Craftsman Wall Cabinet_Page_1.jpg

Craftsman Wall Cabinet_Page_2.jpg

Kept digging around and found these two images. Not the exact vintage wall cabinet I have, but a pretty good idea of what carpentry tools were thought to go in it.

Not sure if this square is Heritage? It was a glob of orange crust, but a soak in evaporust allowed me to get it apart.
A socket box joined the family. And a vise...maybe I already posted it.

LS: I REALLY like that leather-handled socket box (?)!!! Is there a catalog ad showing what that box would have held?

A couple of Heritage items I have found but never show here:

And inside the little box

A nice 3/8's drive spinner set. But I have never quite figured out what the leather pouch is for, exactly. Punches? Chisles? I don't know.

Love the pouch, I thought I was cool with my "pleather" one (that a clean chisel edge cut right through......

What do you figure that leather handled box dated from Don?

Looks a lot like my Dad's 1/2 drive set. Ive found it in a 1947 catalog. Dad got his for HS graduation in '48. I still have the box, breaker bar, speeder, and a couple of the sockets. The box is pretty beat up as it has seen a lot of hard use over the years on the farm, the handle is held on with a bit of baling wire, and has been as long as I can remember.

Forgot to mention that I dated Dad's to '47 because the '48 catalog showed a hip roof box and didnt have the speeper in the lid.

So, initial thought was that I had to pay up for this set, but then realized I got a nearly complete vintage 3/4" drive set with box for $45. Lid and frame of box are pretty solid, but the bottom is seriously roached out! Seems to only be missing 1 3/4 and 1 3/16, but not sure what a complete set would have included in this box. Had pretty good luck with online only auctions when weather gets cold. Nice SK made set for the collection!

Nice find on the Circle K set Zrx. I looked through several years of catalogs and it looks like that boxed set always came with 7 sockets and "room to grow" in the box. This is a 49 clip.

Nice, I'll have to keep an eye out for the t handle and extensions for sure. I'll post more pics when I get time to polish the sockets and maybe make up a new bottom for the box.

Yes. Looks like I found it on p2 of the 1948 catalog.
16pc set: 18in speeder, 15in sliding tee, 5 & 10in extensions, 10 12pt sockets 7/16 to 1in.
I think after ‘48 the same set was packaged in a low hip-lid box.

I guess I got a better deal than I thought! All 11 of the circle kid's were there, and an actual SK labeled one and a few craftsman 1/2" sockets. No drive tools though.

I wonder if this could be the low hip-lid box you're referring to? Disregard the tools in there...it's a hodge podge of vintage US with few Craftsman. No badge or decal that I've seen inside or outside the box.

LS is correct that in 49 the 16pc 1/2d set went to a low hip box. 49 was the first year that set was filled with MDF tools instead of NB. I'd guess the box change was because the other box wasn't tall enough to accommodate that huge handle on the MDF speeder.

Tex, your low hip box looks to be the right size and shape but that handle and paint throws me. Looks kinda sorta mid to late 50s Craftsman but that handle would be out of place in that era. It also looks like it's either been replaced with those flat nuts on the inside or possibly the factory rivets gave out and somebody just reattached it with those. The catalog diagram shows a different partitioning that doesn't extend the full length of the box. While I think the catalog diagrams are generally pretty damned accurate, there's always room for error looking at those things. My guess? I don't think that box is Craftsman. Still a cool box, that handle is in pretty good shape.

I think your box is older than 1949, whatever the source.
The ‘49 catalog shows a low hip box with a METAL handle.

Liberated this ca1952 sliding tray tool box from a hardly-ever-open antiques place today for $35. The tray slides are a bit sticky. Otherwise I like it.

I was going through the oilers in my garage this morning and noticed this sitting in a box with some other oilers.
