I purchased (2) DeWalt portabands on eBay @$75 each plus around $20 for shipping. One needed tires, the other was good to go right out of the box. Both were from liquidators from big construction jobs that had multiple saws for sale. . One was orange and one was hot pink. Lacquer thinner took care of that.

SO THLFD72 in classic red. Also got the Lisle tool as I’m tired of seeing it here, and knowing I didn’t have it caused me to lose sleep. IMG_7352.jpeg
I have that ratchet with QD and it’s one of my most used ratchets when working on motorcycles.

Also picked up those pliers a bit ago, I have the merry version but I’m looking forward to breaking some connectors with these also.

FedEx man just dropped off a couple things. M18 hatchet w/6.0ah battery & charger kit, 24" hedge trimmer, and the ubiquitous M18 drill and driver combo. Still waiting on the 8.0ah battery that came free with the drill/driver combo.

Initial impressions: Turns out I'm out of bar oil so couldn't try it but I think the hatchet will prove extremely handy. Tried the hedge trimmer briefly with a charged 5.0ah battery on hand and it cuts well, that will be a nice upgrade from the old school manual hedge clippers I used. I have an older brushed M18 drill and driver combo so this new set will compliment that. The driver is slightly smaller and lighter than the old one, the biggest difference is the drills, crazy the size and weight difference.

I bid on this online auction lot last night, and won it for $48! A 2.5 hour round trip over the mountains to the west this afternoon and I was back home. To my surprise, there was a 3rd socket set under the SK! Plus usa-made drill bits

This was the pic from the auction
1000234422.jpg

I could tell the one set was mostly SK

1000234417.jpg

But it also contained a number of snap-on sockets, a bonney adapter, and a Mac extension

1000234421.jpg

The next box: the 5 biggest are snap-on 1/2" sockets, 3 Bonney, and 1 New Britain socket

1000234418.jpg

This was the surprise one!

1000234419.jpg

6 Thorsen sockets, 1 ZTH?, and 1 wizard

And a pretty wide range of drills

What cleaning solution will you use?
I have PSC1000 from Tractor Supply in my parts washer, I've been happy with that.

In the ultrasonic I'm going to try a "Ultrasonic Cleaning Solution for carb/fuel injector/auto parts" from Northwest Enterprises and see how that works out. It'll be my first time using that. Comes as a concentrate in a 1G jug, dilute 5x with water.

Jumped on these after seeing them on tiktok. They were delivered to my neighbors house, but he dropped them off this morning.IMG_4033.jpeg
Which one would everyone get for the first pair? I watched some YouTube videos to see what connectors they would work on.

I have a 2011 Tacoma. I was wondering what tool to do the work and then it shows up here.

Thanks

No idea such a thing existed. Looks like it will work for Scott Rags in a Box, which I've been struggling with. Off to shop for one.
Yea not exactly cheap at $39, helps I recently cashed out some get upside for Amazon gift cards I used for some lisle pliers and these magnets.

I prefer the angled pliers, it’s also spring loaded which is a plus, the straight pair is not and would be more difficult to get into tight spots.

I thought that one of those ratchet screw drivers that looks more like a socket ratchet would be useful so I found one of the discontinued Tekton #2888 (I posted previously). This works, and I expect that all of these are equally horrid (from a socket wrench perspective) yet usable.

tekton_01.jpg

OK, so it works and can get into tight spaces, etc. The action is a bit on the horrid size, which I believe to be true for all of this particular variety. I should probably start an entire thread about how to "oil" it! :)

Well, it is useful and I like the integrated 1/4" socket on the back, I thought that the ICON Locking Flex Head Ratchet and Bit Set, 35-Piece (RXFT-35) was something to try since it receives so much good press. I have looked at it a few times but it is always out of stock near me, but then Harbor Freight offered me a coupon that took it from $40 down to $25. So I bought one.

icon_01.jpg

This exceeds my every expectation. As pictured I dropped in the adapter that allows me to connect a socket rather than just bits. I cannot believe I was able to buy this for $25. This is really nice!

I thought that there couldn’t be a better time to finally pull the trigger on Epstein’s famous tank periscope. Hermetically sealed in a metalized bag since 1955. Really enjoyed unpacking this time capsule. Optics were in perfect condition. The desiccant still had some capacity left. They gained about 10 g of moisture sitting out of my countertop.

Used a couple of lock washers to get the slop out of one those cheap HF snap ring pliers kits. Almost never use these things but still couldn't stand that like spring/cotter pin setup they come with. Solid as a rock now.

I have 2 Lakeside SS restaurant style carts. While on a 2-day battle with a stuck pulley on a motor shaft. One cart ended up bent to ****. I was determined to dump these and buy something heavy duty or build a couple. I lucked out and spotted a Little Giant 18 X 30 welded cart on FB. Exactly what I needed, in excellent condition and only $25 bucks! ( over $300 shipped from Zoro ) Just picked it up today. Not a pair like I'd hoped to find, but a killer deal just the same.

Bought this Sunex set at Amazon ($80). It's not a premium quality set of tools, but it is a good quality set. Made in Taiwan. Chrome plating is nicely done, and there are no off-center broaches at the box end. Orientation of the square opening is consistent among all 10 of the adapters.

The box end is a little thicker than in a premium tool. In the 18mm size, the OD of the Sunex box end is 1.5mm larger than the box end of the Hazet 600N combination wrench. Sunex does not advertise the 12pt box end as having an "enhanced" profile to prevent rounding off of fastener corners, but the Hazet does have the anti-slip profile.

Milwaukee sent me the updated insider ratchet adapters. Saw a video on these last week, they lock in vs the ones that came with the tool originally and pull out with socket when removing. Filled out the online form with proof of purchase Monday and arrived today. IMG_4047.jpeg

Alright it’s time for another single socket post lol. This time it’s a 1-11/16 socket equivalent of a 43mm. The new (2022 and up) Toyota Tundras, Sequioas and brand new Land Cruisers have a monstrous axle nut that’s no longer 39mm it’s now 43mm. Well the standard equivalent is much easier to find than the metric so I just got the standard one. Not paying tool truck price for it. Went to my favorite auto parts store in the world and got it lol. I’ll order an impact adapter for it as they only had a chrome one and I would prefer that part to be impact. I searched for one of these in 1/2 inch drive but most brands stop at 39mm in 1/2. Guy at the counter was like are you working on a Ram 2500 I said no actually I’m a Toyota mechanic and need this for the new Tundra and Land Cruiser and Sequoia axle nuts. He was amazed and thanked me for the new information.

Also picked up my most used size 3/8 extension really handy size and I wanted one for my cart at work so I can keep the extra in the box. I’ve used my Craftsman one so much the end has wallowed out and it’s hard to find companies that make one this size.

Got tired of dealing with my reconditioned Husqvarna. Maybe the chains just **** that I've been using with the Husqvarna, but sparks and charring and piss poor cutting gets old in a hurry.

Went with a new Echo 590.

IMG_20240825_121219822_HDR.jpg

Was the Husqy oiling properly? I've had sparks like that, when cutting frozen wood and certain very hard woods (don't ask me the species, I'm no arborist, LOL).

Alright it’s time for another single socket post lol.

WITH PANTS! LOL...

Decided to go back to the tool section at AutoZone. The only AutoZone in town that is open till 9pm on Sundays because we had to get some electrical connectors for a project and I had been thinking about these since earlier decided to pick them up. Saves having to use an extension with your 1/4 hex impact. The AutoZone tool section has really come a long way in the last few years. I can think of a lot of places these will come in handy. I wish we had an AutoZone closer to our house lol.
It’s the furthest away besides Napa which is literally less than a block from AutoZone for both locations. I hate going in AutoZone at night because of their locations here are all in the unsafe areas of town. Guy who rang us up remembered us from earlier. He said they are updating their computer equipment and systems tonight as they had a company there unloading a bunch of new computers and technology equipment which I thought was pretty cool.
