Getting some parts together to do some work on my 2000 Tacoma 3.4L. The radiator, hoses, water pump, thermostat, fan clutch, gaskets, belts, valve cover gaskets just anything I can get to with all that removed up front. Rockauto had some great prices on Aisin closeout parts. I’ve been looking for awhile for exactly that flat blade hook style and my cheap self was rewarded. I think it was Faye Hadley used it on her 4runner radiator r&r. I’ve used waterpump pliers before and cracked the neck before so…

Don't forget the fan clutch bracket, it has bearings in it and they do fail

Thanks! The occasional squeal is what started this repair odyssey so big Yep on that bearing getting replaced. With the Radiator out of the way everything up front (and up top) gonna get replaced or checked out thoroughly. The half moon seals, plugs, spark plug tube seals even the radiator bypass pipe gasket, oil cooler seal and gasket since I’ll replace the hoses. Don’t think I’ll do the timing belt as I replaced that at 90k, and only at 145k but all belts and tensioner will r& r.

I haven't posted any of my new stuff in a while. But the second they announced "purple as a color" months ago, I have been waiting for these. I know the Capri ones came out a bit ago, but I wanted a matching set. Had to get a picture of them right out of the box.

NICE!

Are those magnetic?

I picked up a few items at an auction.... First is a set of American made pipe wrenches from 8" all the way to 36" in size..

Pipe Wrenches.jpg

Next is a small 1/5 HP Craftsman grinder set up with wire wheels, and it will stay that way...

Small Grinder.jpg

Last is a small Dremel 1731 disk/belt sander that holds 1" wide belts. It's stout for the small size...

Tidy Britool haul yesterday. Good tackle this country does not want to make any longer.

3/8" Alloy body. A bit stuck worked after a bath in free-it and oil mix. Unmolested, the screws still rounded off underneath.

Two Britool hexagon drive pieces perhaps 1950's early 60's. R/H is 1/2" sq drive to hex.

Bought this USB ScrewDriver with bits and case. PLUS some other bits to throw in the box. HOWEVER the extra bits I purchased DO NOT FIT in the screwdriver. Their BUTTs are too long and do not engage in the locking mechanism. Design failure. The included bits with the screwdriver are perfect but do not include the tiny phillips that I wanted to add to the box. Not sure what I will do to remidy this classic engineering fuckup.

EDIT: I missed that you were referring to a separate item ("extra" bits), thought you were referring to those included in the set with the driver.

I may not have picked up that difference when ordering, either.

I think that is because you bought the US version screwdriver but the Japanese version bits. The JIS bits have a longer tang than the US versions. You can get the Japanese version of the driver on Amazon for about $40.

There is no design failure or engineering fuckup. You bought the wrong extra bits.

The retaining end comes in 3 different lengths.

Some new tools today from my second favorite tool/parts place Napa lol. I broke my 8oz ball peen at work so I needed a replacement one. They are the only parts place that had one. And then some sockets the 14mm is for the house because I ran into a situation where I rounded the heck out of a bolt because all I had was a 12 point 1/2 14mm at the house so Napa to the rescue again as the only place that sells 6 point 1/2 sockets. O’Reilly does sell the deep 1/2 in 6 point but O’Reilly is like my absolute last resort parts place due to rude staff. The 10mm hex is the perfect length for working on Toyota. No extension needed and not too long. So now I have 3 lengths which is awesome. I just hate Napa hours though but their tools are top notch.

**** **** ****... their **** is too big. No biggie... I will adjust their design... I have access to a lathe.
Considering the obesity problem in the US, we should have the larger bit/but, it's logical. ;)

While this is new knowledge to me... I still stand by my "bad design/failure" statement. EVERY BIT in existence is "Usually" 1/4 inch hex. Why couldn't we have a standard on "****" size... "Retainer" size or whatever you want to call it. At a minimum those bits should be available in BOTH varieties.

Got a new socket today. Found on the shield at the bottom of a car I was working on. 10mm always the one you drop. The car had a fresh Advance Auto battery in it so I’m going to assume a worker who installed the battery dropped it. Oh well free is free one of my favorite tool brands haha. IMG_0408.jpeg
I dropped a little 6” crescent wrench working on my wife’s Jeep Liberty. I found it 4 years later when I was replacing the front bumper cover. It was completely rusted and unusable. I was just amazed at how it fell to where it did and rode there for all of those years including several road trips between the U.P. and IL. That Jeep seemed to swallow tools, I lost a 13mm socket while replacing the alternator and never found it.

You sound almost as satisfied as he looks after his drag.

Could have used that when I did front & rear differential fluid service on my F250 last weekend. The plastic handled wood chisel I used survived but was not the ideal tool.
That´s why i bought it prior to the job :) The blade is very thin and should fit easily between the parts.
