These anvil pruners were well taken care of. I like they way they buried the spring within the pivot. It's fun to read through the 15 page pamphlet that's full of pruning tips and see how they stress the many benefits of that kind of maintenance. The copywrite suggests that they are from the mid sixties.

A garage sale find from yesterday. a fair amount of surface rust on the original finish exterior and top compartment, but the drawers are pretty spiffy considering. The drawers all slide effortlessly in and out. Can anyone help me determine an age on this box? Seems like it's likely an earliest version to bear the crowntop badge. With so much of the original finish I reckon I'll try to knock down the rust as best as possible, and rub some car wax over it. My only lament is the surface rust on the pulls. I'll have to give it some though as to whether it might be worth it to try and remove them and give them a more dedicated treatment.....

Sorry, I was busy before. Those Crowntop ones are fairly rare to find, especially in a 10d version. I know myself and a couple others have been keeping an eye out for one, to put on the bottom rollers. These are the last AMD made boxes, before Craftsman switched to Waterloo.

UGHH you **** so bad. I have a crown top 8 drawer lower roller that needs this top chest so bad. The patina would match fairly well... If I was closer to you I would be most certainly trying to buy this and I dont think you are coming to Oregon/Washington soon ? In terms of the drawer pulls, try rubbing them down with 000 steel wool and wd 40. I had pretty good luck on a craftsman drill press motor machined aluminum band recently with this technique!

So it's curbside shopping season here and I saw a homeowner rolling a wheelbarrow to the curb. A few minutes later we roll past again and I see the logo - Crowntop Craftsman! I stop and take a look and it's in FANTASTIC condition for it's age.

The frame is MUCH sturdier than what is sold now, the wheel is ball bearing and it has a solid tire. The tire might not be original or someone foamed it but it's a keeper!

This will make Wheelbarrow #4 in my herd - but this was too nice to go to the garbage dump.

Cool find at a pawn shop this afternoon. No markings on the box, apart from Made in USA.



The good stuff is on the inside, notice the inspection tag still on the cord!



Some stamped bike multi-tools, and a a time capsule quality drill and bits!



Looks like only the larger two of the masonry bits were used, maybe once. And the chuck pin (the little rod with the loop on one end) is something I've never seen before, it's for removing the chuck. I've always just used a handy nail for that...



I got the instructions & parts list, and even the side handle in case that 1/4 hp tries to overpower me.

I have a Kennedy roller with the same handles, so maybe it will live on that one. I've looked around, but cannot find a date. I might try combing some catalogs.

This is a Canadian made box by Beach...I dont believe you will find this in the US market catalogs...you will need to search the canadian ones... Nice find, especially given the price!

It's hard to believe I made the last post in this thread. It's been five weeks!

Yesterday I cut up a yoga mat to use as drawer liners. It is a mellow yellow-green color that I find relaxing. I bumped the saturation up on these photos, due to dim light in the shop. That makes the color look a little more intense than it really is. The smoother side is facing up.


The 24" paper cutter works great for lining drawers. There wasn't much of the mat left over! I think I paid $2 for the mat. I'll be watching for more of them at the second hand stores.

Hi there, I’ve cross posted this, hope that’s ok. I thought these butterfly ratchets belonged here too.

My wife and I went out of town, and striving to be vigilant I happened to find these Craftsman Butterfly/Flying =V= ratchets, breaker bars, sockets, etc. near where we were staying.

The 1/2 drive set is missing the 13/16 & 3/4 sockets. The ratchet and breaker bar are in great shape. There’s a 6-in extension and two deep sockets, 3/4 and 13/16. Both ratchets have oilers.

The 3/8 set is missing the 1/2 socket. There’s a -G- 3” extension and a New Britain #4 Phillips, a Snap-On 7/16, and a =V= 13/16 spark plug socket.

The rest is a mix of Mastercraft and some metric that read only CR-Moly Steel. And a Husky USA 5/8 spark plug socket. There is also a weirdo Mastercraft socket light.

Thanks, JoCo. Approximately when do you think it was made? I’d like to go through the catalog and see which pieces should have come in the set, assuming that it is one. If anything is missing, its likely that I have spares. I did notice a gap where the 3/8” drive 1/2” socket should have been. I was pleased that the red plastic in the 1/4” drive set was intact because most of the ones I’ve seen have been cracked.

I'd say it's most likely that it began life as a set and was augmented with some extras. You've got pointy A's and quick releases. Here's a set from 1967. Interesting that, like yours, this midget set doesn't come with a ratchet. I'm also attaching an interesting sales catalog clip someone else sent me. It depicts my earlier version of this set that came with the butterfly rats. Thought it was cool to see something different than a catalog clip. It's from a 1966 newspaper. My set is from 64, I know this as it still has the receipt in the tool box.
