I have another question and forgive me if this is the wrong thread. This was one my grandfathers many tool boxes. I think it’s a craftsman home owner version but it should be around the heritage era. Does anybody know what it is?IMG_1524.jpgIMG_1525.jpg

Garage sale box. I figured I’d get it just for the badge (it was $5) but I think I’m going to bring the box back. I figured it was probably late 30s or a 40s box.

Got these 1/2 drive cadmium plated circle u (plomb made ) sockets yesterday. Runs from 7/16 all the way to 1 inch. I had the ratchet and speed wrench. Now I just need the short extension, universal joint , hinge handle and carry box! If anyone has any of those let me know!

I've got a few items to share. Disregard the masking tape (just trying to contain the dust storm made by the saw somewhat). 583e653d4df25300ed2c3350f5413f99.jpg8d0c83ebab135ea0a90eada2457dbd3d.jpg9e61870d8600fc9123578a849be54b43.jpg

Anyone know when they were stamping dates vs not for Heritage top chests? Picked up a 3 drawer, missing the medallion (which coincedently makes it much easier to read stamping). It doesnt have a year there, compared to the 59 Crowntop roller I have. Ideas?

Those things are irresistible to me. Your box could be anywhere from 49 to 57. It can be saved. While I usually love a good patina on a box some are just too far gone and need a good spa treatment. Before/After of one of mine:

That looks great! Between your box, and the tool polishing thread I am inspired. Got this on the way too

^It seems that way!^ Unexpected CL find yesterday (also posted in boxes of garage journal) bottom box matching the top one I just got. I expected to have a long wait on that. Any experts know if it’s 40s50s/or even 60s? If those 2 removable bottom box trays are original?

45-48. In 49 they went to one pull per drawer. Great find and amazing that it came along so quickly after your top chest. Mission accomplished!

Awesome! I’m seriously shocked. I had to drive quite a ways to get it but I figured it’s entirety possibly I’d never come across another. How about those trays? I haven’t seen those before in bottom boxes. We’re they standard back then? Think I’d ruin it with a repaint?

I am generally against repainting. Unless you are a very, very good bodyman it will never look as new. The whole point, at least from my perspective, is the patina that the boxes develop over the decades of use and love.

I usually am 99% of the time as well, but thought that Hammered Verde Green would look pretty sweet on this box. Perhaps I’ll clean it really well first and then decide. Example of the Verde on a craftsman box

The trays aren't original to the chest. If that stack were mine it wouldn't get anywhere near new paint but to each his own. If you do decide to paint it, the hammered verde green wouldn't be period correct. The older Heritage boxes had wrinkle textured gray on the outside and smooth gray on the inside. At some point (I'm guessing around 52 when they lost the full front dust cover) they went to the hammered whateverthehellcolorthatis paint through the rest of the 50s. I just noticed that your top chest has the tray with it. That's a plus!!

Not to tell anyone else what to do...
I have 95% of a quart of verde hammered. I love the color. When I bought it, I had a couple Grizzly machines and thought I’d make everything else I owned match. After painting one vise, I changed my mind. I DON’T want everything to look like Kermit the Frog, after all. It took me a while to accept scuffs and chips. But they are more agreeable on vintage equipment to me than a perfect layer of the “wrong” color.
It probably depends on what you’re painting.
I think if you paint a mule, you’ll like it better. If you paint a unicorn, you won’t.

These are a few Craftsman axes I've got. One still has a Heritage decal on the handle.
The golden jubilee marked one predates the Heritage era but I thought it's was post worthy. 20200513_090722.jpeg20200513_090730.jpeg20200513_090735.jpeg20200513_090814.jpg

Snapped up this heritage box today. Popped up on offer up 15 minutes from the shop. No wheels, but not bad otherwise.
