USB rechargeable head worklight.
I like that I don't need those expensive AAA batteries. Uses my phone charger, tiny LED changes from red to green when fully chg.
Also like that I can turn it on and off with a wave of my hand, thats very handy when its on a welding helmet and you're all suited and gloved up ready to weld but need to turn it on. No need to take helmet off and try to find the button, just wave hello and it switches.
Its extremely bright, I flashed myself, its almost like getting flashed by a welder. $13.

Alkaline batteries do seem expensive anymore! I wear an LED headlamp most of the time in the shop. Mine's a li'l old fashioned, which I like, because modern ones seem like too much light for what I'm doing.

I buy rechargeable batteries and always have some stewing on this charger:

That hand-wave feature sounds neat.

Are you aware of the industrial practical joke involving LED welding helmets and somebody creeping up behind you with a piece of cardboard?

Sounds like you were a twin of one of my ex-girlfriends... I had to call the Poison Control Center because she sprayed herself with mace because she "wondered what it smelled like."

Can't make that stuff up...

Had a very intelligent but sometimes kinda stupid coworker who did that, but just sprayed a tiny amount into a trash can at work. Emptied out that whole section of the floor.

Some more goodies came in the mail today, unfortunately one package was somehow damaged by... fire? How hell does that happen USPS

The Good:

NOS Armstrong Punch set from Cripes
xDxxj9H.jpg
Snap On SGDX40BR Mini Screwdriver set
5K0To6J.jpg

The Bad:

Snap On 85ACF. Damaged by fire somehow in shipping. Handles have melt damage, pliers are scared up on one side, and before I cleaned them, they were covered in soot. What the heck USPS?

I was at the shop in Houston (Rusty's Automotive) where I take things that I either can't do (alignments) or don't have the time to do. His shop does really good work and I've never felt like he was trying to upsell me. I've also referred some customers to him, one in particular that I know has paid about $4,000 for work in the last year or so. I ask Rusty when the Snap-on guy comes by and he tells me. I say that I'm looking for some pliers and don't want to pay the $25 shipping from the website. He says, "I know the exact pliers that you're talking about, let me show you." He then takes me back in the shop and hands me these pliers and says, "Keep them. I'll get another pair on Monday." I was flabbergasted, and he wouldn't take them back or accept payment! He says that he doesn't advertise and the only way he gets new business is from referrals.

So, if you're anywhere near BW8 and IH10 in Houston, TX and need a shop then I really recommend them.

Lucky. Only truck guys and ebay has em right now. I asked my SO guy (not a truck guy) and he said it still shows as a promotional item. I managed to snag the green ones that just went back ordered again.

That is a bummer but they don't look too badly damage. Did you let David know and see if he had insurance on it?
USPS says there was no insurance on it, but the seller is working with me so we will see what happens. The pliers are still functional, it just ***** that you buy a new pair of nice cutters and the postal service somehow manages to burn a hole in the packaging.

I was going to go the eBay route because there are some sellers only charging ~$10 for shipping but I knew the truck stopped at this shop and thought that it would be easy to pop over there and get a pair. I obviously haven't had a chance to use them, yet, but everything I've read and seen about them leads me to believe that they are first class.

I have the Koken extended spark plug sockets. Love them.

Koken 3:8 Extension 14mm Spark Plug Socket 250mm 3300C.250-14.JPGKoken 3:8 Extension 16mm Spark Plug Socket 250mm 3300C.250-16.png
I've got some spark plug jobs coming up, don't have a decent 5/8" spark plug socket, and you all have convinced myself I need one of these. Would you guys recommend the magnet, or the clip? Length of 180mm, or 250mm? Current application would be on a Toyota V8 (2UZ-FE), and a Toyota I4 (1ZZ-FE). Thanks for any advice!

I don’t have experience with a magnet. Just the old school rubber insert and these Kokens that use the clip.

The clip is super secure.

I have the clip version and love it. I've done plugs on a number of Toyota/Lexus V8s and I'd go with the shorter one as the clearances can sometimes be pretty tight, especially in the sedans (I realize your 2UZ is in a truck). Can always add a locking extension if you need it.

mosquitos drive me nuts in the garage, maybe this will keep them under control.
What does everyone else use.

Wow, that brings back memories of camping with my parents and grandparents in the 70s and 80s. Hours of entertainment listening to all the bugs getting zapped by those things on every other campsite. When a big one hit, it would seem to dim all nearby lights, LOL...

Just arrived via eBay, pretty nice for the price. Has the euro finish on them. I do like the spring loaded u-joint.97254BC8-7781-4F8B-A1FD-30A6D2005AB3.jpeg

I don't see a u-joint. That crow's foot looking thing is interesting.

Thanks, guys! Good info and useful advice. I've never used anything but the rubber inserts and results have been mixed. And I'm skeptical of magnets here too. I was leaning towards the shorter clip version and your advice backs that up. (y)

I had a coworker 25 years ago who once tried Ipecac syrup to see what it tasted like. He found out what it tasted like going down and coming right back up.

Now that I'm slightly more awake, the tool I'm talking about looks like a cross between a basin wrench and a crow's foot. That should come in handy.

You should see what happens if taken rectally.

On topic: I use a lot of AA Lithium batteries... Enigizer price went to over $3 each... found a 3rd party supplier.... 48 batteries arrived. If they work out well... I will let everyone know.

I thought if it had tracking there was default $100 in insurance but it looks like that is only with Priority Shipping.

A buddy of mine who happens to work for the USPS on the East Coast told me this morning, that in order for it to get to me in that condition, basically 5 quality checks had to be ignored/not done at all. Essentially when it got to the local carrier in the "Oopsie" Bag (he said that is what they call it): The carrier should have reported it to their supervisor, who should have contacted the Postmaster General of the region, document the damage and then contact me about it. Evidently those final steps never happened along with all the other checks and balances that should have happened from the time it left Illinois until it got to my door.

I've had tons of issues with my local office, as have my neighbors, so them failing the final check in the process is not surprising. I've had packages get lost only to show months later after a claim had been filed.

For those who are curious. The u-joint is spring loaded and self centers. No more electrical tape. Works well. The “adjustable crows foot” as they call it also has a spring to keep tension on it.F4198241-50B0-4E28-964A-87455B9F57BD.jpeg
I love this idea.

Pines, I just put up two of the outdoor ones that take lithium batteries. What kinda life can I expect out of them?
Depends... if you have them 100% armed... and you get "Hourly" activity... several weeks
daily activity (once or twice)... several months.
(once or twice a week)... should last 3-5 months.

I get 3 or 4 deliveries to my front porch each week... I have two cameras there. It was SUMMER the last time I changed one of the camera batteries. The other camera there... gets more activity because we have an outdoor cat... it lasts 2+ months.

My mailbox cameras (2) gets you coming and going... of every vehicle and passer by. Lasts 5 or 6 weeks.

My ground level "skunk camera".... 20+ one minute videos every night... lasts 2 - 3 weeks.

I also have inside cameras ... PLUGGED into USB power that never die. I keep batteries in them as well... to foil those that think ... no power... get by the security.
