Thanks Dave. Two actually popped up within reach of me at the same time. The other one was closer but it was the later version with CRAFTSMAN cast into the body. I opted for the Heritage logo. It's taking every ounce of resolve I have not to go snag that other one as well.

I've been trying to get one with each style logo in each model. So far have both styles in 5197 and 5191. Have all the heritage other than the '98

Yea I like the Looks of the Heritage logo series although the other one is probably a bit older right. I keep a close eye on Marketplace, estate sales, and Craigslist. Are there other places you find these?

This is the other one for sale nearby me Dave. It's newer than the Heritage badged one. Looking through the thread centered around these 519x vises, I seem to recall seeing one with this logo dated 1955 or a bit later which is a bit odd, as that still falls within the Heritage era. Not really sure when they changed to this logo.

This one looks much rougher than the one I just picked up. I'll let it baste a while, if it doesn't sell in a week or so I may contact them with a counter offer.

That is good restraint there jocosawdust! I would buy it but I don’t know the market in your area? I found rileysan a really nice original paint one a few years back at a swap meet

Yep I like the Heritage one you picked better. When you said raised letters I was thinking about the older long C vises they had the raised letters.

I need to gather my heritage stuff for a family photo. My current list of heritage is the following:

6 drawer top chest, 10 drawer top chest, 3 drawer lower chest, floor mount drill press, vise, and a circular saw.

The 6 drawer was restored 7 years ago, everything else sits as how I bought them currently. Too busy with the Camaro project to work on anything else.

Thought I post a few picture of one of my favorite finds. Note that I tried to place period correct tools in there but not it’s definitely not perfect, but it is functional... lolec37607056bec09924da646f8076bbe4.jpg

Great wall cabinent TM. For as much time as I spend scouring for treasures, I've yet to find one in good original condition. I'm jealous!

Oldtuleguy, great setup looks awesome. I had a hard time finding the vintage all metal ball peen hammers that belong on the left door but finally found a couple years later.

Dave: I keep my eyes peeled on the same places as you do. Estate sales seem to have picked up a bit around here so my luck has been a bit better as of late.

Ed: You've got an incredible collection of Cman vises. I have to admit that I'm being sucked into the vortex of old vises. Sprucing this one up was a really fun project. I was elated to get it adjusted just right.

Smokes: I'm also eye-balling a pre-Craftsman Samson vise that's fairly close to me. I may pull the trigger on that one this week.

You need to buy the Samson vise and the 519x vise, because, you know, you don’t want that vise to fall into the hands of someone who doesn’t appreciate it [emoji849][emoji15]

I'll post the wrench in the Long C thread, but I'm pretty sure the hammer belongs here.

IMG_6854.jpg

I got teased yesterday for having so many ball peen hammers and then I went and brought this one home. The head was painted white when I found it, but the fact that it's plated is what caught my eye. I am thinking it might be nickel plated, as opposed to chrome. Is that what the [N] in a box signifies?

My daughter and son-in-law know how to Christmas shop for the old man. I love anything with original packaging.

Picked this up today. Like every older box/cabinet I have bought, there is always at least one tool rolling around inside. In this case a "Kraeuter" socket. I had never heard of Kraeuter and had to look it up.

I was surprised at how much smaller and lighter it is next to my Pressweld cabinet of similar design. Not as tall, not as deep, and nowhere near the gauge thickness.

Except when pressteel made craftsman rollers [emoji41]

Looking for the following PLVMB/PROTO dual marked combo wrenches- 1208, 1210, 1212, 1224, 1228, 1230, 1240, 1242, 1244, 1246, 1248, 1252

I have only seen one Pressteel made Craftsman cabinet, I think it was Outlaws. I wonder if that was a one or two year "Sears Best" or "Super Duty" type cabinet for Craftsman. I believe it was a 1954 model.

Yes correct, they made the deluxe rollers in the 50’s. Rileysan has 2 of them. The super duty set was introduced in 1967 and was Waterloo made. They changed the name to craftsman commercial in 1968

I posted this set on the Vintage Toolboxes thread. This morning, I figured out how to remove the drawers to start the clean up. So far from my incomplete reading, it seems like the WD40 with fine steel wool is an effective choice (I'll complete my reading before I start).

I happily paid $100 for the set.

Fantastic stack at an incredible price. I've had my best luck with WD40 and 0000 steel wool along with a lot of patience. You'll be surprised at how good those handles clean up. Congrats!

Thanks Pharmer.
JoCo -- Thanks. I must have seen an earlier post of yours regarding the clean up method.

In my Vintage Toolbox post, I mentioned both locks being locked closed. After a trip to a locksmith, the barrel lock on the bottom chest was easy, now keyed. The top chest was more challenging. After grinding a couple notches in a blank, I told them I was a tinkerer and would proceed on my own. He looked in with a light with magnification and opined there were two spring-loaded prongs that needed to be pushed (my wording, not his) and gave me a couple blanks to play with. Attached is an image of the lock. I'm hoping someone has a key from their similar box and will post an image so I can get an idea of what it looks like. I've looked online and have not yet found anything.

The lock says: Eagle Lock Co., Terryville, Conn, 49Y39.

Thanks.

Private message Jeff Moss. He's the GJ resident locksmith. If anyone can point you in the right direction, it's him.

All great stuff, Jim! However, you need to post photos of the uncommon (if not rare) Huot 4-drawer middle chest to the toolboxes of GJ thread!

Good eye. That was a gift from my father in law who bought it in the mid 1960s. I use it mostly for drill bits and my good measuring tools
