Just picked up this HF Rivet nut setter kit. It looks very well made and with 25% off what is not to like. It comes with 3 SAE and 3 Metric sized Rivet nut mandrels and 10 each of the 6 individual rivnut sizes. The hard plastic case seems decent and practical. I am looking forward to using it.

I do now wonder if I can use standard riv nuts from McMaster or Grainer to work with this tool. The doculentation that came with it was very limited and honestly, not very good.

I am also wondering if I can get the specs on what the min and max material thickness these will work with and recommended hole diameters for each size. I am sure I can back in to some of this but if someone has already acquired the knowledge I would appreciate you sharing it so my learning curve is improved. Thanks.

I grabbed these, the 12" and 21" sizes. I made two trips, and was able to fill two vehicles with cheaper gas than close to my house. They appear to be well made and will come in handy. Tough to pass on with the 25% off coupon.

Milwaukee M12/M18 multi charger. Happy to clean up the mess of individual chargers I’ve had up until now. Hopefully I can sell some of them to offset the cost of this.



Also, grabbed the Badland 12k winch with the current 25% off coupon. Im going to get a receiver mount for it (all the stores near me are OOS, and that item isn’t available online, so I’ll probably miss getting that 25% off) and add a 2” receiver to my trailer for winching disabled vehicles onto it. My Jeep also has front and rear 2” receivers so I’ll be able to use it there as well if needed.

Got this new Craftsman 26 inch toolbox from Ace Hardware today. Every year my Ace Hardware stores have a 50% off sale on Labor Day and New Year’s Eve and day so I take advantage. This is the only “tool” I got because I got stuff for grilling and smoking too. Since all my toolboxes are full at home I wanted something I can transfer some of the tools into permanently so the cardboard boxes won’t collapse anymore lol. For $21 can’t beat that. Had to go to three stores to find this.

Got this new Craftsman 26 inch toolbox from Ace Hardware today. Every year my Ace Hardware stores have a 50% off sale on Labor Day and New Year’s Eve and day so I take advantage. This is the only “tool” I got because I got stuff for grilling and smoking too. Since all my toolboxes are full at home I wanted something I can transfer some of the tools into permanently so the cardboard boxes won’t collapse anymore lol. For $21 can’t beat that. Had to go to three stores to find this.

I *think* these are made in Israel and very similar (i.e. from the same company) to the modern USAG/Facom portable tool boxes that are manufactured in polymer plastic.

A buddy I had lunch with the other day lives close to a HF, and I stopped in to see what might inspire me at 25% off. And left empty-handed...

They didn't have the shorter Icon 3/8" flex head ratchet, which I might have picked up, but the other stuff "on my list" is not near-term stuff.

Except maybe the Holt Brake bleeder/filler...

I am super impressed with these vim tools ddf100 dual sided flex box wrenches. I have not used them much yet. But they are well finished and have been fantastic in limited use. The set appears to be a shorter and improved version of the extra long apex flex box set that are carried my many brands. Offset on one end to provide clearance. Very compact heads to fit in tight places with a better positioned reversing toggle that you will not accidently hit like with the long handle apex sets. The flex ends are indexed with a ball + spring providing just right tension to move while not being floppy. I think they should also be more durable since they are close to standard lengths. The heads fit in tight spots much better than usual flex box ends of combination ratchet wrenches.

Those look good; sometimes you need the offset ring for clearance, sometimes you don't, and reversible is good. From your picture, it looks like the smallest and largest wrench are spline drive, and the rest are 12 point?

Sorry ... I am not sure. I am not at home now to look but will try to remember to check later. I pulled a stock photo from VIM but I thought they were all spline drive like the usual Apex long handle variants. They worked/fit well with my limited trials. I do not think spline itself is a problem when sized ok not to be "universal". I never have apex-style spline split even with suspension nuts on rust belt cars where I live. They would mark up chromed fastners more than standard wrenches but that is also true of most enhanced grip types.

To me these correct the main defects of the long handled apex models: floppy heads, too weak/fragile due to the long long lengths, and reverse button being too easy to bump. The shorter length is either a plus or minus depending on the application.

One reason I bought these is I wanted flex box end ratcheting which almost always comes in combination style wrenches. But I very rarely use the open ends on combination sets (and I have plenty of them when I need) and I love the apex wrenches in spite of the issues noted above this set fixes. For ordinary use the extra long apex sets can be too long. This set hits pretty much all my needs spot on.

I also feel VIM should have made this set 10-19 mm no skips, with a fixed boxed end on one side and a reversible flex head on the other side. I have a 98 xtra cab and an 04 double cab. The 98 has an Old Man Emu all around

The 04 has most of the suspension sitting in my parts pile. Just looking to dial in the rear leaf springs (not going with OME hopefully). Front = Kings coil overs, set up for mostly on of road comfort with off road capability.

Exactly. I was amped to buy these when I first saw them. Without a no-skips set, they have no value to me.

18 mm is pretty rare in my experience and I can cover the exceptions other ways. But I would have preferred 18 mm over 9 mm in the set.

Well, I had to go back and use the coupon again and settled on the Flex Head ratchet. As I was taking the picture, I decided I actually wanted the 3/8” drive version. I went back to exchange them, but thought ‘why not use another coupon and just get the 3/8” ones?’ That’s what I did!!! I may need help …

A few Gift card arrivals. First off, a Wera 411ARA ratcheting 1/4 square drive Tee Handle and a Pair of Knipex 0821185 combination needle nose pliers. I've used the shorter version of these pliers for quite awhile now and was quite happy to see them released in 185 mm trim. A very handy pair indeed.
A dangerous combination to me is a Harbor Freight gift card combined with a 25% off coupon. Next up is a 17 inch version of the newly released ICON S-Jaw quick adjust pliers wrench. Model PQA-17, item 59836. This one might be too new for their website. The very helpful clerk couldn't find the 12 or 24 inch version I asked about but, found the 17 inch long version. It's uncommon to find a Harbor Freight employee that will actually go the extra mile to look for tools but, it does happen.
Unlike other ICON tools, this quick adjust pliers wrench is manufactured in China. We'll see how they shake out.

What are you using those gloves with? Do you think they would work using a random orbit sander?

I am long overdue for having any type of anti-vibration gloves. I wish I had them 25 years ago when I started out. No in my early forties, I sometimes feel the effects in my hands/fingers.

I will use them anytime I am using the air hammer, DA sander, needle scaler or any other tool that gives tha hands a good jolt. I'm sure they're not the cure but certainly going to absorb some of it.

I found out a while back that those at any length are great for getting sawdust in both eyes even with safety glasses on
