Undecided if I'm gonna keep the pliers or not.

No pics but I had to do some more shaping of the dental pliers I modified for plastic push pins. I did get one use out of it grabbing the broken center of one on an audi and working it out. Good thing the ends are sharp.

Lowes has these for 12.97
Got me a few and 2 as gifts for $11.97.
One of "my" stores is $14.47 with 3 left, and another of "mine" is at
$11.97 with 7 left, too bad they won't ship at that price. 4 sets would put you over the free shipping at $45.00 sale, the guys in out-of-stock store areas could get a few shipped.
It shows shipping available, but as soon as you add it to your cart Bam! it goes up to $20.00 $29.98.

I'm tempted to try those pliers. Something you didn't like about them?
I think HF has a -20% coupon this weekend.

What lmpact did you get?
Milwaukee 2863-20 1/2" High Torque with Friction Ring unit. It's awesome, all the adjustability for every setting and will either break the stud or free the fastener. They kick hard and are heavy, I now understand why they sell rubber boots as I've already beat the finish off in several areas where it was slammin into stuff while I was ripping on the trigger.

Really nice combo with my impact driver though. I wanted a mid torque but ended up getting the high torque because what I was facing was rusted big ol suspension and exhaust bolts and I wanted to be unblocked for sure. 100% success in that regard but I have broken off one bolt I didn't want to so there's a learning curve.

Show the customer service desk the $11.97 price from their own website and they’ll price match it.

They do and I used it lol. I dunno, something about them doesn't feel right in hand. Probably the giant grips, I'm not into the comfort grips.

I have knipex twin grips already but wanted to try these too.

^ thanks. toasters? and I'd been of the belief those things were for telecommunications systems - like phones and such.
So... If I do not own a toaster, I probably don't need them? :dunno:

My SnapOn torque wrenches had these security screws on the handle before they were reworked.

JDV Products were always the ones selling the non jaws fit Megadoras, just not on their www.jdvproducts.com website, hence the strikethrough.

They were one of the first, if not the first, distributor for Vessel screwdrivers in the US. They were always on JDV's www.vesseltools.com website.

www.vesseltoolsusa.com didn't come about until way later when Vessel decided to sell directly in the US. But the non jawsfit are through JDV only.
The Megadora 900 series Non-Jaws can also be found on USA Amazon website, that is where I got some of mine. They were shipped from Japan. No, I didn't buy them from the Amazon Japan.

For the standard teal handle Megadoras? Interesting, I've never seen the non jawsfit for the teal ones on Amazon US or Japan. My Megadora Impacta is non jawsfit from Amazon. I'm no Vessel expert but my understanding is that Vessel stopped making them a long time ago & they have been exclusive to JDV now. If that's the case JDV should stop making their claim all these years.

With the 25% off sale, I decided to upgrade my 1/2" torque wrench. There were two main drivers: flex-head and storage.
3wWIhJ.jpg
As far as the flex-head, mission-accomplished, which will be nice. Lack of clearance pops up enough for that I really want to address it. I also hoped that since the wrench itself is 23" that the case would fit squarely in the drawer of my Full Bank. Nope! :ROFLMAO:  (my old one doesn't either).

I also got a couple of additional blades:
7NKFqg.jpg

I've stopped trying to keep this particular type of tool in one place, and have them spread out in spots around the garage and house: A couple in the house, one near the recycling bin for breaking down boxes, one at the little tool chest, one hung on the leg of my work bench, etc, etc. and it is great. The hawkbill was on sale, and I'd hoped it was a 'flipper' like the utility knives, since the Doyle I'd grabbed recently thinking it was a flipper wasn't. Or, I thought it wasn't...

eQhwHN.jpg

When I opened the Milwaukee, it behaved just like the Doyle - no flippy. Then I remembered all of my utility knives improved with a bit of Super Lube. Now both flip open FBSQ99.gif

Interestingly, the Doyle does a better job flipping open now. The blade is heavier/beefier, and there appears to be a large brass plate at the pivot. I think I see a brass washer deep in the Milwaukee, but hard to see. It definitely wants a bit more effort and a more-precise 'flick' to open. But very happy now with both. A quick strop on my leather pad improved the sharpness of both significantly.

I purchased mine 2 to 3 years ago (probably closer to 3 years). And I had to purchase them in singles, they were not in a kit or anything. To be honest, I have not checked Amazon to see if they are still available. So you could be correct in that regard. They may have stopped selling them on Amazon. Great screwdriver though... Just checked Amazon all the 900 series singles say Jawsfit. They didn't even bother to change part numbers either. At least I have 3 non-Jawsfit JIS Vessel screwdrivers with the teal handles.

Just got my first bi-directional scan tool after searching for a few years for one I could afford and one which would perform most of the functions I'd ever need. This checks all of the boxes. It's no Snap-on Zeus, but should serve me well. Even does key reprogramming, and for $349, (on sale when I bought it), with 3 years free updates, it's a pretty solid value overall. The D8 does relearns, but was also $200 more, and about the only feature the D7 doesn't have. I can't wait to play with it.

Additional tools came in from the liquidator.

Gor a set of Knipex hog ring pliers, a set of electronics mounting pliers, and an insulated T20 torx screwdriver.
IMG_20230402_122628.jpg

Also grabbed two more Rennsteig 15mm wide carbide scrapers and a 30mm wide one with replaceable blades.
IMG_20230402_122649.jpg

Some more Wera sockets, mostly 1/4" drive, a bunch of small torx screwdrivers (and a few others) and a zyklop rebuild kit.
IMG_20230402_123024.jpg

A bunch more Rennsteig chisels in larger sizes including the big mamba jamba.

IMG_20230402_123252.jpg

And three more Rennsteig Pew12 crimpers. This time looks to be for coax. Couldn't care about the dies, but the crimpers themselves should serve others well.

Todays goodies from Snap On Monday. I’ve been needing angle on fasteners in the 70-90in lb range lately. I previously would torque with the 1/4” non digital then either mark something or if it’d fit, use angle on my 1/2” one. Didn’t have a 3/8” anyway so he let me buy the expensive combo of tech angle and micrometer style 3/8’s and immediately trade in the micrometer style. Saved like $100 off retail.

5-125lb will get almost everything done. Probably won’t use any other torque wrench very often at all.

Not shown is the longest green handle flex head 3/8” ratchet they make. That was on order for awhile and finally showed up. 95BE5343-0DED-449A-B7CC-2D50354EB420.jpeg

I filled out a claim on their website and they emailed me almost right away then shipped to my house within two weeks. Super easy as long as its something they still carry. However my Max Axess ratchet that seized up is a Sears exclusive and they no longer sell so not sure how that one is gonna pan out.

Public Service Announcement (PSA), I used that HF spring compressor to r&r one set of front springs on a 4th gen Camaro and the acme threads on the spring compressor looked worn out when I was done. I would be hesitant to use the spring compressor again.
It helps to lube the threads , also impact wrenches will wreck the acme threaded rod in no time.
I used an impact on a volvo scissor jack and it bound the threads up to where it locked and wouldn't move either way.
Had to borrow a jack to get my car off the broken jack.

While I replaced the shocks on my Camaro a good many years ago, I actually read the instructions (crazy talk I know) and lubed the threads and did not use an impact, just as you said, and the threads looked like hell when I was done.

Are we talking about the claw-type compressors?

After waiting literally years, the NEW uactivate from AESwave is mine.

Oh yeah, that's the master kit, test ALL the relay circuits.

That's pretty awesome. Beats the old school way I test them using power to energize the control side while testing with a VOM on the load side. Probably takes much less time too.

Great, now that's another tool that GarageJournal has made me consider purchasing.

I don't believe it's available for sale yet, I have been on the waiting list for literally years and got an email that linked to a special site.

Normally I'd use a 250ma test lamp for the control side, and a 2-5amp for the load. Depends how it's wired what order you need to do stuff. Downside is if the relay has circuit monitoring, getting good test results can be a pain, because control circuits can be shut down or power feeds removed if the circuit is open. I think I will primarily use this for current measurements in circuits and just to make connecting to the fuse box easier. That and bypassing the control side to just test a component from the fuse box. Some scan tool functions like to toggle things which isn't my preference for testing something for power/ground.

I'm always amazed at the number of comments and YouTube videos talking about the dangers of DIY strut compressors. The consensus seems to be, it's not worth the risk, either buy the full strut assembly, or send it to a shop with the (enclosed) equipment to rebuild it.

I used this style spring compressor when I changed the top mount bearings on my wife’s mustang last year. It was a bit disappointing, none of the excitement or feeling of danger you get with traditional spring compressors
