By any chance could you share a link to that blogspot? I'd like to start educating myself on bodywork and hammers specifically.

That was more than 10 years ago, I have since added a few more!

Road trip today to pick up a truck for a customer, hit a couple pawn shops along the way. Found these 3 Proto Professional wrenches. The 2” was marked $39.99, the 2-3/16 was marked $139.99, and the 2-3/8 was marked $59.99 (yes, those are numbers are correct, didn’t make any sense to me either). Asked the guy at the counter what kind of deal he’d make and after frantically pecking on his computer keyboard he said how about $150 out the door? I said how about this $100 bill out the door? He looked at me kind of funny, looked at his computer, looked back at me and said sure, I don’t want them anyway. So, here they are:

No, I’ll never use them. But I have several big wrenches and I figure I’ll hang them on the wall just for conversation pieces if I ever have a shop.
I have a 1-1/2 proto that I use to tighten the bolts on my bulkhead.

These days my largest wrenches are 1-1/2 in and 36 mm. And that is my Proto spline ratcheting wrench set.

Without looking, my standard combination wrenches from wright tool I think only goes to 1-1/4 inches and 32 mm.

These days if it's bigger than that I'll probably have someone else do it

Went a little ratchet crazy recently. Picked up three I had been interested in. Koken Z 3/8" Flex Short; Koken Z 1/4" Flex Long; and a Tekton 1/4" 6 inch flex ratchet. My first Kokens and they are very nice. The back drag is low like everyone says and every socket I've tried on them fits very solidly with little or no wobble. The Tekton is very nice, I like the detents for the flex but the socket fit on the anvil is very loose similar to the 3/8" Folding Tekton I have. A silly concern as it is very solid and well priced otherwise.

What are the anvil across flat dimensions for both brands? I have multiple Tekton ratchets and no issues with even long extensions falling off. I prefer the Gearwrench 90T over Tekton though

Trip to menards and hf, yielded a few tools. Main purpose of trip was 7/16 bolts to replace m11's on my small tilt trailer. Was strolling to checkout when the pry bars jumped into my buggy. They are a 9$ spree so even if they fail miserably not much involved.

A bit of a different tool haul for me... Estate sale down the street from my house.
Wilton bullet-style vise, 2.5" jaws, swivel base. A steal at $12.

I think the only reason it wasn't long gone is that it was on the garage floor underneath a big sand blasting cabinet, I just saw a bit of blue poking out, got down and investigated.... Score!!!

I think these are made in the Czech Republic by York for Wilton. York is actually the original first manufacturer of the bullet vise design way back from before WW2.

Williams Supercombo wrench set 3/8" - 1"

Got this exact same set. Very beefy feel and cool to own here in Europe where you really don't see that sort of stuff :)

Halder 35mm Supercraft. White nylon tips.

Ordered from Home Depot website for local pickup and arrived 3-4 days earlier than quoted.

This will be used to realign an aluminum standoff that often gets slightly warped out of position by a heavy weld directly beneath it. I was previously using a cut off section of oak baseboard 😂 (it was what was within reach the first time I had to do it ~4-5 years ago, so it was assigned as the tool for the job). Nice to have a real tool for it now.

My Halder Supercraft came from the Boeing Surplus Store 25 years ago. Great little hammer!

I think that most of the tools--welders, plasma cutter, corded power tools (fabrication grade PC and IR), air tools, etc--that were here at the TG shop when I started came from Boeing Surplus. One of our founders lived in Seattle back in the early '90s and seems to have spent all his spare time shopping there.

Got a few small but mighty items today lol. I lost my only decent #2 phillips screwdriver on a job last week. After 3 days if looking when I was back there working again, I finally gave in and replaced it. It came down to a choice between Wiha and PB Swiss, since I don't like the Wera handles at all, or the fact that most of them are made in the Czech Republic rather than Germany. Ultimately, I went with PB for their warranty and because I find their handles the most comfortable. A little thinner than some other brands in my experience, but I wear XL gloves and strongly prefer how they feel.
I finally got myself a trim square after doing a job where I was wishing I had something smaller than my trusty 7" Speed Square half the time and I have to admit, I'm glad I did. It's a really feature rich little tool for around the shop and in my tool bag. I especially like the offset base on it.
And last but certainly not least, a Klein magnetic stud finder. I've used other brands in the past and strongly refer them to the digital type, so when I saw this one on sale I decided to give it a shot. It works extremely well. No more second guessing my crappy digital one. And as a small bonus, if you keep it facing outward in an outside pocket of your tool bag/pouch, it creates a handy little magnetic patch for bits and fasteners when you're in a rush.20251015_200446.jpg

Picked up an old set of Mastercraft Maximum stubby wrenches for cheap. My old Westward set never had a 15, 16 and 18 mm. This also has a 7, 8 and 22 mm. It also matches my wrench sets I have and I kinda like the old stamping vs the current ones. They are rebranded Gearwrench.

Facom Sheath Drift Punch 7.9mm & 9.9mm (249.G8 & 249.G10)
Long and with some hand comfort/protection without being cumbersome. The sheaths are soft and grippy, and the red collar at the top is flat on one side - presumably for access and to prevent rolling away.

Rennsteig Parallel Pin Punch XXL 12mm & 16mm (451 312 0 & 451 316 0)
The hand guards are the same 57mm square across the whole 8-16mm range, which I thought could be a bit bulky for the smaller sizes in some situations - hence the Facoms. Good to have when hitting these with a big hammer though. Didn't see much need for the inbetween 14mm at this end of the size spectrum.

Where do you find pins that large?
