Yeah, I've seen them, but their two sizes were both way too long for my sets (which would cost me drawer space - my whole reason for going this route), they cost too much for that they are IMHO, and they don't let me easily grab the one I want from either end. If I wanted the smallest one I'd have to pull them all off. I was able to make all four in just the size I needed, where I can grab from either end, out of stuff I already had in my shop. Took a couple hours of my time but I wasn't exactly racing a clock.

DIY bar stock crowfoot organizers.jpg crowfoot oranization much better.jpg

That was the first time I've ever done oil bluing steel. Really cool how easy it is and how well it worked.

VERY nice job!

Nice foxes !IMG_8730.jpeg

Now those are two words you don't often hear in the same sentence, LOL!

Just observing, BTW. I don't know why that generation gets all the hate. FWIW, I've only owned Ford products for the past few decades. Trucks, not cars, and 90s through 00s.

Sometimes it's the small things...

I wanted a 6" long locking 1/4" extension for my Astro swivels. Ordered the gearwrench version, $12. After it arrived, I spotted this Stahwille for $14 which arrived today. Night and day!

The Gearwrench is bulky and clumsy, the Stahlwhille one is nicely made in Germany and slender. The knurling is nice and the chrome is pretty on the GW, but otherwise a notably inferior extension. Gearwrench is going back...

I find it's the little details like this often what makes tools more enjoyable (and effective) to use!

Yikes, the business end of the Gearwrench looks exceptionally clumsy. I have mixed feelings about knurling.

I spent $4.58 and picked up the step bits today ($18.99 value) and will go back tomorrow for the adapters.
I’ve been buying scissors for $0.99 and getting the free gift.

My stores got about 50 of those left over
Same. I wouldn’t have been so ‘greedy’ if they didn’t have a very healthy stock.

Several in line before me simply went directly up to the register empty handed, bought one of the 79 cent snap blade utility knifes that are always sitting right there and got their freebie item.

I'm at three Icon adapter sets so far... But only because I actually had to go three times already for other stuff!

Hoffmann Group has redesigned their screwdrivers and discontinued the old style. 😕 The remaining inventory was heavily clearanced quite some time ago and moved pretty fast. I've been picking them up as finances allowed which also accumulated points that applied to future orders.
Their recent Memorial Day sale featured no minimum free shipping so I pulled the trigger on the last items I wanted, the Pozidriv screwdrivers.
Happy with the tools, but sad they are NLA in this pattern.
Shown with the rest of the family. Already been using some of these. The rest of my acquisitions: The 2 pc mini screwdriver set (00+ & 2mm-) is the new style handle. These were included for just $1 as a promo with a previous order. I grabbed an extra red handle for the interchangeable set and also picked up the translucent insider hard handle bit driver on sale.

I just spent the weekend 2nd hand tool hunting in Tokyo suburbs. Oops. I didn't see much Nepros or Koken, but every store had their snapon/mactools cabinet:

Snap-on RTD48, missing 1/4" tap.
IMG_0217.jpg

I took a bit of gamble with the torque wrench. It's from 2017, but the anvil is so clean that I think it's barely used.
Hammer is unused.
IMG_0218.jpg

Quite redundant for me since I have the soxrrm set already, but I couldn't resist the price.

Nice finds in Tokyo...remember that is not a Tap that is missing, it's a Thread Chaser.

Buying used in Japan, especially Tokyo, is really minimal risk. If you wander into the use area of MAP Camera, etc. the used condition ratings and details you get are incredible.

These count as tools, right? A bunch of stuff from Eley. Crazy nice, and truly expensive, but a genuine example of "Buy once, cry once" since there are no alternatives I'm aware of that are even close.

I spend a little time this morning comparing the nozzles to our current stuff, and it's pretty crazy how much better the Eley stuff is - the shower nozzle delivers so much volume and a "fluffy" pattern that's just great. The "cleaning" nozzle is a great direct sprayer/fan.

We used to use a bunch of their quick disconnects at my old job. Excellent quality, relable easily & readily available seals (just orings, no proprietary ****), and best of all high flow. I still have a spare new one on my room desk.

The free shipping from KC Tools for Memorial Day was my push over the edge to get the Hazet drain pan I’ve wanted for a while. $18.21 shipped for the pan. It’s a small thing, but that oil filter rest makes it so appealing to me so my filters can be less messy when I toss them out.

I assume you're in the US (KC Tools) -- do you have access to oil filter recycling? My Advance Auto parts store has that, just a steel drum in the back next to the big oil recycling mini dumpster. Also, a drum for antifreeze.

I still drain my filters so there's less mess when I cut them open and take a look, but after that I toss them in a 5 gallon bucket with a lid on it. When the bucket gets full, I take it to the store. There's some oil in the bucket, no big deal.

He really zoomed in! I have those 1/4" Gearwrench extensions and have had no problems with them. (I broke one once, but I was at fault.) The rubbery ring is both grippy and hides the set screw, IIRC. Which also means it keeps the set screw from backing out! My first locking extensions were the 3/8" set from HF, they turned me into a locking extensions fan, but one day I was backing out some spark plugs with some kind of low-strenght power tool and in the strobe of my LED headlight, I saw the tiny Allen set screw escape and go flying. Miraculously, I found it, and resinstalled with low-strength LocTite. (Did the other three, too. Once again, HF often provides a kit that gets you quite close to having a great product.)

And the world needs more knurling! There should be some at both ends!

I never really appreciated knurling until I was trying to spin a Stahlwille extension with a hex bit socket on it and the smooth texture just made it a bear with my sweaty, oily hands. The bummer is most manufacturers have such shallow knurling that it doesn’t really help.

I probably do have places to take them. For my oil I have 3 55 gallon drums. When full (which isnt often) I call a truck that comes and pumps them empty for $100-125.

They pay you or you pay them?
I pay them. I am under the impression that some places might take it free or it may be worth something to them for shop heaters or something? I know there is some value in it but I have no idea who would actually give me anything for it. I am not extremely prejudice about what other things I let go into those drums, and I am honest about that when I have it picked up, so that may effect its value.

Most auto parts stores take it for free. At my Advance Auto, they know me, and I walk back to the back unescorted and pour my 14 quart pan/container into their minidumpster. I do motor oil, ATF, PS fluid, brake fluid.

Oh for sure. I used to get rid of that way. For some years I owned a shop and that was when I got the 55 gallon drums, as the volume was naturally too much to rebottle and personally transport. It has been over a decade since then, but I live on a farm and have plenty of space for the drums, so I kept them and maintained the same disposal habit for the fluid. Only now it tends to take 3-4 years to fill them up, and I call the tanker truck that comes and pumps them empty.

^ Washington State oil retailers are required by State Law to take used oil. You will not find tanks behind Ace Hardware, Home Depot, or your local grocery store, but almost every auto parts store has a tank in back.
As noted in the above post by @M635_Guy - people pour all kinds of **** into them.

My local chain auto parts stores do too but I stopped going to them, too much hassle. Either the employees are too busy to help you or the store manager gives me ****. Also always asks me to fill out my info on their sign in sheet.

The latter I get but I used store my used oil in 5 gal race gas or methanol containers. For yrs was never a problem until recently. Store manager would tell they can't take the oil cause it may have residual fuel in it & may burn down the place. My containers haven't had fuel in them for more than at least decade. Any excuse not to spend energy to take my oil. I also used to be able to go in the back & dump the oil myself but not anymore. It's a liability & I could potentially steal something. Ok whatever.

Now I just put the used oil back into the new oil containers, then wait till Saturday & take it to my local waste facility. Luckily one is not far from me, I just drive up, don't even have to get out of my vehicle, they grab my neatly bagged or boxed stuff from the bed of my truck, & I'm on my way in no time.

What happens to these mixed material waste products? Do the still drain the tank on New Jersey highways?
When I worked at a shop (25 yrs ago), oils were ok to combine but not coolant. When the truck came to pick up the oil, when siphoning he could tell when there was coolant cause the oil would settle on top & he could hear the change in suction. No idea how coolant got in our oil tank. Haha

I actually did research before putting ATF, PS, and brake fluid in there!

As for gas cans as carrying devices, yeah, idiots ruin it for the rest of us.

Different densities! See my Underground Lair thread about a month and a half ago, some sleep deprived fool (COUGH COUGH) poured a full gallon of windshield washer fluid into the Econoline's engine oil filler pipe.

I did an oil change right then and there (yay Fumoto drain valve) in the time it took me to go back into Advance Auto and buy oil and a drain container, it had sorted itself out in the oil pan. Blue stuff came out first, motor oil second.

^ California.

... and yes, people pour any and all kinds of **** into those tanks: gasoline, oil, ATF, power steering fluid, 90W gear oil, anti-freeze, kerosene, paint thinner, and anything else they want to get rid of.

Which is really stupid, because if it's a petroleum product (or anti-freeze) all you have to do is drive to the transfer station and drop it off.

No idea how they deal with it.

Yep, meant to say the oil settled on top. Come to think of it, I don't remember what we did with our coolant before we got the second tank for coolant. lol

I got this back in 1988. Non-ratcheting. Came with torx bits.

When I went in the Navy I left all my tools with my Dad.

He passed away, we bought the estate, retired and moved back home.

Been going through “his” tools lately, mostly looking for my old Snap-On stuff.

I haven’t seen or touched this bit driver in 37 years!

IMG_7572.jpeg
I was looking for a #3 phillips while there wasn't one in it it will move into a better place in the house, it's got a nice feel.
I build a full set of bits, I sure I have anything needed and it will replace a lot in the junk drawer, thanks for reminding me.

I bought a Makita blower that I really like. I wanted a longer nozzle and a dust bag, but they were over $35, or I could buy this knock off that uses a Makita battery and comes with a bunch of accessories. Score:). Unfortunately only the short nozzle is compatible with the Makita, because it can latch on the OD of the nozzle. Everything else attached on the ID of the accessory and wasn’t comparable with the Makita. Another money saving attempt that just led to having more tools. The knock off works ok, but I don’t know about longevity. I might throw it in my car. Should I buy the stuff that fits on the Makita now? lol.

Harbor Freight "Free Icon Adapter Weekend" silliness.

On the positive side, for some reason it never occurred to me to store my adapters in a single chain, but seems to work well!

Why I ended up in a HF store three times since Friday and when I might ever need three complete sets of ratchet adapters is a different story...
