Here is a surprise package today. This one from our member @The Critic. 1/2 drive swivel impact sockets. Exactly one of the things I was needing too. And a perfect match for the 3/8 set I got as well. These will be put to good use. Very good quality too. And I thank The Critic very much for the sockets. It is appreciated greatly.

You guys gonna make me buy this set aren't you? Peer pressure is real.

I woulda had a new set of pliers delivered today but I work mids and the delivery required a signature and the UPS guy rings my doorbell with a 20ft pole then throws the SORRY WE MISSED YOU note on the door and takes off running as fast as he can.

Bought a cheap dc amp clamp meter on eBay for $15 to try to find a parasitic draw that kills the battery in my Mazda over a week or so (4th car isn't driven much). Wasn't expecting much but it does seem to zero and it does seem to get what appears to be at least semi-correct readings.

I took a road trip to Grizzly HQ and picked up a Grizzly G7944, it was the biggest drill press that would fit in my Jeep:

20230419_154444.jpg

I don't think it would have been a good value if I had to pay shipping, as I think it's the same drill press that Harbor Freight sells except maybe with a bigger motor to accommodate the slower pulley speeds available. Build quality seems to be Harbor Freight level. I had to chase some threads, motor needed a height adjustment out of the box but was able to be adjusted in spec.

Runout on the spindle is .001", ends up being .004" on the drill bit with the supplied chuck and arbor. I think that's pretty typical for this level of machinery so I'm keeping it. It should be more than adequate for my needs.

It looks just like my 30+ year old HF drill press except mine is painted all in green, otherwise it hasn't changed hardly at all, near as I can tell. I would have to get off my **** to check the motor and that ain't happening tonight.

Hey Blake, let me know how you like those 1/2" swivels after you get a chance to use them.

It's not an every day occurrence, but there have been a time or two where they would be more convenient to use.

Above is the Bestarc "2nd generation" 50 Amp cutter. I tried it out on some sheet metal and it cut very nicely. Seems to be well built for $249. I suspect the pressure regulator adjustment knob will likely fail and leak soon, and have little confidence the complicated electronics will last without issue. Most of these plasma cutters, including the Bestarc, are now coming with the 110 plug and including the 110/220 adapter. I prefer it to be the other way around: 220 plug with option to reduce to 110 with adapter.

This is my new cordless Pruning Shears unit. Supposedly has an 1000W brushless "all copper" motor. Supposedly cuts up to 1.6" branches. I tried it out today for a few minutes. Cuts 1"+ effortlessly. Has a small led display for battery % and number of cuts since powering on. Before I knew it, I made 149 cuts! And still had 98% battery remaining. Compared to using big loppers, this is much faster. It's nice having one hand free while cutting branches. This unit, which was $235, lived up to the reviews...so far. For really thick branches, I'll just use my Hackzall.

I added another Snap-On ratchet. The one in the middle is new - FHR80 3/8" Dual 80 soft grip quick release ratchet. Love Snap-On ratchets,20230419_142155 (002).jpg but they are expensive. I like the feel of the soft grip handle better and the ratchets is longer than the chrome grip version as you can see. I feels perfect in my hand and the right length. This will be my favorite go to ratchet.

Yay quick-release buttons!

For the price, they are a steal. Size-wise, they are comparable to the Matco pinless swivels. They are a bit stiffer than the Snap-On and Matco's, but their overall value is is unreal.

My Snap-on driver showed up for the first time in awhile actually. Showed up right as I clocked out for lunch. Luckily he had my power blue screwdriver that I lost. And I needed my magnet replaced too. So he took care of that for me. Since the screwdriver is not in the system he told me i could have it. They don’t have this color individually but he went thru some hoops to get them to send it so I appreciate that. He told them on the phone last time he was here he didn’t care if it was sold individually or not his customer needed it and they are going to send it. So I guess that worked haha. The magnet was warranty. I break those all the time so I get them from the tool trucks. I also got a Swedish pipe wrench too cause I like them for alignments. I can probably get them cheaper from the maker but since he is good about warranty stuff I just went ahead and got this one for $85 to go along with my smaller orange one. It’s not something I use a whole lot. He has a toolbox on there he is giving away so that purchase got me two tickets towards the box.

OK, @BlakeTheCarGuy...

I can understand the socket adapters, but how the hell are you breaking MULTIPLE pocket-sized pickup magnets??? They're not pry bars, please tell us you're not using them for that???

Glad your SO guy is good to you.

I know these aren't as good as an old usa/Europe drill press, but for someone like me that's been using a battery drill on the floor for the last 15 years, it's a revelation :ROFLMAO:

Picked up this Ridgid 14" heavy duty pipe wrench on Amazon at a great price of $27. Made in USA and a lifetime warranty. I don't do much plumbing work, but it might come in handy. I did not have a pipe wrench in the tool collection. 20230420_133909 (002).jpg

I use pipe wrenches for all sorts of things beyond plumbing, great weapon for your arsenal! Just be cognizant of the teeth marks it will leave.

Got these in the other day. It's pretty basic but they're my first nice/modern ratchets, a gift to myself :)

Honestly for the price paid I'm a little disappointed though. All three ratchets have random scuffs on the heads as if they were rubbing against eachother/something for months and the Chrome has some obvious pitting on the 1/4" ratchet. I also ordered online instead of off the truck and they all came in the same box no packing whatsoever (really?)

I got linked in with a SO guy through some mechanic friends so I'm probably just going to buy through him going forward

Yeah yeah yeah: they're tools, they're gonna get beat and won't stay new/shiny forever but the Icons I bought a few days later came perfect and individually boxed and they're less than half the price

A big surprise from the mail today. Not sure who sent me this but whoever did I thank them very much. I’m presuming it’s meant as a birthday gift. So far this is the best birthday week I’ve had in a long time lol. The big day is Sunday that’s when I turn 21. This is exactly what I wanted. The 3/8 fuel impact. I opened up the package and had the biggest smile on my face. I no longer have to use my air 3/8 that’s no good this is perfect here. So whoever sent this to me I thank you very much. I’ve wanted this for so long but just haven’t been able to get it so this really made my day and my week. This will pair perfectly with the sockets I got too.

Awesome gift! Now you won't have to use those fragile 1/2 to 3/8 impact adapters.

@Astro_Pneumatic_Tools when is the US release?

I've been waiting for the release of this Astro ratcheting wrench since I saw this thread last year.

It finally went on sale in Taiwan(Astro Taiwan branch) last Friday. I purchased one and it arrived today. It's 100-tooth and about 455mm(17-7/8") long. Chrome socket set includes 13~19, 21, 22, 24mm. Very happy with it. 😄

I was gonna buy a few because I rarely see em at this price point, but I thought I'd share instead of hoarding like usual...
