@darkzero Damn You... I collect tiny tools... got both ... one of each. Wanted some buckets but I have a collection of metal paint buckets that I have not used yet. Some that size... this place is the most expensive free forum EVER !!!
Glad I was able to help someone spend their money. People have done that to me far too many times also!

MAC 5/8" combination wrench showed up in the mail today as a warranty replacement.

I sent in a CW-20 probably from the 40s or 50s with a broken open end. I didn't expect much, but I requested the USA knuckle saver (vs the Facom or Facom Expert) in my letter and they delivered. That's pretty cool.

I heard that was Phil Niekro's favorite brand of wrench.

2 new arrivals.
-Gedore NR7 27mm
-Jetech 25mm
I've noticed , on Amazon , Gedore prices fluctuate a lot but I grab another piece when pricing comes down to what I deem reasonable so another step closer to completing my NR7 set.
I also saw this Jetech 25mm wrench , priced at $6 i thought I'd grab one as the reviews are mostly postive with people buying them when they need a wrench to cut etc. I was curious as it looked so similar to my ampro wreches so I've added some side by side photos with it next to my Ampro 24mm wrench. As expected, there are differences as far as quality of the machining and finishing go as well as the Jetech having rather ridiculous chamfer and a rather thin contact area on the box end despite it being thicker than the ampro which has very little chamfer which I prefer. I seldom have need for a 25mm so this is a gap filler for one day maybe.

Interesting. Are there situations where it's an advantage (for a user) to have more chamfer?

That is a nice looking reversing lever (switch?)
It's cool because you can push the same direction to change it either way, just slide your thumb up/down.

The legacy 3/8" and 1/2" Cornwell mechanisms are similar but they add a reinforced pivot pin in the middle.

These appeared in the mailbox today:

They cut zip tie tails off flush with no "knife-edge"! For the price of a good beer, I'll never cut myself on one of those again!

And the packaging needs a mention: No degree or martial arts skills required to open it! Simple slide-out card, not even a staple.

Signet 22090 bit ratchet. Ordered from Japan as even with shipping it was cheaper than buying domestically. And it only took like a week to get here!

I truly did not appreciate how tiny this would be. Pictured next to my last purchase, a Proto 1” breaker bar for scale. IMG_2341.jpeg
Oh, haha. I was looking at the breaker bar trying to figure out how that was a bit ratchet and was a little alarmed about the size.

Been awhile since I’ve posted on here. Took advantage of some Amazon prime day deals and got myself a welder since finding a decent used setup has been fruitless. I also got the welding helmet from Northern Tool on sale and I had a gift card.

IMG_1453.jpeg

Had a trip to Menards as well with some rebates to get some items. Try my best to get USA made items there when possible since they do have some good hand tools. The tough built bag was on clearance for 20 bucks before rebate so grabbed that. Also needed some more work socks and a smoke alarm in the house. The socks are actually USA made which is surprising.

IMG_1454.jpeg

One problem with the punches though is I got duplicate 1/8” and not the 3/16” punch. Not sure it’s really worth a return trip.

IMG_1455.jpeg

Then finally a stop at harbor freight because I had a 25% off coupon so I got the Icon mini ratchet set and a manual hose reel.

Picked up a couple Klein WP pliers from Lowe’s.IMG_7756.jpeg

I'm sure you'll like them. I got the 7"s on an impulse buy a few months back, and they're really well-made. I use them a lot as I prefer that jaw style to Channellocks, and they're the only thing that fits in my Hyper Tough tool roll--which is the tool kit that accompanies me when I'm away from my toolbox.

Really curious on how the pliers wrench compares to Knipex.

Looks like you did really well on warranty!

Still have a busted 1970s Mac ratchet I need to send in or drop off at a relative's shop (since it's rare I'm by there first thing Tuesday morning when the truck stops there). It was supposedly made by New Britain, thus making it identical to my Blackhawk 3/8 from the same era. Hopefully, I get something with a higher tooth count.

Part of my Zoro order showed up to work today:
  • Proto 16, 17, 18, 19 stubby combos
  • Proto 11/32" 1/4" drive socket
  • Cleveland 21/64" short flute bit (I'm going to chop the shank to make a stubby)
  • Cleveland 1/8" NPT tap
  • Flex-hone 10mm/320grit

And I grabbed an Irwin M8x1.25 tap and die from Ace Hardware on my lunch

1000011119.jpg

Sheared a steel bleeder in an aluminum Nissin caliper I was rebuilding and failed miserably at extracting it. I'm going to drill it out and re-tap for 1/8 NPT (still waiting on the taper reamer), then install a Wilwood bleeder to match the front calipers. They use a sort of steel bushing to isolate the steel bleeder from the aluminum body:

Flex hone is for the slide pin holes in the caliper bracket, Irwin stuff is an unrelated project.

Got on the threadchecker bandwagon. Tried to do the raised plastic numbers with a paint pen, turned out like ****, don't care enough to redo it. An 18V stapler to a join my Makita club. A 25" HF Icon 1/2" breaker bar to complete an epic stuck bolt 5 hr battle. My old no-name, undersized and overwhelmed bar paid the ultimate price (glad to see it go).

What brand are the thread checkers?

How big of a fastener? Would it make sense to upsize to 3/4 (or 1-inch) drive breaker bar, and add a 4-6+ foot cheater pipe on it?

Whatever it is, it's stuck pretty impressively if you broke the tool before the fastener.

cheapie Chinese "bit set". I could have bought it at Harbor Freight for $1.00 less (even as a non-member!)
(remind me to check their prices on cheap **** like this first before ordering online.)
(okay, if you order FOUR of them, it's less than at Harbor Freight. how many bits do I need?) :headscrat

fabulous Vaughan Novelty Company bottle opener, thanks to @Old Radar

Worth Company (Stevens Point, WI) split-ring pliers.
For over 50 years, I've been using a pocket knife to open those tiny little split rings when tying up lures. Split a few fingernails along the way too. Never even knew these existed until about a week ago!

(I also now know a source for pieces in the event I ever run out of #00 Colorado spoons or tiny red beads... pretty much stocked up on a "lifetime supply" when G.I. Joe's was clearing out their inventory at the Jantzen Beach location in the late 1980s.)

I should have mentioned it was a battle that I won, without a cheater bar, although that was next on the list, holding off as that's how the small one broke! It was a 12 point 7/8"-14 bolt.

I ordered a nice set of Vessel Screwdrivers as "used like new" for a discount.

well, somebody had purchased these and dropped in some Harbor Freight Pittsburgh screwdrivers in their place ($10)

How annoying! Sending them back obviously. Clearly intentional.

I just bought the same security bit set for opening streetlights up at work.
^ That was the only reason I bought that set - I already own a Vessel 33-piece "bit set", but it doesn't include those screwy two-pronged "security" bits, so I figured WTH for $6 bucks, why not? Save me some grief if and when I ever run into such an animal.

...and now you're ready to dismantle bathroom stalls!

That's the only place I've ever seen fasteners like that. Sad that we need those in that (or any) application, of course...
