a discussion about the price of brass brushes came up in the vise thread earlier.
Dollar Tree: 3 for $1.25 but only one brass brush - one steel and one plastic bristle also.
ACE Hardware: 3 for $4.99 - has an odd "end brush" thingie which looks like it might be handy.
haven't checked Harbor Freight yet.
I think that final brush may be intended for the spark plugs, but that's just a guess.

Someone posted either earlier on this thread or in another about good short-nose needle nose pliers and suggested the Merry Y75-225. The best price I could find on these was from what looks to be the US rep for the company https://www.nilemerry.com.

I went a little overboard looking through their catalog.
  • CT305-8 Diagonal Cutting Nippers (carbide tipped)
  • PC1 PC Forming Pliers (for bending lead wires)
  • PC2 PC Forming Pliers (for bending lead wires)
  • JR60 Clip Pliers (spring loaded)
  • JR80 | Clip Pliers
  • Y75-225 | Heavy-duty semi-long nose pliers
No, I don't need most of those, and I bought them anyway.

I discovered fully loaded knuckles myself this year. I started a DIY brake job on my Explorer, one of the rear e-brake backing plates rotted through. To replace that, you have to remove the knuckle, and press out the bearing (there are no 2-piece replacement backing plates that I could find). Not remotely worth the effort...

Mike

Yes those are fantastic but I’ve found they’re generally only available for knuckles with press in bearings like you described. This Subaru has bolt in hubs, so I’ll essentially just be assembling my own fully loaded knuckles and slapping them in.

But they're all... different brands!

Yeah - it was kinda a confluence of needed a pair or two, hating the weirdness of the ones I had, all the buzz about Malco and the death of their revived DeWitt product and seeing a crappy-but functional Pittsburgh at HF that I didn't even want to spend five bucks on but impressed by the Bremen that was on the shelf above it for eight. Then I went looking for original Peterson and seeing they were somewhere in the middle. So I decided to get them all. I added the Milwaukee because it seemed to have a similar function that the LockJaw had (easy release), but hopefully better.

Skipping to the end, I'd say the easy choices are the vintage Peterson or the Bremen. With Epstein selling the Malco for $30 instead of $40-something, I decided to grab a 10" and a second pair of 7", but obviously that won't last much longer. If I'm reading what Epstein is saying correctly, they've gotten a couple shipments from Malco that are the last they'll get (one of those might still be enroute).

I don't care much for the Milwaukee and the Pittsburgh is functional but that's about it. I'll keep the vintage Peterson pairs (I got lucky and won a 7" and 10" for what most are asking for just a 7") and the Bremen in the travel set.

Got a few things. Been a long time since I bought anything.

10" Curved, 10" Flat, 7" Curved and 7" Flat Malco's, Powerbuilt short breake1/2", some Noco terminal pads and a tool belt.

Small pile of USA made stuff. Nothing fancy. Tool boxes are cool. Proto and I think a Huot.

UsedToolLot.jpg
A mixed lot of stuff. Actually got this awhile ago and forgot about it in a Craftsman 13" tool bag.

I’m impressed you’re repairing a brake cylinder!

the repair kit is only $1.05 and a new brake cylinder a whopping $2.52 ..... i´m not rich ....
😁

if it´s repairable i´d like to try it first.....

^ I didn't think people even used those things any more!

funny we had to stock three different brands - couldn't keep 'em in stock! go figure.
surveys show that 57.4% of Garagejournal members use these tools weekly 😁;)

Can I chip in with one I did NOT buy yesterday? If the moderator wants to award ******* off the week/month/year gongs, then I'm it.
Saw a carry tray with Snap on stickers, maybe 60's or 70's style. Wanted £20. Not sure it was kosher, didn't look underneath for the
pressed numbers, date and SO Kenosha W I etc.
Had a trawl and definitely a Snap on SPP 625.
I am incandescent with (self) rage.

I wanted a decent set of 3/8" drive impact swivel sockets, and didn't want to break the bank. I grabbed these on Ebay. Proto Blackhawk 3/8" Impact Universal Swivel Flex Socket Set Metric 12 piece- (U-1512MS)

another member mentioned these so I picked up a set for a buddy of mine - no idea how they'll work out. they are significantly shorter than the "Tekton" 1/4" drive 6-pt shallow sockets that I compared them with. Less than $20 bucks out the door at O'Reilly's.
Note they are hex-shaped at the drive end so they can be turned with a wrench, which might come in handy.
