No pictures yet,3 catalogs and some NOS open end wrenches including a breaker bar and extension bar.The NOS wrenches including the catalogs came from an auto parts store open since 1938 and closed down a while this year.Catalogs are a 1987 catalog with the price guide,1982 catalog and a catalog I am still trying to figure out what year it is from.

Does stuff you've sold count? I admired it a lot before passing it on... I've run across quite a bit in the last six months or so. Most of the old socket sets I find seem to be Indestro or Duro-Chrome. Nice stuff, no wonder it sells so well.

I grabbed a D-I marked 3/8" (1/4" drive) socket during my last pawnshop hunt. This is one that the guys on alloy artifacts says was likely a WWII production socket because of the lack of chrome etc.

Tonight I was digging through my stepdad's toolbox trying to find the second V series Craftsman 3/8" ratchet that he used and was skipping teeth. I told him if I could find the kits I would clean and rebuild and lube it properly for him. So as we were digging I saw the pear hear ratchet and grabbed it, my first thought was an odd looking Proto but in fact it is an Indestro 6272. Does anyone know a little more about these ratchets? I checked alloy artifacts but it looks like they focus mostly on the older stuff.

They say that sometime in the '60s the tools were marked with both Duro and Indestro, so I am thinking 1950s to early 1960s. Is there more info to get a closer time frame?

Thanks

Can anyone identify this tool? I've done several searches... no luck. It has "Indestro" embossed on it.

More correctly it is a valve lapping tool. If you spin the crank the suction cup will spin back and forth mostly. Suction cup sticks to the top of the valve, a little lapping compound on the valve face and seat and run the two together to set the 2 together.

Got this at an auction about a week ago, thought it was cool, so i got it. No use for it though, so probably going on ebay. I figure its 1929 or 30. missing two pieces. Also have a full 1/2 Indestro Super socket set that i use myself. Some of the best quality sockets ive seen.

I've got a few Indestro tools. I like them! I have a 1/4 ratchet that my grandfather gave me when I was probably 12 years old or so along with a few mixed sockets. Fast forward about 19 years later after he passed away I inherited his 1931 Ford Model A and when I picked it up I took two of his 1/2 inch ratchets (one is a longer SK) and an indestro breaker bar, a couple extensions and a 1/2 inch proto speeder with me. (with the family's blessing of course) I have most of my drive tools and sockets now and may go through more of his tools someday but most will remain at my grandmothers house in case they are needed when my Dad or Aunt or Uncle are out there, however they aren't quite as into fixing stuff and tools as I am. His tools weren't exactly organized so I have no idea what he might have for complete sets but I had a need for a few 1/2 inch drive tools and these (and the SK) are very nice! Even better since I get to use my grandfather's tools.

While re-arranging some tool rolls in the work truck, I came across this little gem. Doesn't say "Indestro" or have a 74x number on it, but says Select Steel and the forging is certainly Indestro.

Bought a 1/4" drive set at a thrift store in Mandeville, La yesterday. It has some sockets marked D - I, while others have the Duro-Chrome name and part number on them. I figure it was wartime production and the set was completed using whichever sockets were available to fill the order. See http://home.comcast.net/~alloy-artifacts/duro-indestro-p2.html, figure 11 and mostly like figure 45. The inside decal is not as intact, but is partially readable. It is the"Tools for Progress" style like Outlaws in post 67 above. Included in the set was an early S-K 1/4" drive ratchet. Paid $15 total including a couple other small items (USA tire pressure gage, 4" wire rope grinder wheel, and a wooden handle swarf brush).

I know this isn't the classifieds, but I have a nice 1/4 drive 2875 ratchet I decided to part with, and pretty sure I have a spare repair kit for it also that I bought 15 years ago when ranch stored clearance out all their tools. Anybody interested?

My stuff...

A very nice Wizard 3/8"-drive socket set, an Indestro Super angle-wrench set, a pristine set of Indestro Select DBEs from the 1950s or earlier, a single Indestro Super T2 tappet wrench, Duro, Indestro & Westcraft ratchets and a pair of rough Indestro water pump pliers...

anyone know anything about these im trying to sell them and i cant find anything on this duro set thanks

It looks like an old packing gland socket set. Used for dis-assembly and repair of older control valves, like on HVAC equipment.

I have a bunch and will eventually post a pic. The thing I like about Indestro and Duro-Chrome the most is they are not named Craftsman! The people who run the estate sales always price them like they a junk tools. They are always supper cheap.

The middle one looks like it could be for carburator adjustments. Similar sockets on following page in 9/32" drive, but they were available in 1/4" by most of the older manufacturers.

Duro-Chrome 1/4" Breaker Bar 2650? Any experts?

Looking closer at my Duro-Chrome 1/4" set that I posted above, I have been unable to completely identify the breaker bar.

The set is most likely a war production period piece based on the mix of socket markings, but the breaker bar has the number 2650 on it and appears identical to the breaker bar in figure 45 of Alloy Artifacts Page 2 of the Duro section. On closer examination of figure 11, same page, the breaker bar number begins with a 2 and may be 2650.

I can not find the 2650 number in the only catalog I have access to (1935 Tools of Progress), and in fact, the similar breaker bar (has 1/4" on both ends) shown on page 20 is a 4550. Anyone have any insight or access to a post wartime catalog? Thanks for any info.

Since I was down in the basement-looked at the stash and figured I would throw out some pictures of what I have. Lots of everything with no particular sets in finished condition. As other people have stated-not posting as a sale, but could entertain a large swap on all items if someone is serious and has a lot of USA ratchets-w/out POM's/eng. or sets of HI-Chrome metric-combo wrenches-like S-K 6/12 pt-Superkrome finish. I don't mind PM's asking for items as long as you furnish me with a laundry list by part # what you need. Will attempt to answer ALL messages. Would prefer to trade as a complete load! Will consider all............Cranky:dunno:
