Got some Tekton ratcheting wrenches to fill out the bigger sizes. The chrome 6pt is the old clearance stuff, the satin 12pt is the newer. The newer is MUCH better than the old, had I know that I would have eaten the price difference....still both good wrenches though.

Edit: I meant the newer mechanism on the 12pts is WAY better than the older 6pt, just to clarify.

I have the 46's, and got them because I thought the 47's were bigger than I'd want if I was only going to have one of the two. That photo would say I made the right decision (for me).

Here's a pic of the 47's in my hand. Not as big as you may think. Definitely beefy though. I like em!

I’ve come to realize that I just want some tools for the nostalgia of them. I think it comes from building hot rods with friends fresh out of high school. We used a lot of those wrenches and speeder wrenches. I still remember learning to torque the heads on the 327 in my dads 68 Camaro. Could be the reason I’m kinda ocd about torque values on anything important.

Rockler had a "buy one, get another at 50% off" router bit sale. Bought 6 in total.

Sad part was it was in-store only. I was in the store on Thursday as I had a dentist appointment in the area - about 40 minutes from home.
Friday, I get the email advertising the sale Friday-Sunday. Dang! Have to drive back.

Good part is I had been looking at bits Thursday but didn't pull the trigger. That would have ticked me off.

So, it all worked out in the end.

Also bought a 32-piece pegboard hook assortment - part of their 25% off all Rockler branded product sale.

I had been on the lookout for a used set but most of them that came up were as expensive as a new set. I don’t go up to the big sizes every day so these will last me a long time hopefully.

New hammer handles. There's only a handful of companies left in this world that will be able to provide you with a part # and a local supplier for a replacement anything. These are at least 50 years old and Gray tools went the extra mile again! I hope they see another 50 years.

My little casio TV that I used for testing CCTV cameras and other composite video/audio signals finally bit the big one. I wanted a new portable LCD, but I wanted something that could do HDMI and VGA too. I found this lil' chinese wonder:



It has HDMI and VGA inputs, Audio input, RS485 (PTZ control), and the USB charging input on the bottom, Composite video BNC connections on the top, USB 5VDC and 12VDC outputs to power cameras and other devices off the internal battery. It also has a flashlight, and a network cable tester:



The network cable tester is just a continuity tester with a loopback plug. Handy, but nothing special:


Being able to power a camera from the internal battery is very handy!


The HDMI/VGA input is nice and clear too. It will be nice to be able to quickly connect to servers in a rack using only one cable:


All in all, this will be a super-handy tool. It has a carry bag and a neck strap too, so it can hang easily when climbing a ladder.

Haven’t been disappointed in any of the Craftsman v-series offerings. Ratchets have gone way down in price from 3rd party sellers on Amazon. This one is $33, with the FACOM going for a third more. Kind of sketchy though, because I received the 3/8th drive side of what was originally a two pack 3/8th and 1/2. Cardboard hanger cut right down the middle. Must have been some kind of dealer promotion from Stanley on the two packs.

Here’s my recent haul from the last few weeks, including Black Friday. I think I’m set for a bit, at least until I find something I can’t live without!

Facom reversible ratcheting wrench set - I waited to see Tekton’s new line and ended up going with these. Purchased from Mister Worker and were 25% off on a pre-BF deal. I really like the finish on these.

Koken nut grip 3/8” 8-19 set from KokenUSA. I’m not sure if the (almost) complete set is a new offering but it’s the first time I noticed it. Most other sets had several skips and this one is only missing the 9mm.

3/8 drive SK LP90 - I was in KC on Black Friday visiting family so I had to call Epstein’s to see if they were open. They were so I dropped my lady off at some shops and she gave me about an hour to drive over and pay them a visit. Picked this up as I wanted a good miUSA ratchet to go with my Japan and German options. I will note that the lever actions is a little clunky, but overall it’s good.

18” miUSA steel ruler - also picked this up from HJE. Didn’t “need” it but I thought it was cool and would be useful at some point in time.

Milwaukee m12 right angle die grinder - have wanted one of these for a while and deal HD was running netted me this and two batteries for $140 after returning the “free” gift.

Huepar HM03CG laser level - I have some upcoming projects where this will come in handy. It was a bit of an impulse but the brand had good reviews and Amazon had a 20% off coupon which made it come in just under $100 with tax.

New Felo pliers: part 2.

My first pair had the finish coming off when I was handling it. I was going to wait a bit to swap them at amazon but I didn't trust that amazon wouldn't send me another pair just like the first. I eventually sent a midnight email to Felo and by the time I fell asleep they were sending me new pliers. Some of the quickest customer service I've experienced. They arrived about a week later from Bondhus. I honestly didn't expect to get any warranty support since I bought it off amazon and wasn't even aware they had Bondhus for support in the USA.

Took about 10 minutes to get the opening and closing super smooth.

$12 pink duratech tool mats came too.

The rest of the sockets are assorted USA craftsman and the wrenches are USA craftsman and some older gearwrench stuff. The tool bag and the rest of its contents are going in the yard sale pile.

Cutting capacity on "medium hard" wire is 2.2mm.

Those carpenter's nippers/nail pullers by Knipex are actually fairly priced, for Knipex! (Price goes up with size, of course. And of course, if Knipex charges $23 for this, some other brand will sell you one for $12.) I've only used mine a little, but I like them.

U-Haul won't rent to me, as I drive a Ford Explorer. They're still miffed about the Gen 1 & Gen 2 rollover history (even though my current Explorer is Gen 3, and I had a Gen 1 that had a right rear tire de-tread at 70 mph, but not roll over...).

Yes, they do have nice trailer options.

Got myself a liquid level from Speedway Motors. Fairly well made, brutally simple.

Bought one of these years ago for a friend of mine and his corner balancing scales for his race car preparation, which is how they're marketed. Price has crept up since, and I'll be using this for some landscaping/drainage work.

Black bases are solid plastic with female threaded holes for the brass barbs.




This baffled me for a while, then I checked the Speedway website and the flakes in this vial are dye for the water. Last time we just used yellow Prestone windshield washer fluid.




Two downsides to this: on each tube, an inch is half an inch of distance. Also, potential meniscus effect affecting an accurate view. But it's fast and easy and gets you pretty darned close with ease.

So I put a bid of 19€ on an online auction lot at the weekend which I won so I collected it today. The description was “Tool box and contents” but is was the box itself that caught my eye and I could see a soldering iron on the top which I needed. The box seems to be an old military radio or battery case and I was pleasantly surprised with the contents which I would value at around 150€. There was a small Nippy engineers vise in it along with everything else.
