it now that I can just roll it, and plug in.

I feel like that would just collect and hold dirt, maybe even jam the whole thing up.
It might, it might not. I only have like $40 in it. If it doesn't work out, no big deal

If I get into a situation where I am dealing with a bunch of dirt, I can simply pull it out and set it aside. Power wash the cross tube when finished.

make sure it's got a way to hook a chain on the handle so you can pull it out if it's stuck.

I've already considered greasing the tube as a preventative measure.
I wouldn’t grease it, that will attract dust and gum it up quite quickly.
A piece of some UHMW would make it slide better but I guess you probably don’t have much clearance between the tubes.
What keeps it from sliding out while you’re bouncing through the pasture?

Probably not--but you can buy UHMW tape that's a few mils thick. I use it around the brewery. Also perfect for making non-marring bases for my Skilsaw and jigsaw--just put a couple of strips on the bottom of the base.

Stuff I have made over the years, these are items I made while in Bahrain with a AH-1 Cobra contract, I had a helper with the trailer and A-frame. The engine stand was for an extra BMW V-12 I had.
