OLd 90's Stihl 028 Super AV with a 16inch bar, I can run up to a 20inch if needed, but i mostly use it for cleaning up around the house, I love this thing, oil pump for the automatic oiler went out this spring and I just went today and bought a new oil pump, bar, chain and a new bearing for the clutch, forgot how much I love this saw...Guy at the parts store said when the 028 supers came out with the bigger engine in the smaller package he had a hard time selling the next size up , and these things rarely give any trouble, one of the best saws stihl has ever made...

I have never even changed the spark plug in this thing, just keep it clean and oiled, and use good gas and oil and it starts on the first pull everytime.

Those are good saws. I prefer Stihls, but got a good deal on a Husky 262. I run it with a 24 or 32 inch bar. I put some decent dogs on it and took off the useless tiny factory one.

I have a Stihl 028AVEQ (needs rebuild) and a 028AVEQ super great running saw. I repaired my Brother 031AV (bad ingition chip) runs great for a 30ish year old saw.

Can't beat a Stihl IMO, but Makita/Dolomars, Huskys, Jonsereds and are good too:thumbup:

I'm glad this thread was created. I'm looking for a good (and if possible, reasonably-priced) cordless chain saw.

Ive got a pair of Huskies.

An old 61, and my new saw, a 455 Rancher.

both are modified.

Hardy high performance saws, but both run like raped apes, and do me well.

A skip chain on the 455 handles firewood duty without breaking a sweat.

if you never have, you should change the fuel filter. it's a few bucks and cheap insurance. check the air filter too...

wal-mart bar oil is fine, especially since stihls oil like pigs. I use Mobil1 2stroke oil - it's great.

i have a couple 026s, an 046, an 066, a 660 and a 361. Oh, and about a half-dozen 011s that I need to sell...

Yea , guy informed me about the tank vent tube ,so I got one, when I went to remove mine it was in peices..so I'm sure all the lines could use replacing.there is some good deals on these saws on ebay, seems not much interest in a old 028 super one guy has one on there with low hours and he refurbed a few little things and he's asking 500 bucks BIN..lol good luck with that.

I like red saws. Currently I have a Jonsered 2041 with a 16" bar, and a 2171 with a 20" bar and a 32" bar. I'll try and post pics tonight after I go out to the shop. They both cut a lot of firewood!

1. tank vent is different than the fuel filter. you need to be a bit **** about fueling a chainsaw since proper oiling is dependent on proper fueling.

2. ebay is seriously whacked. you need to look for saws off-season and about 1-2 months _after_ hurricanes/major storms. and always ask for a picture of the piston & cylinder (pop off the muffler and take 2 pics).

I was looking at Stihl & Husky saws on ebay in July and August. They still seemed high priced at well over half the price of a comparable new saw plus shipping. Most people don't mention compression tests or have pictures of the pistion and cylinder. I was reluctant to even consider a saw from a hurricane region like Florida, Texas, ect.

I used to have a 16" Poulan & a Stil Farm Boss (026, I think). For what I need now and the money, I'll proably just get an 18" Poulan new from TSC.

Hi guys I'm new here and already see stuff like chainsaws! woo hoo! I'd like to say my .02 I run a tree service & have 7 Stihls. Thats my brand, however it really comes down to how you take care of the whole unit. Especialy the chain & bar. If you don't get the chain right it goes to mess up the bar. Then puts more stress on the engine & it just gets worse from there!

Had a 16" stihl, it was stolen. I bought a 20" 42 cc Craftsman, it puts the Stihl to shame, sorry to say. I have no clue who makes them for sears.

Husqvarna-AB manufactures chainsaws and other lawn care products for Craftsman. Many of the Craftsman saws I've seen at the Sears near me are identical to the Poulan Pro line.

I own a Poulan Pro 18" 42cc, and a Husqvarna 20" as well. Between the two I usually opt for the Poulan though, its far lighter and has incredible power for its engine and price. The tool-less chain tension system is wonderful too.

Ouch. Certainly I didn't mean it seriously - or personally. :(

haha, I know. I can get hers to take pictures, but not good ones, I don't know what the darn settings are, and it's 100% different than my old one.

There's nothing like seeing your cat go streaking by the tile floor holding the loop of your digital camera with it bouncing off each grout joint. Oh, that's after coming off the computer desk.:lol_hitti

044 sthil and a smaller Husky, both good units. I have used most of them, used Johnsonreds too until there was not a dealer, back in the days we used Homelites, about 5 cube inches and they worked well but dont compare to modern saws.

I have a Husky55 and a Remington Electric Pole Saw, now you might think the Remington is POS but let me tell you it's the best $89 I've ever spent.

Hi All. I just a craftsman 18 in chainsaw. What is everyone using for 2 stroke lube and Bar oil? Is there any difference in the brands? In the instructions it says i could use 30 weight oil for bar oil, anyone do this? Is all 2 stroke oil the same?

Thanks

No, not all 2 stroke lube is the same. Mobil makes a synthetic racing oil. it's something like $7 per quart. 50:1 and you'll be fine.

Don't use motor oil for bar oil, especially not used motor oil. You're flinging this all over the woods (and yourself) and breathing it in. I get Bailey's bar oil when it goes on super sale by the case. Or I use the lime jug carp from Wal-Mart. The Bailey's smells better. If you can't see oil coming off the tip of the bar when you blip the saw, turn your oiler up.

The real shizzle for bar oil is running canola. - depending where you live, how often you cut and how clean you are.

My Digi-Cam is on the fritz at the moment but I have a Craftsman 18" 40cc Chainsaw. I was cutting down a 20' Holly over the summer. I had a nice Sawz All with a long wood cutting blade figured that would be fine for this. But after 15-20 minutes to drop the tree and seeing it laying on the ground with all its BRANCHES I headed to SEARS!!!
