I know there has already been a thread like this in the past. I wanted to revive it so all members either old or new can access it. Any ways, show off your cool knives or other blades. Here are a couple of mine, my favorites that I have on me right now, My Cold Steel Recon 1 Tanto and Cold Steel Kobun Tanto.

I tend to beat up knives, since I, you know, use 'em. :)

I used to have decent, name brand knives- carried a $100 Benchmade bali-song for a while- but I got tired of not being able to use them as needed. Which occasional involved scraping a dab of rust or paint, stripping a wire, or scraping off a bit of gasket.

So for a while I switched to cheap imported, no-name knives. The $1 each candy-bowl at the gas station type of stuff. It was better for using- I didn't care if I tweaked the tip prying on a part and cheap enough to be basically disposable.

But even that wasn't all that good, as the quality, of course, sucked. Sometimes the blade wouldn't latch, they always needed sharpening right out of the box, and sometimes I couldn't find the same one (or "brand") so I had to get used to a different kind of latch, or the belt clip being on the wrong side, etc.

Recently, I found about the perfect knife- it's a Stanley folder that takes utility knife blades. It's built reasonably well, holds the blade securely, had a nice clip, and blades can be replaced without tools. A box of 100 blades ran about $12, and I no longer worry about nicking or dulling a blade. I can finally use the knife as a tool, like it's supposed to be. :)

Doc.

And to the right my Esee 4. I rotate these whenever I get bored with one. I have about 49 more but these are the main ones I'll put in my pocket.

I can't comment on a paramilitary having only handled it, but the s30v in the military and manix 2 xl is awesome. It holds a really nice working edge for a while, can get razor sharp and is fairly easy to sharpen. The knife itself is a beast. I prefer the manix over military but both are great knives. The zdp-189 on the caly 3 however is a beast to sharpen lol

How is a knife that has never been used, a favorite? Are they duplicates of the knives you use?
How would you know what the owners use was? Does it have to look like a beat up machete to qualify as a favorite? Maybe it's their favorite letter opener.

maybe it's like stamp collecting. Stamp collectors have favorites.
In fairness, they did say favorite knife and not most useful knife.
So what makes an unused or barely/limited used tool a favorite?

Some people admire fit and finish in a knife which can make it a favorite if they can't afford too many higher class knives. Some people are sentimental about a certain knife which can make it a favorite. A favorite knife doesn't have to be one you've carried 20years and cut everything on earth with.

I'm with you. I understand collecting, we all have something like that. But for every day carry and use on any number of things, I've found a folding utility knife to be invaluable.

I was reading that the actual cheap cheese / steak knives etc are ruining the reputation of the laguiole's. They are actually really great pocket knives. Intersingly laguiole is not the brand but the style originally named from the village in France where they where made. FYI I wasn't calling your knife cheap. Mine wasn't

This was done with a Zombie Tools Felon:

I don't feel like grabbing another drive to dig up the images of the knife. Just look it up if you are interested.

That was a four foot long, 4X4" cardboard box. It was cut empty, and free standing on end, with no support whatsoever.

Don't discount them because of the amusing name, nor the tongue in cheek image. These guys crank out some seriously functional blades, and they know their damned stuff.

A lot of that cut was form, naturally, but very few knives that won't cost you a used car could have done it.

Highly, highly recommended.

One of my more elegant blades; made to order:

This one was a bit more expensive. :eyecrazy:

This sort of thing means a lot to me, though, so I believe scrimping and saving all that time was worth it. I beat my brains out for years working my way up to this, and when I thought the time was right, I went for it.

Naturally, I've got cheaper models for regular use. Not that it can't take a beating, mind you; It'll shame the training blades in that regard.

I just bought it as kind of a gift to myself, and I like to keep it nice. I do use it, though; just not as much as I probably should.

I had this guy for a while

It's a k-bar swing guard. Very rare knife, I wish I never got rid of it but it was time to pass it on. I got it in a box of pocket knives at an auction a good few years ago. It was a 30 bucks gets everything on the table kind of deal.

Here's another I still have packed away somewhere. Cool little old knife.

I've got a couple of real Forge de Laguioles as well (along with some other items I collect).

There are a lot of Pakistani "Laguiole" knock-offs out there & around Xmas Costco had chinese made "Laguiole" steak knives.

Not sure if trolling, or... :headscrat

No, just interested in what makes a one of two million or so created, nothing special knife a favorite.

I have a one in three million in my pocket. Like my meals, it's my favorite because it's the one in front of me.

I have favorite dive knives because they are tools that do what they are supposed to.
I had a favorite vintage knife;
Found in the footlocker of a Canadian WW2 vet in a storage locker, it's a British [or maybe Canadian in this case] double edged boot dagger with a nasty little [bone induced?] bend on the tip and blood stain corrosion and a bit of a stain in the bottom of the scabbard. The big buck from my grandpa, the little buck that lives in my pocket, the pakistani knife on my hip...

I am just wondering if I am missing out on a collectable that appreciates[to a point worth actually investing in one of two million type knives], if there are uses for a knife other than using it up.

This is kind of an extension of a thread earlier this month for me. The OP went from wanting a slaying, flaying, big usable knife to a wanting a paperweight to never use in about 12 posts, then back. Not bashing that OP, I just need a bit of understanding.

Do you guys trade them like kids used to trade matchbox cars? Do they make 'surprise' editions in sealed boxes and you have to accumulate knives by opening packages in hopes of the 'green pearl handled special edition'? Are they a form of the collectable painted plates, or a form of the limited edition, ugly [in LOTS of cases] engraved average, nothing special rifle that is worth the world now because it says 'John Wayne"?
I have passed up boxes of 300 to 1000 new pakistani knives at auction for 10 cents apiece or so, I'll say...five times in 8 years.
