^ that's a hard act to follow there, but here we go:

a little Ko-Ken 1/4" spinner handle and a Stevens "Perfect" ****** wrench (more in the bicycle wrench thread and groovy spinner thread.

What is that tall that Koni makes it? Those things on the pallet jacks in the back....

I've had koni adjustables on two cars. Love them even if they are a bit dated in design now.

Those are Stertil-KONI lifts, and, of course, Jay Leno has some. They're great for his wide variety of things and stuff (old fire trucks, lonnng Duesenbergs, everything but his 3-wheeled Morgan, I guess.)

Stertil-Koni lifts

Wireless lifts that allow you to link together an odd or even amount of lifts. Really awesome when your lifting up fire engines or anything with more than one drive axle

Ah, very cool. I remember seeing something sort of similar with hydraulic connections-- Mohawk I think made it?

Anyway, cool lift!

I suppose you can consider these tools. My truck blew out a spark plug the other day when pops was going 70 down the interstate lol. So got to fix it up. Threads are done in the middle and bottom but fine at the top part. So since it has to be up and running tomorrow for pops to go to work so went to AutoZone before they closed and got some time sert stuff to fix it up. I miss the 24 hour Advance Auto we used to have when their headquarters were still in my town lol. I really hate working on cars in the dark but we only have 3 running cars right now and can’t miss work. Don’t know what made the plug blow out. Dad always drives it a bit rough but I wouldn’t put blame on that necessarily. And I love my truck too so have to take care of it. I was rather upset when he drove it 60 miles on 3 cylinders instead of having it towed back home. I haven’t had to use a time sert or helicoil in a while so hopefully I get it right.

Also needed more anti seize. It now comes in a white can with silver label. Same stuff I’m sure though. I’ll have to go to Napa to get the copper stuff and order the nickel cause I’m low on all of it because I use it on everything pretty much. And at work they only let me get silver because it’s cheap and the only thing available and I use so much of it lol. I needed more brake grease too for the house but that location didn’t have it on the shelf and told me they wouldn’t sell a full size can to a retail customer and could only sell packets of it. I’m like pass on that I’ll have my parts guy order me some tomorrow at employee price.IMG_0759.jpegIMG_0760.jpegIMG_0761.jpegIMG_0762.jpeg

Blake:
I spent the last half of my apartment-dwelling era working under cover of darkness, to avoid management seeing me. First I used at Mag-Lite AA on a nylon ******** the side of my skull. Once I had a good LED headlamp, that was just the best thing ever!

Dad drove 60 miles on 3 of 4 cylinders... did he unplug the fuel injector? If not, are you considering an oil change?

I could have sworn AutoZone was Roanoke-based, when I wrote that spreadsheet joke a week or two ago, I googled and found a different city for national HQ and wondered why I thought it was Roanoke. So now I know I'm not going.... any crazier.

It’s carbureted. And yeah it used to be Advance Auto that was based out of Roanoke. Their headquarters building still is labeled with Advance Auto Training Center but the building is vacant.

Went to Lowe's to pick up some new Sawzall blades and see if I could find some V-Series tools.

While three were listed in stock on the 6" ratcheting screwdriver, no one could find it. It also didn't have an aisle number assigned. I was skeptical to begin with, as my local Lowe's has NEVER carried V-Series.

However, I found a small Kobalt 1/4 set for $20.

Ratchet is AWESOME and very smooth. I really don't like the spinner handle--it feels terrible in the hand, but this gives me a pretty decent kit to handle small stuff without having to dig through my sockets or grab the 3/8 SBD Craftsman Made in USA kit.

Case holds the ratchet, bits, and most of the smaller sockets a little too tight, but should break in.

Gotta be back out Monday, so I'll do a pickup order Sunday night and see if they can find them then. If not, I'll know then my Lowe's doesn't stock V-Series. That's when I'll probably just order them from the site alongside the rebranded Facom drivers.

At an antique store near the house.

Old Pal PF-4000. I have wanted one for years, as it's similar to what was carried on LA County paramedic units as IV/drug boxes in the '70s, and featured on Emergency!

Was ten bucks.

KIMG1085.JPG

I noticed several dividers had been cut out, and some of the shelves had small melt holes. Thus, the previous owner had used it as a toolbox.

I then proceeded to consolidate some stuff that was stored between a tool roll and a bag.

Currently, the sockets are the Kobalt set bought today. The long compartments should allow room for a couple socket rails; and I then should be able to put the tool roll loaded back up in the bottom.

The guy has been stocking a lot more older diecast cars (and I'm probably the only one buying them), but I already had most of those he had this time.

The Hot Wheels 8-Crate ('55 Ford Wagon) was the only one I wanted, and he threw it in with the box. It's probably one of the few modern Hot Wheels or Matchbox I've bought in worn condition, having been issued in '15. Been wanting this casting for ages.

$50 of knives from Epstein's new R. Murphy knife extravaganza. All the R. Murphy knives are under $10. Might go back and get some more as there were several more styles I didn't get that I might find useful.

Definitely doing the same myself soon.

Some dumb-dumb who did warranty work for Lowe's used an impact on the plug of an Ariens walk-behind I had in for warranty repair due to a faulty axle. It absolutely FUBAR'd the threads; and by the time we got the darn thing back, the warranty was out. Also, my grandmother (who'd bought the thing) had it with Lowe's and how long they took. What sucked is that the "other" Stihl dealer I use was an Ariens dealer ,and they said that since Lowe's sold it, they couldn't touch it. Which I hated, as they had good mechanics.

Thus, looks like some rethreading stuff for spark plugs is in the cards to be able to use it.

"Parkside" 3rd hand for soldering (with ventilator)

I made a DIY holder and ventilator. Well, it is a small fan in a box I made and wired up, but I made it so that I could pack it with activated carbon so the fumes/smell would stick to the charcoal. I imagine you could fill a mesh material with activated charcoal and zip tie it to the fan housing if you wanted to.

edit....
I see they sell something for it.

I had access to a bunch of activated carbon at work that we were going to dispose of, so I took some of it. Didn't need to buy anything so I've never tried any of the commercial products.

A car mechanic closing his shop had a recent auction and I picked up a few very used items.

First off was a bench/cabinet to replace a particle board one in the garage....

Cabinet.jpg

Atop the old cabinet was a "Mac" vise made in the USA. It looks somewhat like a Colombian...

Mac Vise.jpg

For some time the garage has needed a decent trash can, not the current empty five gallon bucket, so here is one....

Trash Can.jpg

For the items avoiding the trash can, here is a Genie Professional 4000 Vacuum....

Vac.jpg

A decent old dial Snap On inch pound torque wrench and case....

Snap On.jpg

Torq Box.jpg

And a decent set of Mac set of spark plug sockets.....

Mac Spark.jpg

Spark 2.jpg

Lastly, a collection of oil filter wrenches to remove oil filters...

Oil Wrenches.jpg

Total cost for everything came in about $300.

I cobbled together a fan to use when I solder, a cooling fan from an old PC, attached a 9 volt battery and switch to the fan case.

How the heck does a spark plug get blown out while driving?!? Put in cross threaded earlier?

In terms of repairing, how do you keep metal shavings out of the cylinder when using a time-sert or heli-coil type repair? I would think the only safe way is to remove the cylinder head and clean it well. A magnet would not pick up aluminum shavings and the oil film will collect shavings if you try to vacuum it out.

I would be worried the shavings would get stuck in the piston rings and do damage to the cylinder surface and/or rings as they grind away.

Pressurize the cylinder though the intake of exhaust and/or liberal grease on the tap, not that difficult.
