I occasionally wish I had got the chrome Cobras instead of black - this doesn't help. 😜

Found these on Amazon (shipped from Amazon UK) for the same price as the black ones. The little guys were a mistake though. Thought I had ordered the 7" model and was pretty surprised when the 5" showed up :ROFLMAO:

My gauge gave out at a bad time so a new one takes its place,IMG_2509.jpeg
I've had the digital version for several years and love it. Just cause I'm lazy like this - the upside being I can capture up to 10 cylinders worth of readings, then write them down. I do offer one very important suggestion, Make sure to dab a little anti seize on all the adapters threads. It'll catch you off guard how easy a finger snug can over tighten them and you'll twist the hell out of the flex line getting them loose.

Gleman, if you're the least bit ADD about an open peg - you will rue the day you bought those things.

I know it took me forever for find 5/8 and 15mm 1/4" drives in deep and shallow. And good gawt damn luck finding medium depth in 1/2" drive :spit:

Yep, I saw the price and bought without thinking it all the way through.

IMG20230624170503.jpgI had been doing aluminum rails at the other house, to keep myself organized and the ADD at bay.

I'll either give them to a kid in the neighborhood or look for a new box.

That's a hell of an investment for some moving around a bit. I'm jealous. I had a similar situation and got the plates @ HF. Much less fun (but it worked).

Looks like a new box is the answer, I hate clip rails!

Upgrade/replacement for a couple of tools I may have actually worn out. Bike pedal wrench and cassette lockring tool.
My old pedal wrench was fitting a little loose. I measured it and it is worn. It was also shorter than the replacement. The cassette tool I have doesn't have a pin and I used to use an adapter to get a 3/8 drive breaker bar on it. Not ideal, but worked for many years for me. It was fitting a little loose as well.

Figured go big or go home. My arm strength isn't going to increase so the leverage will help too. Foundation cassette lockring tool with pin and handle as a single unit. Park Heavy duty pedal wrench. Bike guys will understand. Non-bike guys will think these look like medieval battle implements. I do have a couple of chain whips for bike tools as well, but those aren't new.

Today has been a good week and a nice little haul of German and Japanese tools came in the mail for me.

I got:

Knipex 8” Forged Wire Strippers
Product #13 72 8

They have a great hand feel, very smooth operation, and their stripping/cutting abilities seem great.

I was able to cut through 1 AWG copper wire with ease (ok, I had to use both hands but it was way better than having to use a ratcheting cable cutter like I would have had to normally) and I was able to strip 6 inches of sheathing on a 10 AWG copper wire with ease. This would have been impossible using the Klein strippers I am accustomed to. The locking mechanism is smooth and ergonomic and easily done with one hand.

Lobtex/Lobster Needle Nose Pliers
Product #J1 50RS

Small but seemingly well built, the spring is responsive and the pliers have a smooth action, their small size is nice, I used them a few times to wrangle some 10 AWG copper in that were in small junction boxes as well as remove my lumber crayon from a deep pocket in my tool belt. They are also light as a feather which is nice seeing as I wear my belt 6-8 hours per day.

Lobtex/Lobster Neijianguirus, Tri-grip plier type TG-NA
Product #TG200NA

A few weeks ago a screw I was trying to remove got cammed out and dealing with its removal led me to searching out screw removing pliers, I found these ones mentioned in a YouTube video and because the price was right I ordered them.

I haven’t had the chance to use them either as a screw remover or as regular slip joint pliers, but they operate well, feel good in my hand, and appear to be of quality construction. I’m sure they will get a good amount of use in the future.

Stabila Pocket Pro Magnetic level
UPC #089634119012

Bought this guy on a whim, was tired of my Klein 935 level taking up a whole pocket in my tool pouch, plus the middle vial consistently having bubbles that require a good shake to remove which has been very annoying.

The construction of the level seems to be very good. I like the small size and the belt clip holder it came with. This will free up space in my tool pouch and should come in handy when I need it and I’m on a ladder. I’m in the solar installation/electrical field so this is a daily occurrence and I literally only measure the level of conduit on a 0° or 90° basis so the level only having one vial is good enough for me.

I’m really looking forward to Monday to be able to test all these out in the field (already used the needle nose pliers for a few days and have been happy with their performance), I’m pretty confident they will work as intended and make my work go smoother.

Edit: Fixed a spelling error

Koken Father's Day sale:

I was gifted pretty much every standard Koken extenstion in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2. I was curious about their wobble-fixed extensions so all I did is buy the smallest of the 1/4 and 3/8. Figured I could put these at the end of any extension and now it's a wobble-fixed.

1/4 Wobble Fix Extension 28mm 2763-28
3/8 Wobble Fix Extension 32mm 3763-32

Also picked up the flexible extension in both 1/4 and 3/8

1/4 Flexible Extension 2762
3/8 Flexible Extension 3762

And lastly I picked up the 10pc 3/8 nut grip socket set and supplemented it with the 8mm, 16mm and 18mm individual nut grip sockets.

Koken 3/8 Nut Grip Socket 10-22mm RS3450M/10
3Y50M-8
3Y50M-16
3Y50M-18

And from Woot I picked up a couple of Dewalt 20v batteries: Powerstack and a compact 4ah.

Pocket up some GripEdge SAE hex bits in 1/4" and 3/8" drive. Looking forward to comparing them with my Proto sets.
IMG_20230627_082441.jpg
Also grabbed the Lisle 70500 tap socket set and the 38350 exhaust removal pliers.
IMG_20230627_082151.jpg
And the score of the day, the Proto 5020M deep 12-pt 3/8"drive 20mm socket for $1.42 with free shipping from good ol' Amazon. No clue why it was so cheap...

Huzzah! Found a custom-fit funnel for the Ford Transit 3.5 liter (without turbo.) A bit fussy and fiddly to get it in, but that might be because of the evap and brake parts bumping into the funnel as you try to do it.

To buy Assenmacher could easily be double, if not triple, the price, and theirs appears to be all-plastic, too. For the time being, I'm happy with this sub-$20 funnel! Given the price of Red Line Oil, I'm all for giving each bottle a good drip this way.

COO Taiwan, IIRC.

I bought those wire strippers about a year ago after suffering for years using the flat El Cheapo wire strippers from an auto parts store. Replaced 60-odd outlets in my house with them...I love 'em!

Gotta love the "non-electric" Amish... Picked this up from Kiem Lumber in Charm.

Uses DeWalt or Milwaukee batteries.

A clever troublemaker could whisper in some Amish ears and make them realize that what they need to do is split into pro-Tesla and pro-Edison factions.

Ko-ken 1/4" drive stuff - Metric (7-14mm) and SAE (1/4" - 9/16") nut grip sockets and 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, and 14mm z series.

20230627_152825.jpg

I haven't used any yet, but I'm super impressed so far, especially the Z series. They make the Snap-on 1/4" drive sockets seem gargantuan.

Can’t put a wrench on them? Wondering how those work compared to a pass through 1/4” socket?

No, they're just very short 1/4" drive sockets. I'd like to see a comparison also.
I use the heck out of the 8 & 10 mm pass through snap on 1/4” sockets. Ratchet is better than a wrench though. The one that comes with the snap on set *****, I just use a ratcheting 11mm on them.

Koken Father’s Day deal. The entire SAE set of the 81mm 3/8 drive sockets that a few of you posted. I 3D printed a rail to hold them.

I found out that metric step drill bits exist, and although I have never needed one ever, I suddenly realized they were a “must have”, and since I had a coupon code from Drill Hog, why not.

Step bits are kind of a pain to store, so I just use empty pill vials.

Got this awesome rechargeable neck light off the Matco truck today. 600 lumens he also had 300 but the 600 was a heck of a lot brighter. Includes a dual charger for both sides. Love it. Just about everyone in the shop has one. And it’s blue so that’s a huge plus too. Not too heavy either.
What are they getting for that off the truck? Thanks.

Well **** that picture might have just sold me on those sockets. Not really a huge fan of the satin finish, but those are SHORT!

What advantage do these zeal short sockets have? I understand they're a space saver but what can they do that a pass through socket or ratcheting wrench can't do?

Snap-on mini pick and O-ring/seal remover set, 90 degree needle nose pliers, and 3/8" drive 10mm torque adapter.

20230628_163505.jpg

The Snap-on torque adapter sure is porky, I guess they make em fatter and fatter until the warranty replacements stop coming in...

I can put them on a flex head 12" ratchet, cordless/air ratchets, wobble extensions, etc. They give you the thickness of an offset wrench or pass thru socket, with the flexibility of every ratchet and drive tool in your box.
