Hey guys, I'm currently looking at doing a gambrel style roof garage with a loft. I would love to see some pics of what you've done. Inside and outside shots please!

Let's see if I can figure out how to insert a picture in the post-Photobucket era. Our barn is 28 X 48, 12' ceiling height, with a full 8' headroom in the loft. Check out barnplans.com for inspiration.

OK- Couldn't figure out how to upload a picture.

If you have the picture stored on your computer, you can upload it by going down to the "Additional Options" window at the bottom of where you reply to posts, and hit the "Manage Attachments" tab.

This will open up a window that will have a bunch of lines with a "Browse" tab to the right of each line. Click any one of the browse tabs, and another window will open up that will show your computers desktop.

You can then browse to where your picture is, and click on the picture, and then at the bottom right of that window, click the "Open" tab.

This will delete that window, and you will come back to the "Manage Attachments" window. There you will see the link to your picture in the line to the left of the "Browse" tab you clicked from before.

Then you click the "Upload" tab at the bottom right of where the "Browse" tabs are.

Once the upload is done, it will say that below all the "Browse" lines. Then you can delete the "Manage Attachments" window and you will see the link to your pictures in the "Additional Options" window.

Then you click the "Submit reply" tab and your picture will appear as a thumbnail underneath your reply!

Then all we have to do is click your thumbnail and we will see the full size picture!

I hope this helps. I don't use any of the online photo sharing sites, so the above way is how I upload my own pictures.

Jim

Finished mine a few years ago working on the inside now. 24'x44', 3 bays, one for my wood shop the other part for 2 bay garage separated by a wall with a double extior door between. the ' loft is accessed from the out side with an 8'x 12' deck an stairway. The gambrel trusses are 2 piece delivered and assemble the 2 pieces on site and then erect them. This gives you a good idea. I can add more pics if you wish. I have done all the work but the foundation. I used I joists so no support beams or posts for the entire lower level. The garage could be one open space although I separated into 2 spaces with a wall. 9' ceilings in the garage area.Very happy with the results.

Dave

A few more pics. The loft is great. 11' high at the top. Initially a little overwhelming on the size of the space, but once the finishing gets done. should look good. I put an 18,000 btu mini split in (loft only) and will supplement with a wood stove there. Put in 2" of closed cell sprayfoam insulation and will fill the rest with fibreglass.

Both above are very nice! The green one looks a lot like my plan. 2 garage doors in front and nice windows above.

Keep those pics coming!!

Down at work we did up a 30x60 gambrel roofed barn for new farm store. Have kitchen on one end. The owners also wanted a porch for covered display purposes. Its completely sheetrock finished on the interior with all pine trim, commercial code compliant fixtures and ADA equipped.

My boss also wanted a finished floor in the loft so I put down a shiplap wide pine board for him and he eventually poly finished it all himself. Looks like basketball court to me. :D Overall pretty good though.

Since it such a big room it is kind of dark even in the daytime without lights on and air flow is at a minimum too with windows only on the two end walls. I wanted more natural light on the second floor and suggested dormers but obviously it wasn't my building and my plan

Let me tell you it was darn hot putting down that floor upstairs floor in late summer.

We also have smaller separate 12x20 ft gambrel roofed building I built our cider donut kitchen in that.
