I replaced a friend's shattered rear window on their liftgate. I tried using a putty knife and hammer, but it was slow, slow. So I went to HF and paid $7 for this set of chisels (didn't use a coupon). With a hammer and the 2nd largest chisel, it made quick work of removing the window adhesive (had a layer of broken glass embedded). I also picked up a set of safety glasses, as there is no more important rule than to wear these (Norm is right).

I imagine these are really good when sharpened but out of the package they were great.

Got a link? I didn't know Astro had some new ratchets available. All I've seen (previously owned) are the quick release versions.

I think this is the only new one released. Astro has a quick release version but, I prefer no quick release.

I thought these looked interesting so I ordered a set:
Duratech 9 pc metric angle wrench set 011325 02.jpg
"Duratech" 9-piece metric angle-end socket wrench set

Manufactured by
Zhejiang Yiyang Tool Mfg. Co. Ltd., No 68 Guangming Rd., Xiao Nanhai, Longyou, Zhejiang, China 324404 / http://www.ironduketools.com/ / http://www.yiyangtools.com/ / "Duratech" "Ironduke" /

Fit and finish appear to be first rate. The roll-up is exceptionally well designed and made - as though they actually intended for it to be put into use and hold up for a while.

I was thinking of picking up a couple onesie-twosies - just an 8 and a 10 and maybe a 13, until I ran a couple searches and saw the price on the full set.

Couple new tools today.

Picked up the Knipex 8" CoBolt cutters for under $30.

Got the Milwaukee 2880-20 on sale from Home Depot last week. Was debating the 3670 with the Forge battery for $250 versus this for $150, but I really don't think I need a more powerful grinder and given the larger size / weight of the 3670 (5.3lbs versus just 3.1 for the 2880) I think this was the right choice. Just gave it a run this morning and very happy with what I need it for - which is mainly lighter work, I'm not cutting heavy duty plate or iron piping.

I have the full set of Gedore and they work well for setting valve lash on Honda's. Don't use them a ton, but nice quality wrenches!

Fan got a little spa day with some unnecessarily swank PBs that were waiting for their day to shine.
Back in action, but I was shocked by how much dust these accumulate - gotta love the high desert life!

Been off Garage Journal for a little over a week with the weather and the loss of Molly my cat.

Made a trip to Hobo freight which is about an hour away - had to buy something to make the trip worthwhile.

Had an issue with the plow wiring on my Gator and had to borrow some tools from a buddy that has a bodyshop - I really liked his little Snap-On torch so I found one of those on eBay.

Been wanting a new set of wrenches for the pole barn and noticed this morning a 30 piece set of SAE and Metric Milwaukee wrenches was marked down 35% ($90 0ff)at Home Depot. Ordered them and will pick them up next week when they come in.

My second pair of Icon pliers. I thought I already had a pair like this, but when I checked I remembered that it was a total POS one from Proto that I returned because it was so bad. Yes, it was functional and I'm sure no one but a GJ member would think it was bad, but for the $$, it was terrible.

The Icon are very nice. The grips are a bit sticky, and cushy, but IMO it's a perfect blend. I'll cut some nails with them tomorrow and see how they compare to my other HD cutters.

In a few years, Taiwan will take over the mid to higher US consumer plier market, like they have with wrenches, sockets, bit sockets, ratchets.... Meanwhile, over at Channellock everyone is napping

edit:
I know these have been out for months per posts here, but they haven't shown up where I'm at (TN) until a few weeks ago when they showed up in stock. I was in the area today and when I stopped at HF they weren't on the pegs in the plier area. I looked and looked and nope. Then I finally found an employee and he was pretty clueless, but he went in the stock area and said they were in a tote. Thanks, but you have empty hooks in the plier area with no tags, maybe put them out????

It ain't just the high desert.
My wife has gotten quite adept at cleaning those tower fans.
AND, getting them back together in fine working order.
AND, using her own tools (NOT pink) for the process.

Are they 6 point on one end and 12 on the other?

For the longest time (30+ years), I have made due with just a set of SAE deep impact sockets. Have a need now for metric. So, decided to get whole shebang!

I don't care if that is HF or not, that's a well designed and laid out set. Perfect for a shop truck set.
Jumped in on that Napa stripper sale and picked up a case for the suture kits my daughter got me for Christmas. I really wish I went one size larger but maybe I’ll play around with the foam and see if it all fits better

Hey Cam, while I get what the Super Bivvy is, I'd consider getting a pack of emergency (SPACE) blankets for disposable use. You can buy a 4 pack for less than $10 on Amazon or a 10 pack for about $15.

Also looks like your IFAK has a rapid torniquet. I'd suggest getting a CAT torniquet. These are what most LEO's carry and familiar with to deploy.

Thanks I’ll take your advice and ge that. You know the one thing I’m a little bummed out about is that kit used to come with the stapler. Damn it I want one. 😁

I got a story. Yesterday I was showing my kit off to the guys and a sheriff’s captain. Cap says if something ever happens to me and this guys around. Keep him the f away from me. 🤣

I had a stapler at one time When I got cut with a set of trauma shears on an EMS call. Doc gave me it too me after putting one in my knee.

That Capt might have been joking but when SHTF, any med supplies help. I keep a CAT torniquet in the box on the JD 2032R. . . what I use when cutting wood. Hope to never need it.

I needed something a little smaller than the diamond files that I have, so I grabbed this Smith's pocket sharpening rod at Ace Hardware. Works really well on small things like nail clippers. [THAT is the true spirit of Garage Journal: spending $11 on a tool to sharpen $1.50 nail clippers. ]

Mechanix gloves

Had a similar pair and really wanted to like it but they just always felt a bit odd. They got torn quite fast especially at the seams. I don't know why mechanic gloves need so many patches...

Picked up an online order from Menards this morning. I bought 2 of these Lufkin 300' tape measures. They were clearance or on sale for $10-11 bucks plus a $5 rebate each.

KIMG2183.JPG

The Channellocks were bought because I needed to stop the SIL's house on the way home and check the hoses on her washer.
Those tapes are an amazing deal--and just perfect for the informal shooting range!

Sad to see that Lufkin is now part of the Empire.
